  • Thank you for submitting to r/SteamScams.

If you have been scammed or believe you may have been scammed check this guide to see if you can find the solution there.

Steam will never contact you on Discord or any third party text communication site.

If you suspect someone is attempting to scam you check this guide but remember to be careful even if you do not find the answer you are looking for there.

Important: If you receive comments or PMs offering to recover your lost account, items, or money or pointing you to someone who will do it for you do not engage with them as they are recovery scams.

  • You downloaded a session grabber, maybe more. Backup anything important onto a USB and then wipe your PC. Then change the passwords to all your emails, then change your passwords for stuff like Steam/Discord and anything important.

NEVER EVER click random links unless you are 100% certain about it, and if you do accidentally click a link, close the tab immediately. Do not click ANYTHING on the website and absolutely do not sign in ESPECIALLY if you are signed out of a website you should be signed into on the browser like Steam.

If someone sends you a link to some random game and says "Hey check this out" then just Google the game, don't click on the link.

Jesus... my rpcs3 file is so big but i guess i have to reset whole pc to the ground whit it

You can maybe try to scan with malwarebytes/kasperksy/hitmanpro and see if they detect it, but this is the kind of thing I wouldnt take chances with personally

The proplem is too that im not home and my home pc is at other city so i can at weekend only access it

  • Your account got locked for your own protection. Open a ticket with Steam support, it takes time.

How? Likely fell for a phishing scam, entered your Steam credentials into a convincingly looking, but very fake, Steam login window.

Look at the steam login history to find out when they initially logged into your account.

Then check your browser history what sites you have visited at that day around that time. You might have visited a site with a fake steam login where you entered your credentials. Obviously, you did not realize it was sketchy, but thought it was all legitimate.

Might be you voted for an fan art item or an e-sport team, claimed a gift card or free game, added a friend or joined a team, wanted to partake in a game test or an early access, to get a fancy steam profile wallpaper, to verify your account for competitive play or some anti cheat software. The possibility are endless.

If you encounter a Steam login window, be wary.

    • If you enlarge it, it must be its own browser tab.
    • Check the URL at the very top of your browser. (the login window might have a fake address bar)
    • If on Computer, check if the window is not inside another website (move it around)
    • If you are already logged into the Steam website it should show your avatar.
    • If you use your browsers password manager, it will not automatically fill in the details in a fake window, only in a real one.
    • If paranoid use inspect element to see where it is actually loaded from.

If only one of those checks fails, do not risk it. This also applies to other login prompts you suddenly encounter. People have lost access to bank accounts, Instagram, YouTube Channel, Paypal, Apple cloud, and more by this way. If in doubt always use your trusted bookmarks and login through the regular way.

  • Message your account from a new one, guarantee you the person who ends up buying it got it off G2A
