That discussion made me think how weird that Holly is blonde, I forgot Karen isn't a natural blonde so they have nobody blonde in their family except Holly?
And I have a blonde former boss who went the other way, along with her daughter: Their hair was brown as a baby but lightened to blonde by the time they were toddlers.
my wife and i both have dark brown hair, but both my boys are SUPER BLONDE despite them being 10 and 13. My wife was blonde at birth for like 5-8 years I think she said, and I think my hair was brown by 3-4 years old.
Been dark blonde my whole life. Everyone else in my family has been dark brown their whole lives, except my grandfather who had strawberry blonde hair.
Yep husband was blonde as baby now very dark brown. I'm blonde. 3 kids all had very blonde hair with blue eyes as kids. Now my kids are 22, 20 and 19. Out of the 3 only my 20 yr old has the blonde hair still, the other two are dark brown. All have amazing blue eyes still
Yeah for sure but Holly is like 10-12 (I know apparently she should be 7 but I refuse to believe that's the case considering the actress and the others in her class like Derek). At this age in general, you're pretty close to your final hair color I think.
I was super blonde as a kid but got darker later on but I still have the same color than I had around 10-12.
my hair was so blonde it was almost white until I was 6, then it just became a normal bright blonde but has slowly darkened since high school. im almost mid 20s now and the past 3 years my hair has quickly started turning brown. its basically brown with blonde highlights now.
genetics are weird and your body is constantly changing. whats even crazier to me is that my hair has always been pin straight but now its very wavy, but i think once I chop off a bunch of hair curls like my moms will come in
Blonde hair is recessive so you can have multiple generations in a row with no presentation.
My niece has platinum hair and ice blue eyes. Her dad is a ginger and her mom and brother both have brown hair and eyes. I was blonde until high school and two people in my family have brown hair and eyes and two have green eyes and brown hair.
Yeah but do you have any blonde people in your family? Blonde hair is a recessive trait so you likely have the gene for it.
Also depends on your daughter age, when very young, children can be blonde and then become much darker later on (but around Holly age, you kind of get the final hair color)
Hair pigment is highly polygenic and can have a recessive-like inheritance pattern. Not uncommon for two people with dark hair to have a lighter hair child.
We also know that Karen is prone to extramarital temptations, so who knows.
We are all assuming the S1 hair colour of Karen is her natural colour, but it might as well be that she was blonde naturally and later before the start of S1 dyed her hair brown, it may have been vice versa as well. Tbh I think blonde is her natural hair colour, that explains Holly's hair color too
Yeah I was SUPER light blonde as a kid but my hair has turned to a light brunette as I've gotten older. My kid has really blonde hair now, but it probably looks strange to people who didn't see my hair when I was her age.Â
A lot of people commented on the parent part, but genetics donât stop at your parents. Iâm a redhead and my oldest daughterâs dad has black hair. She got platinum blonde like her grandmother.
As others have said itâs common for kids to start out blonde than have it grow in darker as they get older. Additionally itâs a recessive trait so if both parents carry it the trait can present in a child without it presenting in either parent.
Yeah, I admit she is stunning in every season, but I do kind of like her season one look is the best. You can kind of tell in the later seasons that the writers were deliberately pushing her as the Fox, and don't get me wrong, she is glamorous.
But she does have such a nice understated look here.
At times the show gos really hard with the 80s nostalgia. I think it's meant to be "this is what you remember suburban moms who kept up with fashion looking like" moreso than what people would have actually dressed like.
I feel like the reason why they did it was to show her becoming less and less like "herself", if that makes sense? That's how I took it at least. Maybe I'm just reading too far into it though.
You have a point. We know Karen is bored with her life. So I can imagine her throwing herself into being glamorous, just to reassure her that she still has the opportunity to have fun at some point.
Seeing her development has been staggering. Based on her appearance and drinking you can tell sheâs in crisis mode but no oneâs there for her like sheâs been there for everyone else. She needs help.
I feel this. As a working mom with a 5 year old working on finishing my dissertation...I have a ton of people around me. See me every day....and yet they don't see me begging and screaming for help. The breakfast scene kills me. A house full of people, she cooks alone. Then cleans up alone. Then the drinking. Girl is going through it and doesn't even see the whole picture until it is attacking her.
