I could be wrong, but the first episode being twice as long as a normal episode strongly suggests to me that episodes will release weekly rather than in batches. An extra long first episode in other anime is usually done to hook viewers early and get to a more exciting cliffhanger so that they tune in next week. I don’t see the point of making the first episode the length of two episodes of Netflix is just going to release episodes 1 and 2 at the same time anyway.

You get introduced to the 2 central protagonists, learn the stakes and motivation of the various racers, provide the horse race action in Jojo style, and the episode can end on a nice cliffhanger when they announce the winner of the 1st stage of the race.
As far as introduction episode goes, it's a pretty good pick.

Well, I think this is mostly referring to the arc that's literally called Stage 1, since there aren't any other arcs with names of other stages besides Stage 1, so I think it's going to be a special episode animating all the chapters of this short arc.

Every single facet of my worries about the animation, designs and overall aesthetic has been plunged into the damn sink. It looks way too fucking good 😭 We all should've had more faith in the part 5 team to deliver.
And again this is the "hard" part of the series with all the most horses and people on screen. Can't wait to see how they cook on the scenes with fewer characters where they can focus their resources.
A lot of the horse running scenes in this trailer are CG, it looks really damn good. The level of detail they have for each individual horse (for the main cast) is seriously impressive. CG for the wide shots and they hand draw certain parts when they need a horse to have a unique facial expression.

But it is very likely they're gonna change some stuff , likely the ordering of certain scenes , which I'm all for cause I'm not too attached to the start of SBR.

and the voice acting is absolutely perfect
