Second, keep in mind that it's a fairly small group full of disgruntled dudes with the express focus on "discussing" fucking mobile gacha games. Discussing is in quotations because 99% of the posts are hating on some other group.
This is a particular subset of male weeaboo that is lonely as fuck and is either borderline or full on incel. They long for a mythical bygone era when anime was not as popular. This can be pre covid era, or pre netflix era or something else, entirely depending on when they started consuming anime media or they just feel like wömyn are invading their boys only club and want them gone. Especially western "woke" women. Basically it's part of the culture wars.
Another thing is that shippers and especially queer shippers, tend to be pretty aggressive in pushing their preferred ships. So imagine this type of guy goes on twitter to look at porn or whatever, and then he sees someone else gushing about lesbian pairing of his wives he potentially spent hundreds of dollars on and he feels cucked and it ruins the fantasy. This is an...artistic depiction of Tagfer, a character who is a part of one of the later game "syndicates" (a group of people who represent a faction in the lore). All but one in that syndicate is an "uplifted" animal for reasons that are much more spoiler-heavy than my light warning (there's also a fish and a bird).

i want to play warframe, but i tried last time and about like 3 missions in, suddenly i had twenty missions in my log and i couldn't tell which one was from when and what was happening in the story.
and then i googled it, and then i got distracted on reddit and never went back to actually playing the game.
you essentially play the star map. when you get all planets unlocked you can do other missions.
i ran into "need to grind to get x object" to open object you "need to grind y object" to play those grind missions you "need to grind z object".
don't mind grinding, but that was just way too much. plus i couldn't do the steel path without aid and no one was on starter missions there to help. so no progression :/
They've separated the quests into 3 categories now: Main Quest, Warframe Quests, and Side Quests. Makes parsing the quests a hell of a lot easier.
If I had to guess, when you say you got like 3 missions in, you're probably talking about completing Vor's Prize? Gangly, ugly guy trying to hijack your warframe, and you working to stop that from happening? If you were to log in tomorrow, you'd get a new quest called The Teacher that they added this year that teaches you modding and introduces an important character. After that, you would want to work your way towards venus for Vox Solaris.
As others mention, there are a lot of different types of missions. The most basic and generic is just going around the star chart, no real story to them, just different game modes and enemy types at increasing level. Then there's side quests which usually unlock features/side content to do. Then, warframe quests where you're getting a bit of lore about a specific frame, and get the crafting blueprint at the end. And finally, main quests, which are the real meat on the bones of warframe. If you like (or really WANT to like, it does genuinely pop the fuck off eventually but has a slow start) the story in warframe, you generally want to work your way through the star chart in the general direction of uranus and then onward. Once you get to uranus, there's a prelude quest called Natah that starts the "current" warframe storyline, and once you start the quest that follows, it's all gas from there. Before Natah, Vox Solaris and Heart of Deimos (both act 1 main quests you'll have to complete to progress to act 2's natah) tease some of their better writing as well.
If you do decide to play again, use the 50 plat they start you with on warframe slots.
I have 3k hours and just came back after a 5 year break because I heard good things about the recent update (which were correct). Don't bother with the subreddit. There are some good posts, but they are best engaged with via finding a them in a Google search

That's something where subconcious biases and hypocrisy definitely come out too. The Uriel post, while is frankly just as bad as the Marie and Oraxia ones in my opinion, is still an outlier not because of the character’s gender or a conceived notion of bias, but really because his entire ballsack is sticking out. And guess what? The Oraxia one is doing the same exact pose minus any genitalia, and people are majorly unhappy about it, because the ISSUE ISN’T GENDER, it’s how far the art goes over the imaginary line of what’s taboo. It’s just that the Uriel one was the first one to go over it proper by showing scrotum, so it got hit with the most backlash.
Call me crazy, but I think that rather than it being that a outstandingly LGBT positive community is actually insanely homophobic, its instead that one gender’s artwork keeps jumping over the line and getting in trouble over it, while another’s keeps barely tiptoeing it and getting away with it, with it only just now finally seeing some backlash for taking a step over.
I honestly think at least a large portion if not most are telling the truth when they say they will raise an issue with either, but it only reaches critical mass sufficient to cause drama when the people who only notice when it's men get involved.

