I don't hate him so much as I find him insufferable. I generally believe people who are constantly "on" like he is are extremely performative and exhausting to be around irl. People who like and write poetry don't just wax poetic all the time unless they're masking hella hard. In fairness, part of why that irritates me so much is because it reminds me of how I once was.
Performative is exactly how he feels. I’m polite to him, but I definitely don’t have patience to engage with him and feed his ego about whatever artsy thing he’s on today.
Leah is a far better example of a grounded, realistic artsy person. She talks about it a fair amount, and she often talks about her environment in a way that an artist would, but more like "this is a major part of me" rather than "this is literally my identity"

Not saying it is malicious bi erasure, but to me it seems like CA doesn't realize bisexuality is possible.
I mean, at least the characters don't actually have set sexualities (which feels like a bisexual thing to do but maybe I just like BG3 a bit too much)
Yep, love Stardew and CA is super cool, but it's obvious he's not part of the community based on the representation we have:
• All rivals are of the opposite gender even when some same gender alternatives seem more compatible;
• All non marriage candidates who are dating are with someone of the opposite gender;
• You can only choose either being a woman or a man;
• There's no mention or references to anything LGBTQ+ unless you are playing an LGBTQ+ character and decide to date someone of the same gender as you.
I do think what CA did he did with care as there are differences in the characters you are dating based on your gender, but he seems more like an ally than a member.

I work in inpatient mental health care and crisis services. One of the most surprising things is that about 10-15% of our clients are actively triggered by red headed people, like to the point that we often have to remove red headed staff from the floor entirely bc they can't calm down. Red headed staff are also more likely to be targeted for assaultive behavior from clients. It's very weird and I have no clue what's going on there, but the point is, turns out lots of people really don't like redheads

Now obviously those tales aren’t true, redheads aren’t werewolves and they don’t see fairies. However, their prevalence combined with your observations suggests that having a strongly negative response to red hair is a more universal phenomenon.
Is it as simple as “this person looks different” and that triggers some sort of tribalistic response? That’s a common enough scenario, humans not liking each other because they see them as “The Other”
Or is the color red specifically triggering? The color red is associated with aggression, and orange is one of the least liked colors.

I think Jodi's is just because of her portrait's color palette. I mean, look at Maru's portrait compared to her overworld sprite!
Yeah, I always thought jodi had more of a kind of strawberry blond type thing going on, esp considering her sprite
But portraits and sprites have a lot of inconsistencies, some of them seem to come from CA altering their portrait appearance but forgetting their sprite. Maru previously had a different hair color and didn't use glasses, Harvey didn't have a beard, Emily's hair was a bob and all of it is reflected in their sprites.
I don't take Penny to be related, but the other three would make sense as sisters growing up in that town.

When I first started playing I legitimately did have a hard time distinguishing between Robin and Leah, and sometimes Penny.
It's not just the hair color or even the similar facial structure, but the posing that does it, at least for me. With Jodi she's not facing exactly the same direction so it was easier to tell her apart.
And for those who are saying Elliott needs to be included, he has perhaps the most unique posing of them all! I had no problem telling him apart.
(Actually, I just realized that him and Sandy have the same pose! But they certainly look different enough as is.)

Part of my family comes from a town much larger than Pelican Town but still small (less than 2k) and even in a town that size I am loosely related to EVERYBODY to some degree.
One time I introduced my boyfriend at the time to my great grandma and that's how I learned we were 4th cousins. That was not fun. I only dated out of towners after that.
So yeah, I imagine in a town as tiny as Pelican Town everybody is probably related by either blood or marriage unless they moved from somewhere else.
