Tonight I had the house to myself. I made a steak dinner and had college football on in the background.
I had a few beers and put on pretzel logic.
Steely dan has been my most listened ro artist for a few years not but I never understood the hype around pretzel logic. It’s always in the top 5 Dan albums for old heads but it never clicked for me.
Tonight it finally did.
A little bit tipsy I found myself entranced by the entire album. It probably sounds the most like other contemporary rock music from that time but the whole album flows as one cohesive piece of music.
I finally get it.
“I stepped up on the platform; the Man gave me the news. He said you must be joking Son, where did you get those shoes?” My favorite lyric of all time.
🎵 Where did you get those shoo-oo-oos… 🎵
Me too! Hilarious!
Night by Night is my jam
Easily the #1 steely dan workout song
Skunk really crushed on that track.
Irrepressible horns, killer solos, tight AF
It wasn’t initially one of my favorites either, OP. But those days are gone forever. Over a long time ago. Oh yeah.
Any Major Dude Will Tell You it's a good one.
It became one of my favorites the night the Doobie Brothers closed with it live.
Crazy man

Yes - that’s it! I saw them June 23 of that year in Ft Wayne, Indiana. Thanks for allowing me to relive that moment!
Just a terrific link thank you
What you said, plus it's one of my favorite album covers of all time. 🥨
It’s a pretty funny story, too. They didn’t have the pretzel guy’s permission to take a photo of him, but they found out he didn’t have a permit for the pretzel stand, so it was a case of ”what’s he gonna do?”
Yep, just hope they paid him something for his appearance.
Worst cover art out of the nine by the way.
I agree. I'll die on this hill wit ya.
False.
It also took some time for Prezel Logic to grow on me but now it's one of my favorites.
Pedal steel and Wurlitzer
It was the first SD album I ever listened to, and still my favorite.
Rikki was the first song I heard at 14yo. Was in Sears stereo section when I heard it. 50 years later I've love every album and nearly every song. Remains one of my favorite artists.
We must be relatively the same age because I can say the same thing! I was 14 as well. (Born 1960)
And I was in bed on a very warm summer evening (sneaking staying up late) listening to a transistor radio on A.M. station when you used to be able to call them up and request songs….
Man That song really takes me back. Good times.
Born in July of 1959. Funny thing is a did not listen to 2AN until this year, and now I can't stop. A fantastic album to add to my listening.
Haha!! July 1960 for me! 😁
Logically. Now smoke a J and dive really deep into it. Next thing, you’ll be thinking you’re Donald Fagen himself. 😎
Yes, also one of my favorites!
It’s a fine album!
welcome
Same with me - loved the first two tracks from the beginning - but the rest took a lot longer until they suddenly clicked. It is a really great album
I’ve always loved the whole album.
I love all of their first five especially countdown to ecstasy
I don’t “get” that one yet either. I’ll just keep giving it a shot
Few small beers
