Went to the shelter and saw this guy my family is considering adopting him. This will be my first time owning a cat. I remember my grandma having a Siamese and always thought they were really cool cats. He has quite a bad cold at the moment. He was a stray and is 9 months old and hasn’t been neutered yet. Does anyone know if I’m likely to have issues with him if is neutered that late into his life? Also, just curious, is this cat considered a seal point?
Thanks
EDIT: I called the shelter today and put a hold on the little guy. They will call me after he is fixed and I can pick him up. You all really pushed me over the edge with your encouragement!

You absolutely should adopt him, he’s a cutie pie
9 months is pretty standard neutering time
Enjoy your new lil guy. Shouldn't be any problem getting him neutered but I'm sure you can work that out at his first vet appointment. (A little surprised the shelter is adopting him out without doing that as part of the adoption!)
Sorry, should have clarified, the shelter is doing that. Was just worried about things like spraying
Oh good for the shelter - yes, shelters usually have a solid vet lined up but if you have any concerns, just ask the vet. It's a very routine, fast and safe procedure and is good for the long term health of cats.
It probably should wait til after that cold clears up though. May you all enjoy many happy years together!
This vet source says that only about 10% of male cats who are neutered later in life continue to spray. So odds are good he won’t spray after neutering :)
Just wanted to provide hard numbers so you can make an informed decision :)

Took in a Siamese cat (male) from the street. Couldn’t find his owner so he just stayed. He sprayed on EVERYTHING while waiting for his neuter appointment and was at least five years old. I was really worried that he wouldn’t stop even after being neutered but he 100% did. He’s super social and kind and looks similar to this guy 🩷💜 I hope you guys have many happy years together!
Do it! Siamese cats are the absolute best!
Black cats are 2nd best.
I have a Siamese and her sister is black. And I agree they are amazing. 😻
They’re so chatty. The best!
He’s beautiful, meezers are the best. I hope his cold clears up, and I wish you the best of luck in your new role as cat custodian.
He's a lovebug. 9 months is perfect for neutering. Congratulations!!! To you both!
Once his cold is better and he recovers from surgery, make sure to play with him- most siamese are very smart, like to be active and have very engaging personalities. Good luck!
Hello! Definitely a seal point, I adopted mine at the same age as yours and was also not neutered at the time. I never had any issues with spraying or other behaviors.
Keep up with the obvious stuff, littler box cleaning (daily), stimulating toys, and plenty of exercise. Meezers are very vocal so just expect that and have some fun with the little guy.
He looks like a lighter version of my Lou bug. Absolutely adopt him!

Please please do.
Siamese cats are wonderful. My baby just passed away and she lived 20 years. If she hadn't gotten kidney disease, she would still be alive. That baby boy is Beautiful. Good luck to you.
The bestest cats!
Definitely go for it. I also had an older kitten neutered around this age and he was totally fine. Siamese kitties are just awesome. Give him time to adjust to his new surroundings. Maybe keep him in a room with food and a litter box until he is ready to take on more of the house.
Beautiful cat! Yes, adopt him🩶
Pretty smoochable looking forehead
Yes you will have issues. You’ll have a new friend who won’t want to leave you alone. They’ll want treats. Attention. There’s the litter box. But you won’t regret it! They’re good issues! Your little buddy that you’ll want to share pics of.
What’s there to think about?
100% recommend! I have had 4 Siamese in my life. My current one is 13 years old, the one before her 22years old. All my furr babies adopted. Not one regret. Siamese are very finicky but those blue eyes will melt your heart and they are devoted.
Neutering is a must and no he will be fine. BTW Siamese get colds just like humans. The baby I had for 22 years I nursed back to health hand feeding her heavy protein and antibiotics… don’t let that hinder you!!! Please adopt and give this guy a good home you won’t regret it!
He is a seal point and he is perfect 😍

