Suno partners with WMG

In 2026, Suno will make several changes to the platform, including launching new, more advanced and licensed models. When the new models launch in 2026, the current models will be deprecated.

Seems like we get the worse of both worlds: licensed AI slop. Now labels can print money by letting you generate soulless Michael Jackson simulacra that they ultimately own/control and you get to pay for that privilege. I don’t care tbh. I did not use Suno or Udio, because I want more specialized tools that can integrate into a music production workflow.

Hopefully open source devs and researchers make more cool stuff, while DAW and plugin developers have the balls to integrate it into their software for those music makers that are open to using AI. AI features like midi generation, sample generation, patch/preset generation and similar. Those are the tools that will really revolutionize music.

I bet antis are gonna celebrate this, because they are too stupid to realize that the licensed AI slop is going to be worse (less experimental, more derivative), more expensive (you are not just paying for compute now, you are also paying for the license to the oligopoly of record labels) and pushed harder into the mainstream (because they have the means to do it, unlike small ai artists, labs and companies like Suno).

That’s what the IP holding corpos wanted, they did not want AI to go away (like the antis wish), they wanted to control it and profit from it, even if it does not really make sense (training is highly transformative and generating music by AI should be no different than sampling or using photoshop, it’s ultimately the responsability of the user to use the tools without infringing copyright or commiting palgiarism).

  • And you get the part whereat the ability to play a guitar no longer matters because the industry has effectively replaced that?

Those railing so fervently against the average AI user, thinking that the industry was going to save them, literally just relegated themselves to the dustbin of musical history.

And we'll get new, unaffiliated open-source brands to compensate. Ironically, we were all willing to play side-by-side with traditionalists. Now they've gone ahead and outmoded themselves. Oops! lol.

That only matters if you are motivated by external factors. People who have the virtue of integrity create art for its own sake, for therapy or even to glorify God. Only people with a materialistic hierarchy of value are concerned about such things. Human validation is not of much value either since it is not given on the basis of what is true or just but on the basis of what flatters the ego of others. That’s why popular music is mediocre and someone like yngwie Malmsteen is not popular. It’s why axl rose said he sing November rain badly on purpose -so ppl can sing along bc mediocrity sells. True talent and skill makes people jealous

    "to glorify God"

Oh, I get you, boo. Jesus Wept, for sure!

  • Licensed models is bs

So it's basically gonna be, here's a SNOOP DOGG model to make snoop dogg songs

It will basically just be a way to promote their artists.

The future will be self trained models. Soon enough people will start training their own models, possibly running like a torrent site

Is that with perplexity? Nice chart lol

  • This is a lot of speculation to extrapolate from just two sentences from the announcement. At this point I can't tell if it's the same person copy-pasting these fearmongering "think pieces", or lots of people repeating the same tired points.

what part don't you understand? I can clarify why I'm making these points.

I understand perfectly. You took two sentences from the official announcement and proceeded to conjure up four paragraphs and two graphics about what you personally think it means.

We don't know what's going to happen, because WMG and Suno haven't even figured it out themselves. Their official announcements on this partnership don't even agree on whether we'll have a daily or monthly download limit. We're likely months away from knowing anything for certain, and premature speculative assertions like this just confuse the issue more.

I understood what you said. Don’t let the upvote farmers get to you. They are very sad human beings

  • I disagree. One of the benefits is no more deluge of ai music slop. Downloads will be limited. This is a win.

  • This isn’t going to happen like this because the user base would evaporate. Use common sense people, economics and market forces drive this in reality. Music labels are dead they just don’t know it yet.