Like for me: Iâm the 2nd oldest of 5 kids and my Mom was the quintessential parental all star growing up. My dad did the âI did my part by being the sole money maker so I get to sit in my recliner until dinner/bed timeâ bit. I donât think I ever saw him do a dish or vacuum the living room, or even a load of laundry my entire childhood. Karen Wheeler in S1 reminds me of my mom in the 80s but my Mom in the late 90s definitely has the same vibe Karen Wheeler did in S5 (with exception to drinking, my was a huge alcoholic which was the reason for their split.) So it just fucks me up seeing it on a Tv show. Ya feel me? lol
But then as a child of the 80s, I remember thats how so many dads were. Every time I'd go to my one friend's house, her dad was sitting in the same recliner in the living room, smoking his weird cigars and watching golf. Golf or the news. If that man was at home, his ass was parked in that chair. I would knock on their door and while that man was 5 steps from the door, his wife would come from whatever part of the house she was in to answer it.
He was in High School with Steve in season 2, so he's like 17 or 18 in season 3, and she's like 43?
It's definitely inappropriate, and a little weird that the reason we're presented with for her not going through with it was something akin to her not wanting to do that to her family. Not her realizing it would be wrong to sleep with a child less than half her age.
This post is cracking me up, because itâs showing how the viewers have grown up. If you were a teen when watching season 1, Karen would have felt like a âmomâ to you and not registered as particularly attractive, but now that those kids are in their mid to late 20âs, they are, correctly realizing what a beauty she is.
I read your post, thought about it for a sec, realized i had absolutely NO idea who she could've possibly played in the Sopranos......omg, OF COURSE. Wow.
Just as a warning if you havenât seen the show before, she is in the final season and I would avoid searching her character beforehand due to spoilers.
I love how her makeup and hair tell her story. Here you can see the more natural style carrying over from the 70s, but also a very understated look, perfect for the young, wealthy housewife she is. From S2 onwards her style gets more daring every season and her color lighter, as you can see the cracks of her being alone and bored.
I have an aunt who went through the same unfortunate hair metamorphosis. Not full on blonde, but she went from pretty long brown hair like this photo to permed frizzy fried and highlighted hair that only aged her. The hair trends were so so very bad. My hair as a kid was even worse.
I love how grounded S1 is. I donât know if theyâre just emulating the early 80s vibes, but it felt more noir-ish and adult. The later seasons were too quirky and dizzying, not that itâs bad.
Well, to be honest her bangs, her blonde highlights and her makeup feel too heavy, like they're making her look way older than she is. She still looks gorgeous, but not as much as in S1. I just love her more natural look.
Iâm a fully gay male and currently married to a man but if she offered to run away with me, Iâd do it in a heartbeat and my husband would probably ask to come too. She has ultra mega rizz or whatever the kids are calling it these days.
I realized recently that Cara Buono played Kelli Moltasanti in The Sopranos lol I was doing a rewatch and was like wait she looks sooo familiar who is that
My God the way y'all in the comments are hyping her up is gross. That actress literally said in an interview that she is "sad" that the Billy and k*ren thing didn't go further, and "wishes it could have been much more", she supports predatory relationship and grooming. She's a notorious big fan of that ship. She often talks about how "amazing" it would have been to see a steamy (you get what I mean) scene between a TEENAGER and A 40 YEAR OLD on TV. My God it's disgusting.Â
I feel like I'm going crazy seeing all these comments fawning over someone who EXPLICTLY romanticizes adults predatory behavior towards teens.Â
Billy was 17. K*ren was in her mid 40.
HOW DOESN'T THIS MAKE PEOPLE'S SKIN CRAWL.
"B-but Billy initiated this ! He likes the attention !"Â
NEWSFLASH : Teenagers sexualizing themselves is NOT an invitation for adults to prey on them.
IT. IS. NOT. AN. INVITATION.
Not to mention that hypersexual behavior amongst teens is oftentimes a result of complex trauma (not necessarily sexual in itself but can be), which, in the case of Billy's character, is canon (his father being an mysogynist and a child abuser). Anyone with a basic understanding of human psychology can see that Billy's hypersexual behavior is definitely a trauma coping mechanism considering how unheathy and maladaptive it is.
