Life tip: avoid ORD at all costs. Agree with others…CDMX. No question. Plus, Mexico City is far more festive for the holidays. I’ve had the best Christmas’ in Mexico, it’s an experience to be had.
I live in Chicago and I’m planning a trip to Mexico City for Christmas, which I’m excited for. Both cities have their charm, and great Xmas decorations. I think you just have to decide whether you prefer 70F & sunny or 30F and cloudy.
One thing to consider is that a lot of places (museums, restaurants, etc) are closed on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day…both in Chicago AND Mexico City. You can still have a good time, but just need to plan ahead.
For sure don’t go to Chicago in winter. I’m from normal New York winters so I didn’t understand what windy city meant. I was going to walk to my attraction from the hotel thinking it’s just a few blocks. I felt the wind cutting through my bones like knives. It was so bad. I actually couldn’t make it down the block before I hailed a cab. I’d choose a temperate Mexico City in winter any day.
When I have been for New Years,my family is from DF, I wore jeans, T-shirt and sandals. My friend from Maine wore sundresses. Not hot but very comfortable.
Your money will go farther in Mexico City. It’ll be very Christmas-y even if it’s not a white Christmas sorta place. Nights and early mornings will be chilly so plan appropriately but. Where near the cold in Chicago.
Not all that much to do in Chicago over Christmas, really. Everything will be closed more or less on Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. Too cold for just wandering around, or hitting the lake.
Love Mexico City but made the mistake of going there during Christmas the first time. Most of the resident in the city leave during the holidays and it was much emptier and not as enjoyable. Some places were closed as well for the holidays. So please consider that.
Flew in/out of their last week while construction was going on at Terminal 1. It was one loooong hallway where all the gates are and only one exit. So you had arrivals trying to leave the airport and departures going to their gates, while workers are working, in this same hallway.
Loved CDMX but probably won't return until MEX is finished with its reno.
Mexico! The Zocalo is Beautiful at Christmas!!!

I'm at ORD right now and it's chill.

Do you like heat or cold?

Hotter than Chicago

I went last year for new years and I was in shorts and a t shirt
What are you basing that on?
Mexico City isn't too hot. You'll need a hat & sweater.

I am Canadian so a white Xmas would be ruled out.
But if you are from a tropical place I guess it would be cool ( in more ways than one haha)
CDMX all the way…

The sub is r/shoestring. The answer is obvious. The question isn't serious. Are these prompts to teach AI?
Mexico City is safer, better food, 70 degrees.
I would pick Mexico!
Mexico City, hands down not even close!!

Do you want to be "cute cold" or "Antarctica cold?"
CDMX
I’m going to Mexico next week for a week 👍
Walk around in shirt sleeves eating awesome street food…. Mexico City for sure
Fly into ORD at Christmas?
This is a joke right?
Mexico City over Chicago and that wretched airport O’Hare all day every day.
Well if you're going to bring airports into this... MEX is just as bad. But yes CDMX over Chicago is the move.
Huh, I’ve never had an issue at MEX? I mean the announcement of gates at the last minute is weird but otherwise it’s always smooth sailing.

ORD is under construction now too. It’s horrible.
MxC. You’re welcome.
I love it there!
