So I’m a big fan of ancient history and extraterrestrials, so one day I was looking for an Atlantis show, and I found Stargate Atlantis. I was like, ā€œI don’t want to waste my time,ā€ but I decided to give it a chance, and I watched one episode. And after that I couldn’t stop watching it, and I loved it, so after that. I saw Stargate SG-1 under Atlantis, and I was like, ā€œI don’t want to watch it and not like it,ā€ so eventually I said screw it and gave it a chance, and I ended up liking it better than Stargate Atlantis lol. So after watching those two, I had to watch Stargate Universe, and the first time I watched it, I didn’t understand it, so I didn’t like it, but after doing some research on it, I watched it a second time, and I ended up liking it. Now I’m glad to be a part of the Stargate family along with all of you.

  • For me: Someone on EBay or Fb Marketplace was selling a collection of DVDs marked as like ā€œAssorted Stargate DVDsā€ for Ā£18 and I thought it looked like a good deal, so bought it on a whim.

It’s every episode of SG-1 and Atlantis. I’m still making my way through, but I am loving it. I find SG-1 so easy to watch

Facts I plan on buying all of the episodes of SG-1,SGA, and SGU on my iPhone so I can watch them wheneveršŸ”„I don’t know why they would sell them but lol you got a dealšŸ¤

Gotta assume it was an inherited collection from someone dying or an ex leaving it behind, since they didn’t know what they had…

It’s the DVDs from the Stargate Magazine collection, so I could see from the photograph that it had a LOT of them but I didn’t imagine it would be them all

  • For me, I caught a few random episodes of SG-1 during its original run and liked it. Didn’t watch start to finish until 2021, when I was on medical leave with a broken leg. Watching the various series was a bright spot during a difficult time.

I’m glad it got you through it familyšŸ¤šŸ«”

  • My dad used to watch it on the Sci-fi Channel. I’d occasionally stay up and watch it with him. Eventually dad lost interest but I sure didn’t. I watched the whole series while I was in high school, Atlantis included.

    When did you watch universe?

    They probably didn't.

When you see comments like that you can tell right away if someone is a Stargate fan or not.

It's unfortunate. Hang around this sub long enough and you'll notice the same comments from Universe haters all the time.

  • Me and Mac were there from day one airing on tv. I think I only watched the original film later.

Yea it’s crazy how we just stumbled upon one of the greatest shows ever lolšŸ˜‚

  • I remember a couple of Dvd’s of Sg1 @ my Aunt’s place, my eye locked at seeing T’ealc on the cover. After that i saw it randomly on SyFy and i rememberd T’ealc, so i watche one episode after the other.. i was imediatley sold on the show. I downloaded every season both Sg1 & Atlantis. Even got the Atlantis set this year on Dvd from my GF šŸ˜„. I saw SGU and liked it also, it’s just such a shame they cancelled it before the real story took off.

I can only hope that the new show and plans get worked out and hopefully it has the same witty humor and action en plottwist like the OG Shows.. that my wish for 2026 šŸ˜…šŸŽ‰

Definitely one of the greatest shows ever

  • One of us One of us One of us

For me, it was the movie. When the series came I was like, MUST WATCH!

The movies were goodšŸ”„šŸ¤I can’t wait for this new series

The original movie, cause I’m old! Kurt Russel and James spader

Edit: I do love the SG1 movies. I’m on pins and needles for the series!

I didn’t think it was going to happen but out of nowhere they said we’re getting a new series bro I’m still so happy

  • I was super into scifi stuff and Egyptian stuff when I was a kid so when I first saw a trailer for Stargate at age 10-11 it was like the universe had aligned just for me. I remember seeing that they'd made a TV series but we didn't have Showtime so it wasn't until the series came to the Scifi Channel that I was able to get into it.

  • I wish people were more open about Stargate in general. Doesn't need to compete with the likes of Star Wars and Star Trek. But I never see anyone get excited or post things about Stargate. Or even just wearing a shirt.

The funny thing is. Stargate fans are in the closet. You would never know someone is a Stargate fan until someone quotes it or lets it slip. Eg. Yeah, sure, you betcha! Or Indeed (with a low voice)

  • I was looking for a DVD set of the show my exhusband liked, but couldn’t remember the name. (This was in 2003 or so.) I settled on Stargate when it was really Farscape, but the series quickly became a family favorite.

  • I got into it because I saw the movie in the theater when it came out. I'm old. It came out right after I met my wife (probably by days, maybe by a couple weeks). It is very possible that it is the last movie I saw in a theater alone.

I wanted to watch SG-1 from the start, but it was quite a while before it actually played on a channel I had access to, and even then, erratically. The first episode I saw was "Hathor". I caught a few episodes, and then ordered the DVDs when season one was released in 2001. That first season finale cliffhanger annoyed me greatly, while I waited for a year for the next set.

I didn't have regular access at broadcast until around season six or seven. From there I watched it as it aired.

  • I started watching SG:1 when I was 11 and it was first airing, and I’m so so so happy it’s still finding new fans ā˜ŗļø. Comtrya!

  • I caught reruns of S7 on the Fox Affiliate in about 2005. They ran them every Saturday and Sunday at 12pm with Faracape after it.

When I started working a 2nd shift, I was able to catch it at 12am when I got home.

Then I rented the first disk of season 1, then the 2nd disk. Then bought the seasons as I finished them.

  • It's cool to hear how different people got into the series. The franchise has gone on long enough that not everyone started at the same time or like it for the same reasons.

I'm one of those "originals" who had watched the movie and when the show got announced were already hooked before it started.

Weirdly enough i still most appreciate the movie. I always found the subtle silliness of SG-1 a bit out there compared to reality. I did grow to like it... up to a point*. I felt the same way when Atlantis started and was comparing it to SG-1 and I too eventually grew to like it since there was no alternative. When SGU got announced i was very excited hoping to get the "realistically darker" Stargate i always wanted, just like the movie. Needless to say that also disappointed at first. It sure was darker but concentrated on things i do not care about when watching Sci-Fi TV show or a movie. Eventually that grew out of the "teenage sex n emotion" phase and was actually growing into something i could really like... then it got cancelled.

*I know i get downvoted to hell but i really hated Vala in SG1. She just did not make sense in the military environment which should be a bit more serious than the entire series anyway but that character pushed it over the edge for me. I like Claudia overall and she was awesome in Farscape but Vala character just did not fit into SG1 in my opinion. There were other episodes i disliked as well but not concentrated against one particular character. I disliked 200 and Window of opportunity too for being annoying fillers at a time where i had to wait whole week to see a new episode! Yes i'm that different, yet still a fan of the franchise!

  • How i got into Stargate ...

I was hooked from time the promos from the original Stargate movie came out in the 90's. I went to see that it at the cinema and loved it.

So when SG1 was being promoted i knew i was going to love that too. And my God it was the best first season of a show Id ever seen. I love every season, even if the Ori got a bit much in the end.

But SGA was another level of obsession when it came out. I had to go to sleep every night watching it for years lol. I was utterly devastated how that show ended.

SGU took a bit of time to acquire the taste for, but once I got past S01E06 I got right into it. Again, I was frustrated at how that show ended too. Enough not to buy it on Blueray.

I have both SG1 and SGA boxsets, but still watch on streaming to support the actors and creators.

So pleased to see Stargate gaining traction again after so long.

  • Sg-1 was on primetime on French television and on rerun all year right as I came back from school

  • How do you feel about the new series that’s coming out?