Get used to that expression. Ours earned the alias "Bitch face Beanie"
After a couple of months his hair is going to look so different. He’ll blossom. I remember when we adopted our Siamese he looked wheaten and older in the face. He was just stressed and not really well nourished.
Check out that guy! Looks like a great guy to adopt
This is a chocolate point, seal point is a blue grey on face paws and ears
Chocolate and Seal Points have no grey tips at all. Seals have dark brown points. They are the darkest, followed by Chocolate Point. Lilac, Blue Points have grey... (I have had 2 registered Seal Points, and Blue Point siamese)... just wanted to clarify 😊
Thanks I corrected myself below…sounds like you have a houseful of Siams! We would be great friends! Lol
Apologies I didn't see your correct ion! Yes indeed I do lol, and any lover of the great Siamese would definitely be a great friend 😊
Stand corrected apologies this is seal point lol my bad
If you don’t, I will!
You should adopt him. He's very handsome and looks like he be a cool cat for you!!!
Not really. Later de-sexing is only a possible small issue is when the cat develops full sexual characteristics, such as marking territory with glandular spraying.
What a handsome little boy! He looks like my seal point boy, Loki-Doki.
Aww, this reminds me of my flame point that I adopted. She was really sick and in rough shape at first, but she healed up beautifully and is now healthy and thriving.
When you bring him home, patience is key. You mentioned this is your first cat, so just a heads-up: it took my flame point a long time to feel comfortable. Don’t be discouraged if that happens with this little guy too, it’s totally normal.
My other cat that I adopted first (a seal point) adjusted much faster. During each experience, I let them come out of their “safe room” on their own terms… you’ll know when they start getting curious about the door. I also have two small senior dogs, so slow introductions mattered.
Highly recommend Jackson Galaxy on YouTube his videos helped me a ton and made peaceful coexistence possible here.
Good luck, and congrats!
Good choice
How could such a beautiful cat become a stray? Siamese cats may meow more than other cats to get attention.
Some cats who have been outdoors have issues with spraying, if not neutered early. Some do not. I’ve fostered over 100 cats. Most are fine after neutering. Those who aren’t are usually over 2 years, in my experience. I have never had a pheromone plug in and spray fail to break a vat of spraying.
Enjoy your new adopted cat. You know you want him.
Siamese are the best, and this is a seal point Siamese. I have had two of them, thus far.
Please keep us updated :)
❤️❤️❤️ I want to boop that adorable nose! He's so cute! Please take him home and give him a furever home! Yes, he looks like he has seal point markings. A male cat being neutered at 9 months is perfectly fine. I adopted a silver striped tabby boy who was about that age from a person who could no longer keep him and learned I was wanting to adopt a kitty. He wasn't fixed yet, but I made an appointment a few weeks after I got him. All went well. No spraying, no drama. Once this kitty is feeling better, he can get neutered. He'll probably get all of his kitten shots done already, but if he has any remaining, it's easy to find low cost vaccination clinics to bring him to. Good luck to you and this sweet looking little guy should you decide to adopt him. He looks like one of the Siamese cats I grew up with. There were two my family had. One was a Seal Point boy, and the other was a Lilac Point boy.
There is no way you are not, right?
Beautiful 😻 can I ask what shelter you are adopting from?
IF YOU HAVE THE MEANS, DO IT
Do it! Especially if there’s even the slightest inkling that he wants to adopt you back 😜 I had my Siamese boy for nearly 10 years before he passed suddenly, and I was his person 🥰 Plus, rescues seem to know that you’ve rescued them, and appreciate their forever home just that little bit more 😉
That is a very good looking Seal Point. You can neuter cats at any age
Definitely adopt him!
Pls get him he will warm up in time!!
He definitely has seal-point markings. So glad y’all are opening your hearts/home to this fellow. Best of luck - meezers are such good companions 🩵🩵🩵
Do it NOW!
Yes!!!
My boy was not neutered until age two and it was never a problem for him. He lived until age 21.
Note: It was his previous owner that did not neuter him. The prior owner turned him into the shelter because his landlord told him to get rid of the cat. An intact Siamese male...duh!
He is such a precious baby!!! You will love having him as part of your family

Siamese really are the cutest
Adopt it immediately or you will spend the next 3 months with diarrhea.
Yes you should. He's beautiful ❤️
I think he approves this message!!😀
Stop thinking about it. Just do it. Adopt him.
There is no think. There is only do.
Every Siamese Cat should have a forever home for his or her very own….
Do it!!!
If at all possible you should I would he is lovely 🥰
Do it!!!
he’s a handsome boy!!
Nice! I love my little Siamese. Glad you placed the hold. And idk what is considered a “seal point” I’m pretty sure it’s just what they call siamese face markings. Here’s my girl though, her dad is a siamese and the mom is like a tortie ragdoll mix or something.
