Was looking at cosmography tab because I wanted to make a new sector, but I can’t see a button for it. Is there something I need to do specifically to make a sector?
Go to the planet you want to be the sector capital, go to the Management tab. You'll see a box with "Frontier Sector" in it and a couple icons to the left and right. Click the icon with the plus sign in it, and a new sector will be created centered on that planet.
You pick a planet as a sectorial capital, open the second page of the planetary screen, and click "Create a sector" button on the right.
The planet has to be 5+ jumps away from another capital.

Any tips for creating sectors?
Yeh its not very intuitive. You make a planet a sector capital from the planet page. Then you add systems to the sector in the Cosmology page.

Forgot to mention a sector capital needs to be atleast 4 jumps away from other sector capitals.

I'm scared to ask, but... What is a sector..?
I don’t know what it does but I think it’s just grouping planets so a governor can rule over them. You can find them is cosmography