K*ren in the show is OBJECTIVELY a preadator. There is no denying that. Stalking him to get information about his work schedule at the pool to inform her creepy friends about it so that they can sexualize this teen like he's nothing more than a piece of meat. I don't give a shit that Billy "enjoyed the attention" : HE'S A TEEN, HE DOESN'T KNOW BETTER. IT'S NOT AN INVITATION.
K*ren is the ADULT. SHE SHOULD KNOW BETTER. She's essentialy taking advantage of his emotional vulnerability, very twisted coping mechanisms and broken boundaries for her own sexual gratification.
Imagine if it were, let's say, TED WHEELER who happened to want to sleep with HEATHER just because she's "flirty". Y'all would be fucking appalled. But when the roles are reversed, when the predator is a female and the victim is male, no one apparently sees a problem with that.Â
No one apparently sees a problem with the actress, cara buono, saying multiple times on TV that she whishes "it developped into something more" and being a big fan of this creepy power imbalance.
The way male victims, especially male victims of female perpetrators are treated by the general consensus/public opinion is absolutely awful.
It's like we're in 2007 again when gossip girls depicted a predatory relationship between a male teacher and his underage girl student on TV and most people were rooting for them to end up together.Â
My God. Stop fawning over a person who thinks preying on teens or barely fresh adults is "quirky" and "female sexual liberation".
This is the reason why Dacre Montgomery, the actor who played Billy, is always VERY VISIBLY uncomfortable around her. It's the reason why he seems putt off when those stupid journalists bring up that "ship" as they call it during interviews while giggling and ask him when the audience will see an actual sex scene with the two characters.
It's a fucking insult to :
- victims of sexual violence, grooming, predatory behavior
- and actual feminism. Yeah 'cause I've seen weirdos trying to justify it by saying that "it's female empowerment" and that criticizing it means you're a mysogynist. These idiots don't even realise that they're insulting feminism by equating it to allowing female perpetrators to do as they please. Since when is feminism the same as objectification, oversexualization, sexualization of teens ?Â
EDIT : Oh wow look at reddit downvoting me because I'm against pedocriminals and grooming.
Yeah, you're right. It's actually awful how people defend her after flirting and basically attempting to have sex with a minor just because "It was empowering for her, she was doing it to cope with being a housewife in the 80's". And if Ted did it with Heather, everyone would've been cancelling both the character and the actor, it's actually ridiculous. But I didn't know she made such comments about having more scenes with Billy, it's disgusting, even if she made it as a "lighthearted joke" or something. I really wish people would be able to take grooming seriously on both genders.
Yeah my comment wasn't directed at people who didn't know about her stances obviously !!!
Thank you for seeing right through that crap đ It's honestly refreshing.
My comment was directed at those who actually "ship" (so gross) the two characters, agree with the actress, or even go as far as BLAMING BILLY, the VICTIM, for "corrupting her" as if she isn't a 40 year old grown ass woman who knows exactly what she's doing. Â
Her pretending to be shocked that he asked her out on a date makes my skin crawl because it's EXACTLY what she wanted considering that she stalked him to get information about his work schedule, purposefully put on swimsuits and makeup SPECIFICALLY to attract his attention, was ALWAYS taking different extremely revealing poses to seduce him at the pool.Â
Like who the f-ck does she think she is fooling. Oh wait, I know who : a big chunk of the audience. The fact that many people genuinely fell for her act of her pretending to be an innocent, clueless woman being the target of a TEEN's "corruption" is absolutely wild.
There are actual people out there, like SO, SO, SO MANY people, who hate on that TEENAGER for basically exuding traumatic hypersexual behavior that harms him and being preyed upon by grown adults.
The victim blaming is insane in certain spaces.
