To be fair even my sheik has problems in close combat against ryu but those campy spammy characters are dogshit and say a lot about their users : Snake , Spammus , mii gunner , all links or fucking min min i rather fight kazuya than an of those mc donalds wifi spamming warriors⚠️
Yeah you gotta close that gap like you mean it. I aim for a "freight train" kind of vibe to demoralize them. I can typically outbox them just based on our movesets, but unnerving them can cause it to snowball. At least that's my experience. Plus flame breath is super helpful against projectiles.
Get comfortable with fast falls and short hops. You can also party their rockets and stuff if you figure out the timing. Samus isn't defenseless up close but she's no boxer. Not like Zero Suit.

Samus slaps Ryu, but this type of degenerate play style crumbles pretty hard with any character that has hops and a decent approach game.
