I threw a 55 gram glande 40 feet and it hit the board in .325 seconds
That means it was traveling at around 84 miles per hour.
It also hit with around 39 joules of energy
This is on average close to a .22 Rifle Round
That was a fatal hit ,or a very easily permanently disabling hit.

I have definitely lessons learned. Most of the glandes came out underfilled and under weight. I had a few good ones. Next round, they will be better. But they're not unthrowable for sure!

It put a hole through quarter inch plywood nonetheless. I could have put some more spice in them, but I felt constricted being only 40 feet away and trying to hit the target. I really wanted to chooch it but I lack the current accuracy for that distance.

Nice work! Hardly any air pockets in them. It does take a bit of practice to fill them up just right. If you do overfill them, the edge of an old spoon is great for knocking the sprue off

I went and purchased a Lab Oscillator that shook all the air bubbles out. However the particular mixture I had seemed to further settle.  Overfilling looked to be better than underfilling.

I will try doing another batch tomorrow.  Definitely an outside job with how nasty that cement powder is.  I thought at first I could use a condiment dispenser and was very quickly proven wrong!

I'll print out a little plunger and get a decent sized funnel and go that route, can get a better pour hopefully. I wound up usual an emergency Ziploc bag because well, cement was setting in the mixing bowl!

Now that's dedication! I tried those dispensers etc as well. What I found work best is a soft drink bottle with the top cut off as well as smaller concrete catches, say max 3kg. I only run 4 moulds though, with a daily turnaround thats a 300+ glandes a week if I keep at it

I just love slinging so much 🤣
I made enough to fill around 72 glandes worth, with some of them being the 120g variants with most being the 90g variants.

My real problem is places with a good backstop I could throw. Behind this board is some woods and losing 5-7 glandes isn't too much a thing, but I would not make a habit of it as they'd accumulate. That's where biodegradable materials come in! Would love to get some clay and mash them into that shape. Would probably just use two of the molds with holes in them and make a little plug to prevent overfilling but can remove the plug so you can more easily pop them out with a finger. Just for clay though, I needed some very much more liberal usage of mold release for the cement. The spray can I was using wasn't quite sufficient and required quite a lot of whacking to release.

Once I get the process down, I think I'll eventually put up a proper youtube video with a how-to and link your molds and show how I fill them with various things.

I spray paint mine with fluoro orange marking paint, I find a few more after my slinging session then xD

    I'll have to try that!

I wonder if using dry quick crete to fill the molds initially and then adding water to cure would work better. Vaseline would also work as a mould release though it would be easy to overfill.

Also using a vertical mould mat help get more air out of the glandes. It would also let you overfill without needing to remove as much flashing. It's just the tip anyways. (That's what she said)

  • You might want to paint them a bright color, so you don’t loose them, they may not be perfect but you can still practice with them. Did you get any to spiral?

The one in the video was my best pick. But my slow-mo camera from that distance basically only caught blurs so it was difficult to say.