Later in the story you come across Protoframes. They are people who were only partially turned into Warframes. They still have their personalities, memories, autonomy, sanity, etc. An adult character you unlock called the Drifter can chat with all of them via an old PC, and you can date one of the original six and/or one of the latest three, if you wish. And if you make the right choices.
oh, was this the thing from last year where the devs ended up roasting their players' lack of game via patch note? not gonna lie, this patch note alone is why Warframe has been on my radar for a while now
For some context: every one of the datable NPCs is basically taken wholesale from a list of stock stereotypes. You know, greatest hits like the stoic lone wolf and socially awkward nerd. And then you interact with them via a dating sim style chat interface so they might say something like "You don't understand me" and your responses might be "that's rough" or "I don't even understand myself" or even "then tell me about it" and two of the three responses will probably send the NPC on a tirade about how you're an asshole while the third will have them say they like you, they love you, and then that they want to fuck. It's neither complex nor difficult to navigate.
However, a lot of the playerbase had no interest in doing it but felt like they were forced to because you literally have to in order to finish the story (and now, with the newest quest, you again literally have to in order to access an entire vendor). So people who don't care about dating the NPCs are just going to hammer through it without caring too much and any negative feedback about the whole system has just been resoundingly ignored.
Nah, hold up.
1: Feedback on the system been acknowledged, taken into consideration, and in some cases implemented. One that comes to mind is people who wanted to Reset either the Hex or the Rountable, but not both. Or not having the Reset option pop up once a month as soon as you boot up the old PC.
2: The KIM messaging was largely unnecessary. You could raise chemistry with the Hex by doing Bounties with each member once a day, and/or sending them gifts via Credits. The system even gave you an idea of what gifts each character would like. The only necessary bits were once per rank group chats that you literally could not fuck up or miss. And you didn't even need to max the Syndicate for the real ending to 1999.
With the Devil's Triad, the only thing locked behind the dating system is a furniture store. You want the new T. Artifacts, Honoria, Arcanes, etc? Just talk to Marie or Roath.
3: Lastly. The people going up on Reddit & the Forum with stories of their fumbles were actively trying to get close to the characters, and could not(for the most part) understand where and how they fucked up. It wasn't the devs roasting players who didn't care, some of the players genuinely sucked at some of the most basic rules of conversation. Your not forced into using Kim, either for the hex or for the triade.
You can access the vendors and do all quests without touching it, it's just extra lore and the romance stuff if you want to engage.
The reason for that patch note is from people who actively engaged with the system and we're trying to romance characters but locked themselves out of the romance by picking the wrong options. Leading to a lot of discussions (and some complaining) online about the dialogue options.
Unless they changed it, you straight up could not finish the 1999 storyline without getting at least rank 3 with everyone, and as of right now you still can not access Lyon's shop without getting to rank 3 with Marie.
You can get to liked with everyone in the hex via bounties. You don't have to interact with the KIM to do any of the hex stuff.
Lyons decorations are the only thing locked behind the KIM. Forgot about them, as it's a handful decorations not anything important.
So you've gone from "you don't have to interact with it" to "you do but it's not important". Except you left out the mandatory rank up conversations as well. Bravo.
There is no manditory rank up conversations in the KIM for the hex, it's do bounties get the linked cutscene and then you can do the final quest.
And for Lyon, yea his shops not important. I doubt anyone whose not interested in the system will be annoyed that they are missing out on a handful of decorations.
So yea you don't have to interact with it if you want to progress the game and get access to anything game play relevant. All frames, weapons, faction and quest progress can be done without interacting with the KIM system.

After joining Reddit, I realized any animated game/movies/video have an active gooner community. Still mute new ones that pop up on popular on the regular.
It’s always had a bit of a gooner scene because a lot of people found the warframes strangely alluring. It really ramped up though when the new creative lead took over and she leaned into it a lot more than the previous.

Okay, so serious post contributing to the discussion.
Marie's(F) crotch shot was far more popular than not. There's always some people who don't want NSFW art on the main sub in general, and they commented as such there, but otherwise it was really quiet.
Fast forward a day or two, another artist draws a nutsack shot of Uriel(M). This was notably less popular, and displeasure wasn't just in the comments, there were multiple topics made about it.
About twelve hours after that, another NSFW art goes up, this time of Oraxia(F) doing the Jack O pose. Almost as popular as Marie's, similar response.
So it very much seems that it's lewd dudes specifically that set the sub off.
Two other noteworthy aspects of this.
1) It is repeatedly being said that the art shouldn't be on the main sub "because there's a dedicated sub for that". But there's dedicated subs for basically everything that gets discussed in Warframe. There's a sub for trading, for fashion, for lore. No one calls for these topics to be restricted from the main sub. It clearly is not about there being a dedicated sub for a topic, they don't want to see NSFW specifically(and mostly, NSFW of dudes).
2) There are literally account settings you can flick on to prevent yourself from randomly seeing NSFW stuff anywhere on the site. These people refuse to use them, and instead want the Warframe sub to change it's rules to accommodate them.
It's all so fucking dumb.
I agree with you on the part about the disparate reactions between male/female lewds; it def reads to me as though the female lewds are acceptable because they're attractive – the nsfw isn't the problem, it's that it's a MAN that's the issue for most people (not all ofc, many ppl have been voicing concerns against both posts). I don't want to see the sexualized art for personal reasons but at least if it's going to stay on the sub, mods should do something about the disproportionate hate male lewdposts get.
However, I feel like I should say that the whole 'use the nsfw filter' doesn't really work here because nsfw isn't just sexual content, especially in a game like Waframe. The nsfw filter is kinda a catch all for things that aren't acceptable for all audiences, which is a lot of things in Warframe. We have quests/lore discussing miscarriage, child abuse, drug usage, domestic violence/coercion & blackmail, PTSD and more. Some or all of these things may at times be flaired nsfw depending on the context/content, heck I've even seen some art with more explicit gore/violence be tagged nsfw. Not saying this in itself is a reason to ban the lewd posts but just that from my perspective, the idea that the filter solves everything is a bit silly.
You can have NSFW topics available while having any images blurred by default. I do believe that very easily solves the problem.

