I mean, there’s a ton of elements in there that remind me of different bands from that era. Yellowcard, Sum 41, Blink 182, BFS, Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, and most notably the “I can believe” being extremely reminiscent of Dexter Holland from The Offspring
Sum 41 sounds like "the pop punk band people know" rather than how it actually sounds. but it sounds like a mishmash of a bunch of pop punk and skate punk from the era. Sum 41 has *more* attitude in most of their music than this one, but if "In To Deep" is your only reference then yeah.
I think it sounds closer to The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus but like, if instead of being a christian band, they were *all* about surfing.
BUT im a dickhead about it because it would probably be in my top 5 as genres of music go.
I mean personally to me, the song sounds extremely similar to "Over My Head" so for me, the association with Sum 41 is from the specific song that the m10 song reminds me of. It's not just "the pop punk band I know", I feel like I'm basically listening to that song when I hear the m10 song.

I dont hear it in Over My Head. I feel like over my head has too much roughness in the singers voice.
Its heavier than what the M10 song is.