I think that the reason why they feel confortable doing that is because of their hatred for Billy's character. Which isn't even a valid justification for their stances for two main reasons :Â
1) NO TEENAGER deserves being sexually violated in any way, shape or form. It doesn't matter if they have anger issues, if they're a sweet cinamon roll or whatnot.Â
2) To the weirdos who still can't understand this previous point, just take Billy out of the equation if he bothers you that much. Now WHAT ABOUT KREN, HUH ? How does you hating on his chatacter in this scenario somehow absolves kren from taking any responsibility for her behavior ? Yeah 'cause here's the thing : it could have been ANYONE in Billy's place. It could have been ANY other male teenager and kren would have still gone for it.
In fact, Kren does NOT know about Billy's anger issues and aggressiveness. She doesn't know about any of this. Yet the very second she meets him for the first time she flirts with him. She flirts with this man knowing FULL WELL that he's a TEENAGER since she directly asked him if he came to see Nancy, implying she knows he's in high school.
So to the weirdos saying that Billy "deserved" being groomed because you don't like his character : touch some f-cking grass.Â
I feel like just because they don't like Billy somehow everything that happened to him is seen as okay, or well deserved. Like what the fuck. As if the adults who have hurt him, abused him and taken advantage of him (like those creepy moms at the pool) even know about said aggressiveness that makes the audience dislike him.
Anyways, thank you for being one of the very rare and sensible ones in this audience. Genuinely thank you đ¤
You don't know what you're talking about kid. It's literally a criminal offense in many countries you do know that right ?Â
It's called statutory rape.Â
I'm gonna turn this question around : would you, as a futur parent, let a 40 year old prey on your 16 year old kid ?
Would you find it okay that your 16 year old daughter is in a "relationship" with a 40 year old man ?
If you feel angry at the idea of such a a thing happening to your hypothetical child, then it also applies to you too.
SERIOUSLY, think about this : WOULD YOU, ever feel attracted to a literal teen when you'll be in your 40 ? If the idea alone grosses you out, then you already understand why k*ren wanting to sleep with a teen is utterly disgusting.
So for God's sake stop trying to sound more "mature" than your age, you don't know what you're talking about.
Such people are creeps, predators that are trying to take advantage of peole put in a vulnerable position : wether that's age gaps, financial situation, mental health issues (like trauma induced hypersexual behavior) and like to shift the blame on victims by saying that they're "flirty" or "enjoying this".
I genuinely hope for your safety that no such predator ever approaches you. If they ever do : RUN AWAY. SERIOUSLY. RUN AWAY.
Don't feel "flattered" that they're "paying attention" to you. For your own well being, STAY AWAY FROM THEM.
It's not "flattering", it's not "hot", it's not "having luck". It's called being groomed, sexually exploited, sexually violated, preyed upon. Doesn't matter if you don't realise it. It still is wrong and bad for you.
Just like when some people do drugs and they don't immediately feel the consequences of their addiction yet : them being in denial, delusionally thinking they're not experiencing any bad sides to this use doesn't mean the practice is healthy.Â
Same for when teens engage in sexual behavior with adults :
Just because some of these victims don't realise the toll it takes on their mental health during the time this takes place doesn't mean it's not absolutely wrong. Just because they may have felt flattered because of the "attention" doesn't mean it's not fucked up.
Again, think about this : you would not let a grown ass 40 year old prey on your 16 year old kid. You yourself can't imagine yourself doing that to a teen when you'll be an adult. So understand that you deserve the exact same amount of respect, care and protection.

She looks good every season but I feel season 1 Karen was best. The brunette suits her.
The blonde was clearly the height of fashion & blonde bombshells in media etc espcially for stay at home moms.
That discussion made me think how weird that Holly is blonde, I forgot Karen isn't a natural blonde so they have nobody blonde in their family except Holly?
Sometimes blonde slowly turns browns over time! But lol who knows tbh they probably didnt even think of that
I was born super blonde and slowly am now dark brown. It happens to a lot of us.
Platinum blonde as a kid. Dark brown as an adult. Can confirm.
Can confirm, pale blonde bright blue eyes child. Brown haired blue/green eyes as an adult (although my hair is dyed red)
wait your eyes changed đď¸đď¸?
makes sense i had a friend who had grey* eyes and they turned hazel over the years, no idea how they look now, we were kids.
Yeah, itâs really weird they were bright pale blue and now theyâre more blue/green with some brown around my pupil
Towheads sound off?
