I don't know why it's gotten so popular to pull out of traffic at a stoplight and use an empty left turn lane to drive through the intersection but it's an idiotic and reckless maneuver.
My husband once got pulled over for a rolling stop on Jefferson and gravois at 730 AM on Christmas Eve. I was like??? How did you manage to do that?? He's the granniest of all granny drivers so I know it had to be like an 85% stop or more. That is some terrible luck.
I was literally passed in a tight neighborhood heading to Sugarwitch right before reaching the stop sign by someone that just blasted right past me and didn't even yield at the sign. I was genuinely shook and thought I was the problem.
Almost the same experience. Another person did the same thing only to go down the wrong way of a two-lane one-way for a block to the turn. Looked the like the Hulk had punched their car door
I moved back to the west coast after a couple years in St Louis. I can't even explain to people what driving in the Lou is like. Motorcycle riders are on a death wish riding there. Saw enough crashes of those for a lifetime.
I did the opposite move. I'm in hell. I'm used to treating every other driver like they're stupid, that's normal. But now I have to treat them like they're stupid and don't care if they live or die. Here people are willing to roll the dice turning left on a red into oncoming traffic just to see what happens.
I rid this yesterday... stopped at a red light then went because it was clear.. (exhausted from yard work) wife said, that was a red light not a stop sign" I said, "Oh well, its Dutchtown... no one cares."
I just like the fact that I don’t have to be ‘on’ the entire time. Just smooth sailing with the cruise control set. Though it could get slightly exciting if you missed the last gas station for the next 30 miles and the E just showed up.
Then again, I made that trip after living in LA for years so the dullest drive was the best drive.
Sounds good to me. I was pleasantly surprised how well behaved everyone in DC was, even in thick traffic. There was much less stressful churn and drivers didn’t do unpredictable crap. Don’t remember what route I took but drove through from west to east and then back once, then drove east out of Reagan airport and then west back to Reagan. So maybe not beltway.
In STL, I find often the least stressful way to go is to stay in the left lane since you avoid the merging churn and don’t have to watch out for your left. Downside is you do have to go fast, lol.
I was recently in Chicago and was not looking forward to the traffic but everyone was so polite, merged well, didn't fight over letting you in. Everyone seemed to be working together it was pretty nice lol I was really surprised.
In Chicago, everyone merges and cuts in as if it's just part of daily driving protocol. People expect it so regularly that they're more aware and actually encourage it. You just have to brazenly insert yourself into another lane even if there's barely any space to do so, because it's incredibly unlikely anyone will just let you over if you've been signaling for any extended period of time. At least, that was my experience around downtown.
I noticed that! I was like people just go for it and the other person doesn't fight them about it lol I usually take the train up there so I hadn't driven there in about 20 years so I didn't know what to expect.
It's been a while since I lived in STL. Pardon my lack of knowledge.
There were cars that had bumper stickers with a Christian radio station. Those cars always were the worst offenders. Ope that was a stop sign? Jesus take the wheel.
I've had to carefully plan my commute from U City to Hazelwood to one that doesn't involve driving on Page (I got hit earlier this year on Page by a woman speeding through a construction zone).
There’s no oops
exactly!
it’s ope.
Bold to think we actually fret over it being illegal
Spoken like someone with a temp tag out of date since last year.
Last year Is for squares
My buddy's tags are 2 years past due and still no fine
me!
Mine expire this month and i haven’t paid my personal property tax in two years ugh
Proud of you. 🙏
The cops are the biggest offenders with this stuff.
Missing the main character syndrome. Should be "why are you inconveniencing me in my own kingdom, you serf! Oh crap, there's my exit. GTFO my way!"
BIG
ALTIMA

I love the typical STL "I'm going to cut you off to only drive slower than the speed limit" some of you have
Lol, the assumption that it's not done on purpose is cute.
I don't know why it's gotten so popular to pull out of traffic at a stoplight and use an empty left turn lane to drive through the intersection but it's an idiotic and reckless maneuver.
Oops?
More like "ope"
Stop signs are only suggestions.

You guys can read?

They were probably just hoping to achieve a more organic opportunity to even out the aesthetic for the passenger side is all. I get it.

And carrying, so don't flip anyone off.

Everywhere thinks they got the worst drivers, but stl might actually
Driven 48 states. 44 in Mo is the worst section of highway in the US. Worst loop is the beltway in DC. Worst drivers IMHO - Atlanta.
But fuck does St Louis try.
44 in St. Louis is the least scary though. Everyone on 170 and 70 seems to have main character energy.
It's 44 between Joplin and St Louis that's the worst highway stretch. Honest.
44 to Springfield is worse than 70 to KC? That shocks me as someone who drives both somewhat regularly
ANY weather hits and 44 has more accidents per mile than 70 by a long shot.
Makes sense to me. A bunch of people who under estimate how hilly/curvy 44 is until they’ve lost traction into a bend.

Looking at actual data, Missouri is a bit worse than average, but likely not the worst.
Nice reference! Id like to see that not just by number of drivers but by number of miles driven.
70 in the City or 170 between 70 and 40 are far worse than 64.
Honestly, that stretch of 170 is the most random driving that I’ve ever seen. You can be simultaneouslythe fastest and slowest driver on the road.
I still say TN has the worst drivers. I agree that MO tries really really hard though.
I personally love driving in Penn and NJ. And I’m one of the few who doesn’t mind Kansas I think.
Nobody minds Kansas. There's nothing there to mind.
Yup. They say it is boring and hate driving in it. I love that, especially after driving the hills of MO.
Hayes used to have a wonderful Mopar museum and it was the only thing on 70 to stop for. Sadly it's now gone and has been for years.

Because you have to be from St. Louis to even think that's a thing.
Well thats how people drive here 💁♀️
I had a similar experience in San Diego and Honolulu when i was navy, tons and tons of cars but mostly good drivers.
Still can’t decide whats better, more time consuming traffic but better drivers or less traffic but bad drivers
People in STL drive like they have nothing to lose.
It's been a while since I lived in STL. Pardon my lack of knowledge.

99.1 Joy FM. I once saw somebody with a Joy FM sticker seemingly trying to hit a grocery cart in a parking lot back into a cart corral with their car.
I loved when someone slapped the Loop Trolley with a Joy FM sticker for running into too many vehicles. 😄

My favorite “only in STL” incidents that I had: one time I saw a guy not want to get stopped in a construction zone so he went down an on ramp.
There was also a guy I used to see driving backwards for some reason??? I witnessed him doing this like 3 times.
It happens in the county too lol.
Very true. It feels though that it gets proportionately worse closer to the city center.
I've had to carefully plan my commute from U City to Hazelwood to one that doesn't involve driving on Page (I got hit earlier this year on Page by a woman speeding through a construction zone).
It also feels like it’s proportionally more county and IL drivers the closer you get to the city center.
Remember kids. If it's not enforced, it's not a law
STL drivers need to speed the hell up
I live in the city and it’s ridiculous how out of control it is.
People who pretend like turning signals mean nothing, should have their own layer in hell
I mean I’m not sitting at a red light by myself while a bunch of tweakers eye ball my car
Are they tweakers, or just black?
The stop light by route 3 bridge was about 50/50 when I used to drive it daily.
Accurate.
Aye OP knows too! Amen! 😁
🎯
Truly some of the worst drivers I've encountered anywhere. Nashville is worse but just barely
Being a scofflaw is illegal? No one told me that! I thought it was more a matter of manners
Drivers education is not required in the state of Missouri, so it keeps things spicy
I actually did not know that. It makes more sense now!
😂
The signage is confusing and damaged in some areas
