Well in some sense they are kinda right. The original definition was that America and its allies are the first world. Russia and its allies was the second. Other places were the third world.
And since America no longer has any allies, just about everywhere is indeed the third world!
Most films set in American cities are filmed in Canada anyway except when a scene needs a specific landmark like Times Square. Way easier to get a filming permit for Vancouver or Toronto.
In true Canadian fashion, 'sorry, I did not understand'. Yes your correct. When ever I went to their country I would refer to the kerfuffle in the 1860's as 'The war of northern aggression'. In regards to the term 'yankees', since the 1780's that would be the kindest word they would use to describe the residents of the nation to my south and west.
See southern Americans call northern Americans Yankees (it’s derogatory) so they REALLY don’t like being called Yankees (i didn’t explain it originally - my bad). It’s a weird civil war leftover and i only learned about it myself because i stumbled into it accidentally and made someone really mad (they ended up yelling about how I’m the Yankee). It was very confusing.
When Americans think everywhere else is bad and third-world, including most developed nations they're so unbelievably wrong. I'm from a developing nation which has much better health and longevity than the USA.
Not only they're not the best among developed nations but in many aspects are below developing nations.
At least Toronto has a program for monotoring, managing, and replacing the old lead pipe infrastructure. In Chicago they essentially ignore the situation and eat lead.
The economy of Toronto is just under a third of the size of Chicago's, with similar population sizes, to put things into perspective. It is definately smaller but idk how he can say "third world"

That person might want to look at the condition of American cities.
With their crumbling infrastructure, troop presence, and homelessness a lot of US cities look more third world than any Canadian city does.
LOL Chicago has more murders than the whole of the UK, a country 20x bigger than it, so you've got it all mixed up.
