Originally from Chicago, I've been living in Buenos Aires for the past 8 years but go back to Chicago regularly. (Feel free to contact me for tips re: Buenos Aires + Argentina in general <3)

The flight costs are getting quite unsustainable and I'm trying to see if i can find new hacks. I've been wanting to go to Brazil, and heard flights to the US are cheaper from Brazil. Anyone have any tips or hacks there? Maybe stay like a week in Rio and then head to Chicago?

  • Flights to/from Austin, Texas and South America have been showing cheap for awhile. eze->aus->eze then buy aus->ord->aus. Can be under $700 total but that's basic economy and only certain days.

  • I assume you’ve already tried to book a round trip from EZE to somewhere like Mexico City and a separate round trip from there to Chicago with some buffer on both ends in case something goes wrong?

  • One common hack is to try to get out of Argentina using a land border because international flights are usually more expensive than from neighbouring countries.

Fly to Iguazu domestic in Argentina, cross the land border into Brazil, fly out of Iguazu on the Brazilian side. Or do the same via Mendoza and into Chile.

  • I miss the direct flight on Aerolineas Argentina from JFK to EZE
