Happy Holidays to everyone celebrating.
Trying to book a trip to Tokyo for February and I can't find anything <£700 from any UK airport.
I want to travel between 12th and 21st. Is there something better out there. I have tried checking from Budapest to get the China Airlines that can go as low as <500.
u/savehoward please could you chime in on here. You helped me to get the tickets the only 2 times I have visited Tokyo.
Thanks a lot
568 GBP / 755 USD is doable for you. I’m glad to hear you made it to Tokyo safely so often before.
Take the late night Ryanair flight Stansted to Budapest late Feb 11 for $41 just like last time https://www.google.com/travel/flights/s/TsFpqFn4hksp2LgEA Then Budapest to Tokyo on Shanghai Air for $357 the next morning. https://www.google.com/travel/flights/s/HCe5k1Qu3Dk2Ktg38
Return Tokyo to Frankfurt am Main for $331 https://www.google.com/travel/flights/s/N5RWruirKFK822mW6 Take the bus from Frankfurt am Main to Frankfurt Hanh and fly Ryanair back for $20 https://www.google.com/travel/flights/s/V6NQShkA224HteJ37
But if you can take more time off consider leaving Tokyo to Edmonton and then return to London for a discounted visit to Edmonton.
And unfortunately Skyscanner nor Google flights can find this cheap route yet.
Thanks a lot as always for this. If I add a stop to Edmonton, how much more will this be? I have family & friends there and don't mind a stop over visit.
I remember.
Tokyo to Vancouver on Zipair for $241, vancouver to Edmonton for $33 on westjet, the Edmonton to london on westjet for $177.
About 80 usd / 60 gbp for a side trip to Edmonton.
This is just amazing. Let me get to work navigating all of this.
I'm thinking of adding an extra bag from Tokyo to Edmonton to maybe get bits and bobs for niblings - just checked and it's about 114CAD. Not sure if it's worth adding that and paying again for a bag to Edmonton.
Anyway, I'll see where I end up with this.
Thank you soo soo much and hope you have a great holiday - you are the real 🎅!
Consider getting food gifts. A single bag of food is exempt from your carry on limit under accessible canada. Tokyo milk factory and hokkaido biscuits are nice.
Most of all i hope you can find more time to be in both Tokyo and Edmonton.
I always buy hokkaido milk biscuits. Love them!!
This seems quite ambitious considering the time off that I currently have and the travel time. I'll try and see if I can get a few more days off. If not, I'll probably leave off Edmonton and just do a trip there later on.
I love Tokyo and I'd rather spend some extra days there.
Just a note that FRA to HHN is usually around 2 hours and that can cost between 22 to 40 euros depending on what mode of transport that you use.
Thanks for the notice. I thankfully haven't booked the Frankfurt - London leg, so will do that after checking on this later today.
u/savehoward I have just booked everything.
So basically I ended up with £678 and going with the following:
Manchester to Athens with easyjet - £62
Athens to Hanoi with Indigo air- £207
Hanoi to Tokyo with Vietjet - £143
Tokyo to Frankfurt with Vietnam airlines - £250 (get in 6am)
Frankfurt to London with Ryanair - £16 ( flight is 12:50 or 23:50). I haven't booked yet & this is the only one pending. Given the distance between FRA and HNN, it makes sense to go for the later flight and get a day out in Frankfurt as I've never visited.
I get 4 days in Hanoi (first time here so I was pleased to knock off another country/city on my list) and 8 days in Tokyo. I also managed to get 9 - 11th off, giving me more flexibility on the options.
The Indigo portion had me worried because of transit visa requirements but from all my research yesterday, as long as the entire trip is on the same PNR and you don't change terminal, you won't need a transit visa. u/savehoward, I hope my understanding is correct.
No visa is needed for india if you have a continuous ticket number. Visas and immigration goes by ticket numbers. Not as common as in the past, travel agents can connect separate tickets into the same PNR. You would see just one ticket number for all flights.
Glad you’re seeing more of the world. Usually not Frankfurt, but consider seeing Heidelberg instead. The castle is great. In Hanoi consider seeing the water puppet show. And get wax jambu.
Thank you soo much. I'll try the wax jambu and let you know. I'll also look at seeing the water puppet show.
I've just checked and Heidelberg is a 50min train from Frankfurt. So will do that and get the late flight back to London.
You're 2 months away from travel, chances are that the cheap bucket of seats are gone.
I unfortunately just decided on doing this.
Yeah you're probably going to be extremely limited on good deals. There are rarely "secret" ways to get good deals on travel. Most of the time its just timing and flexibility--checking everyday for the chance of a good deal.
A lot of airlines price their tickets in "buckets". They don't want empty flights so (as an example) seats 1-50 are priced 50% of going rate, 51-100 are 80% of going rate, 100-200 are the normal rate, and the last 200-250 are 150% of normal rate. And of course timing influences those prices as well. So like I said, 2 months out you're probably going to be paying the normal rate--at best.
Personally I would just find the best airline you can for the cost and avoid the ryanair model airlines.
Realistically spending a few hundred extra for a flight for a great vacation isn't going to be a backbreaker. You won't enjoy your trip any less.
That makes sense. I'm unfortunately conditioned to find the cheapest fare I can for travel as I tend to spend a bit more on hotels and experiences.
We'll see what I end up with.
Best of luck.
That's February half-term holidays, so yeah prices look steep. Avios booking?
Yeah. I figured with schools being out, prices will be steep. But just checking on here to make sure I'm not missing out on any other option.
No avios unfortunately.
You may have to change your dates if you need better priced flights. If changing your dates isn’t possible, you may need to pay up.
Unfortunately I can only do +/- 1 day. So I'm hoping to find a middle price I can pay and enjoy planning my trip.
Try skyscanner
I have. The £758 flights involve 5 airlines and the connections are wonky.
Or Google flights
Tried both. Hoping someone with more experience could help me with a better price/connection.
Interesting, normally there are lots of options with stopover in China with Chinese airlines. Seems like flights between Japan and china are cancelled now due to recent tensions and that’s the reason you’re not seeing any cheap options
Zippair?
Did you have a look at skiplagged? Some limitations on the search function, but broadly your best option for finding tricky routes at low prices.
Never heard of them but saving this for next trip.