Kind of a flip on what's going on with Warframe. The mods of the Genshin Impact sub had been the ones playing favorites, allowing a lot of suggestive art of female characters but bringing the hammer down on the same for males. This came to a head when they did the same to official artwork of Tighnari(a short fox dude) and particularly Tartaglia(a tall human). A portion of the playerbase who actually like guys hit a boiling point. Worth noting that initially, GI had a more even spread of male & female characters.
So the fans who had enough involved a bunch of artists. When the mods deleted official artwork of Tartaglia with his shirt off(after a work out or something), they proceeded to flood the sub in custom art work of that. My favorite was dude floating in the air, mask on, shirt off, wreathed in electricity while holding a wooden NSFW sign like a sword. While slowly approaching a blank figure with "mods" written on it's face that was running for dear life.
If I recall correctly the mods eventually caved.
The game tends to have a provocative appearance, so it’s natural for people to reflect it. It’s weird to have on the official subreddit, and gets old after a while to see what’s obviously just hornybait, but it’s understandable to see people do it within the boundaries of what’s acceptable. I’d personally define said boundaries as more or less what’d you actually see in-game, so a character in a revealing outfit in a certain pose would arguably be fine so long as it’s something present in-game, since the game also has to abide by regulations of its own that’d get reflected onto its forums. The problems THEN arise from posts that would go over the boundaries, and it just so happens that the two major/relevant controversial ones involve male characters, with appearances that should be unanimously seen as unacceptable (aka, two dudes fucking and one getting pregnant, and another display his entire asscheeks and exposed nutsack in your face).
Frankly, I think what people are ignoring is how posts involving male characters in the SAME STANDARD as the typical female gooner posts, shockingly DON’T get this much uproar. Surprisingly, male posts that have the same caliber of sexualization as female posts (i.e. more tame poses and no visible genitalia or bulges), also receive the same general reception. Gonna sound hella stupid rq, but I’ve seen my fair share of thirst trap Rhinos or Umbras that don’t have their dicks out get the same reception as ones of Ember or Wisp doing similar things. If the central problem was a bias against homosexual content, I’d argue that these basic posts would also be seeing their fair share of uproar, but the fact that they’re seen as acceptable while the egregiously NSFW ones aren’t should prove that it isn’t just a matter of gender preference.
As someone who's been playing this game since before it launched, it's genuinely exhausting how hard the new creative direction is turning towards just straight up fetish fodder as hard as it can. Anyone who thinks it's weird or offputting is slowly being chased out of the community under accusations of being "prudish" or "homophobic" to think it's odd for the game to just suddenly start putting this hard of a focus on romance and skins designed to jerk off to. The lead team hasn't been subtle about it, but the fanbase likes to simultaneously deny the change while celebrating it.
If SRD is how you derive entertainment, then I assure you that you are, in fact, the joke.

This is a cycle in that sub. People complain about gooner art, one piece of art causes an uproar, people complain for a couple days, people go back to posting gooner art.
People are going to try and make it a homophobia thing but all the top comments for the Oraxia post are complaints. I haven't personally seen the Uriel art but they're saying the dudes nutsuck was visible. I don't recall a female frame getting drawn with her pussy visible and it not causing complaints.
The problem is that the only gooner posts that get literal post wars and endless out of comment bitching are the male gooner slop.

I don't understand why NSFW art can't be contained to its own subreddit that already exists. I have very little sexual attraction, and these pictures are unfathomably ugly to me. All I see is women contorted into unnatural shapes, twisted around and inflated in odd parts like balloon animals.