And I have a blonde former boss who went the other way, along with her daughter: Their hair was brown as a baby but lightened to blonde by the time they were toddlers.
yup, my aunt had straight, fine blonde hair as a kid, which turned dark, thick and curly in her teens lol
my wife and i both have dark brown hair, but both my boys are SUPER BLONDE despite them being 10 and 13. My wife was blonde at birth for like 5-8 years I think she said, and I think my hair was brown by 3-4 years old.

Genetics are weird.

Also depends on your daughter age, when very young, children can be blonde and then become much darker later on (but around Holly age, you kind of get the final hair color)
itâs a recessive trait, so it can show up for only one child if both parents have the allele for blonde hair
you always inherit your mom"s current hairstyle at conception
Sims genetics
I have black hair and my wife has brown hair and our daughter has blonde hair and blue eyes.
I was the only blonde, blue eyed kid in my fam. Like Elle Woods blond. Then puberty hit and it turned dark brown and curly đ
My parents are brunettes, myself and all of my siblings had periods of blonde in childhood, and out of 4, 1 never grew out of it.
Myself and my partner have dark brown/black hair and one of our kids is blonde. It happens
My dad grew up blond but if you seen him now, youâd never guess. Completely brown now
My brother and sister were both blonde as children and both became brunettes in adulthood. It happens more often than you'd think!

My wifeâs a brunette, Iâm a red head, my kids blonde.
Could also be the genes of grandparents
Brunette really softens features.
Itâs color theory. Some people are washed out with blonde. Not everybody can be blonde or brunette!
Recessive alleles
STRONGLY agree
yeah, they absolutely nerfed her hair in season 4 :c
Yeah, I admit she is stunning in every season, but I do kind of like her season one look is the best. You can kind of tell in the later seasons that the writers were deliberately pushing her as the Fox, and don't get me wrong, she is glamorous.
But she does have such a nice understated look here.
I think it makes her feel more like a cartoon character than an authentic 80âs beauty in later seasons though.
I wouldn't go quite that far, but yeah, it does feel less authentic.
I couldnât really figure out how to put my thoughts into words. Thatâs the closest I could get lol
No I understand what you mean.
The 80s-ness in general on this show has become more cartoony and distorted with every season.
Yeah, it kind of has.
At times the show gos really hard with the 80s nostalgia. I think it's meant to be "this is what you remember suburban moms who kept up with fashion looking like" moreso than what people would have actually dressed like.

Nancyâs mom has got it going on
Nancy, can't you see, you're just not the girl for me
This is now the arc I will retcon for Steve if it doesnât actually happen.
I'll take Wheelington
Nancy got it too to be honest. You clearly believe they are from the same family.
Seeing her development has been staggering. Based on her appearance and drinking you can tell sheâs in crisis mode but no oneâs there for her like sheâs been there for everyone else. She needs help.

Oh bro, she is the hottest in the whole show.
[removed]
I concur
I guess thats why Max's bro wanted to smash
Incredibly uncomfortable subplot there.
Iâm stunned by Cara Buono in every season.
It may have been creepy from her side of the equation but I 100% understand Billyâs side of the equation cause he-llo Mrs. Wheeler.
Ironically season 3 is my favorite look for her overall though season 4 is a close second.
She's stunning in all seasons imo
This post is cracking me up, because itâs showing how the viewers have grown up. If you were a teen when watching season 1, Karen would have felt like a âmomâ to you and not registered as particularly attractive, but now that those kids are in their mid to late 20âs, they are, correctly realizing what a beauty she is.
She has the meats
lol, so much lol
She's beautiful
It's been so long that I don't even remember her looking like this, I may need to do a rewatch
Rewatching Sopranos and forget she was in it, she looks so young compared to ST itâs crazy
I read your post, thought about it for a sec, realized i had absolutely NO idea who she could've possibly played in the Sopranos......omg, OF COURSE. Wow.
Sheâs also in Mad Men, Dr. Faye
Ha same. I only recognized her from Mad Men.
Lol, my mom has the sopranos DVD, im gonna watch it just for her
Just as a warning if you havenât seen the show before, she is in the final season and I would avoid searching her character beforehand due to spoilers.
