What the hell is going on at KSDK?
It seems like they’ve been firing people left and right. Not only is it an entire new cast— they aren’t great and the production quality has declined considerably 😕
The lighting is bad, there’s no set, only awkward green screen shots— what is happening with them?
It was going downhill 20 years ago when I worked there. That’s when they started cutting jobs, “streamlining” the newsroom, having “backpack reporters” who basically had to be their own camera operator, getting rid of overnight coverage, etc. Sad to see, 5 was THE station growing up in the 80s and 90s.
It was The Standard - Karen Foss and Dick Ford - miss them!

KMOV’s been the local news channel to watch for almost a decade. I have some nostalgia for KSDK but that will be completely gone with Mike Bush’s retirement.
I hope Scott can get a role at one of the other stations and get out of there while he can, although I don't know how much being a Chief Meteorologist means to him.
They're moving to a new studio, so they're on a temporary set at the moment, which explains the lower than usual production quality.
As for why people are leaving left and right, just go look at what Anthony Slaughter had to say when he left and what Rene Knott's side of his story is, or even what Survivor's Savannah had to say on national television! Seems like everyone there is overworked in a toxic environment.
Honestly, overworked toxic environment describes a lot of newsrooms these days. So many of the companies that own them are straight up awful to boot. There’s a reason that so many operate on contracts, otherwise their turnover would likely be untenable.
I would have told them, "Yeah, I got that draco. It's not a secret. Somebody is taking things out of context. I would be hiding ownership if I was going to do dirt". People making up shit on the avid gun lover. Some say him quitting like that was very sus. I don't know about that.

They go to the weather guy and silence for a few seconds while he talks. Then the feed glitches. They keep hiring dorks out of Mizz like the newer sports guy. Absolute clown show. Once Frank and that raccoon on his head retires its kids that should be doing Wichita news.
The raccoon died years ago.
I just turned on their morning show for the first time today and wow. I know we're in the liminal space between the holidays, but it was embarrassing.
Who still watches the local news?