Definitely, huge spoilers
Google her with black hair. Next level stunning.
Everyoneâs hair except Steveâs got worse with time.
I love how her makeup and hair tell her story. Here you can see the more natural style carrying over from the 70s, but also a very understated look, perfect for the young, wealthy housewife she is. I loved her a lot in Mad Men. Been a fan since then.
I feel like this look in particular really pulls off the looks of the 70s slowly wearing off.
So was Billy
She's like a reverse Lannister lol, Brunette to blonde
Iâm stunned anytime sheâs on screen
I love how grounded S1 is. I donât know if theyâre just emulating the early 80s vibes, but it felt more noir-ish and adult. The later seasons were too quirky and dizzying, not that itâs bad.
Further proof that Stranger Things really is about the deterioration of Karen's mental state (and marriage) from Season 1 onward.
Imagine a version of Hawkins from her POV throughout all this. Would be fascinating to watch!
Ooh I would love this
Nancy's mom has got it goin' on
Mrs. Wheeler at the pool.
đĽľđĽ°
Rewatching this show, she has become more of a fan favourite of mine for sure.
Just bury the lusting after a 16/17 year old subplot deep into the memory hole and never think about it again
She was The Hulkâs mom in 2003. I remember seeing those brown eyes and just đĽ°
Billy knew what's up
She hot
Iâm stunned by her in every season tbh, sheâs so gorgeous!
She was Christopher's wife in Sopranos. Had no idea until I rewatched it.
she looks a bit like lana del rey, anyone else see the resemblance?
It took me a minute to realize why she looks familiar and itâs because I literally know a lady (married w/ kids) who looks exactly like this
You donât think she is gorgeous in S2?
Well, to be honest her bangs, her blonde highlights and her makeup feel too heavy, like they're making her look way older than she is. She still looks gorgeous, but not as much as in S1. I just love her more natural look.
What about S3?
She's 54!! I couldn't believe it.
Yeah, sheâs a keeper!
She looks like an older version of Millie Bobby Brown the more I look at her
it took a while before i realised that it was the same character between Season 1 and 2
She reminds me of Jimmy Neutrons mom in season 1 đ
Check out of Person of Interest. She plays an assassin in season 4 and her character is famously part of this meme: https://www.reddit.com/r/PersonOfInterest/comments/193fcsf/didnt_realize_this_meme_came_from_person_of/
Iâm a fully gay male and currently married to a man but if she offered to run away with me, Iâd do it in a heartbeat and my husband would probably ask to come too. She has ultra mega rizz or whatever the kids are calling it these days.
God she is such a gorgeous woman
Straight gorgeous
Mrsssssss. Wheeeelllllleeeeerrrrrrrrrr!
That what I was thinking too !!!
Kanojo no oppai de bongo o tatakitai đ
Itâs crazy how different she looks in the Sopranos and Mad Men.
She is perfect.
She's beautiful. I had a crush on her in Mad Men.
Is this not Jill from Th Hunting Wives
Forgive me, but I have no clue who this is
She plays Karen Wheeler
Oh wow. I didn't recognize her lmao
She is a beautiful woman and I prefer the brunette
I realized recently that Cara Buono played Kelli Moltasanti in The Sopranos lol I was doing a rewatch and was like wait she looks sooo familiar who is that
I was surprised they called out her age as 46. That's not what 46 year olds looked like in the 80s I remember.
Ted Wheeler is badder đ¤¤
She knows it. đ
It's a fucking insult to : - victims of sexual violence, grooming, predatory behavior - and actual feminism.
I'm 16 and I would happily fuck her.
Same for when teens engage in sexual behavior with adults : Just because some of these victims don't realise the toll it takes on their mental health during the time this takes place doesn't mean it's not absolutely wrong.
Genuinely hope you're safe.
I understood everything you said but I've always had a passion for older people. They have an incomparable charm.
I am a woman. I'm a 16-year-old woman and I've been in relationships with people much older than me since I was 12.
Answering your question. I wouldn't be with someone younger than me. I've always liked older people.
Yea, we all are because so little happened in the first release. This season is garbage.
