• Americans saying that the Canadian Government "lie to them" is a bit rich

Also, saying how arrogant Canadians are while making arrogant comments. 😂

Usually arrogance to them means not bowing to their sense of superiority.

They see not getting special treatment as being insulted. It's like a giant country filled with adult toddlers throwing tantrums when things don't go their way. That's essentially what Trump is, he is both a symptom and the manifestation of their country wide tantrum.

Aye that tickled me too, coming from one of the most arrogant nations on the planet (the other being Russia who they pretend to hate)

They only hate Russians when they’re the bad guys in movies from the ‘80s.

And the line about Canadians making the same mistake twice when they voted in Trump twice is beyond parody

I was thinking the same thing!

Every accusation from them is a confession. Every. Single. Time.

Americans think they are the smartest when they are the dumbest in the room, thry think they are special when they really aren't and when people don't give them special treatment, they think they are being insulted. The collective delusion that is the American public is insane. Every accusation is just a projection. They are burning their own country down, and when the rest of the world is seeing what is going on and bracing themselves for it, they see it as a confirmation that the rest of the world is crazy and destroying themselves, because our economies are intertwined in the US one and when things go bad there it influences things here, but they only see its influence here whilst blindly delude themselves that things are fine or that it was the democrats their fault if things go bad.

The US government, lie to their own people? They would never! /s

"It's not a lie if you believe it."

Now, let me reach over to my tariff shelf, that all those greedy countries have paid for, and grab some totally non-socialist bailouts for all my Trump-loving farmers.

"If you tell a lie often enough it becomes truth" - JG

To be fair, self awareness was never the Americans' forte.

To be fair all politicians lie but at the vary least the Canadian government functions as intended and you literally can't say the same thing for the current U.S. government

  • If Canada didnt fight in any wars, then why do we send tulips to Canada?

Because you are really cool people, and we love them.

Can confirm, went to Ottawa during the Tulip Festival. Loved them

I was going to say... Is the Netherlands just sending us tulips every year because they heard we were nice?

    But you guys are 🤷🏻‍♀️

Not during WWII they weren't. We send Tulips because if you are in a war where Canada participates, you want them on your side.

I'm sure it's to placate you, lest you decide to invent [a new kind of horror] to add to the Geneva Conventions.

Edited to better reference Anaal Nakrath.

Honestly… that might be part of it 😂

Well we also housed their royal family and created a maternity ward in an Ottawa hospital as dutch land so that one of their princesses could be born on Dutch soil. But apparently the Canadian War memorial I visited in the netherlands doesn't exist.

My hometown didn’t exist if it wasn’t for the Canadians. They tried to bomb the shit out of it. Canadians liberated us, not the US.

I missed the celebration parade last year (never missed one before) and I’m still bummed about it.

And bred one especially for Canada's 150th anniversary.

We need to go back to being known for making cool plants we made carrots orange we made this amazing thing

We Dutch or we Canadians? I don’t know but that’s cool either way

We dutch we apparently are just good at making plants

That’s very true, I thank the Dutch people for the orange carrot. I love em.

Thank you. We thank you for the existence of the Geneva Conventions

Im Welsh sorry. When saying “we Canadians or we Dutch” I was just trying to find the correct word when the previous comment said “we need to..”

Though, I have no problem being called Canadian.

What! That’s so cool, I love it!

If Canada never went to war, why do the Geneva suggestions exist?

Geneva convention, because you remove a Canadian from maple syrup and ice hockey and you reap the whirlwind

Shhh don’t try to educate Americans!

I thought tulips were because of Princess Margriets birth in Canada

It’s part of the same thing

Technically the hotel room was declared Netherlands soil for that joyous event. But that part of the Netherlands was in Canada :)

Technically, she was born in the Netherlands. Isn't that the main point of that story?

Guess all your wonderful children can stop tending the graves of our war dead, since there aren’t any.

(But seriously, makes me tear up your country still cares for them so well)

For real!! Thank you handsome sweet Canadian friends 💕💕💕 I remember all the stories from when I used to work in an elderly home. I heard about these handsome Canadian soldiers bringing real chocolate and nylon stockings. We don’t forget 🩷

  • I don't know man. The war memorial dedicated to Canadian and Polish troops and their role in kicking Nazi Germany out of my town begs to differ.

Same in my UK town. We have a memorial and the town flies a Canadian flag to commemorate the Canadian troops who were stationed here during WWII and helped fight the Nazis.

Ohhh which town? I’d like to see that

Many UK towns had Canadian troops stationed in them, but Hampshire and Sussex had a high concentration, Aldershot in Hampshire being one .

My (Canadian) Grandfather spent a lot of the war stationed in the UK. He was with the Royal Canadian Engineers and assisted in evacuating, recovering and resecuring buildings during the bombing.

It brings me a lot of happiness to know that they are still recognized.

My great uncle trained as an RAF medic in Canada during the war - until recently my family was still in touch with the family he was billeted with. Lovely country, lovely people.

My grandfather was also in the Royal Canadian Engineers, stationed in the UK, I wonder if they knew each other.

That’s neat because there is an Aldershot not too far from us here in Toronto

The Pier Head in front of the 3 graces in Liverpool has an avenue of Maple Trees in remembrance of the sacrifices of the Canadian Navy which joined the Battle of the Atlantic, the longest battle of the war, at the very begining of WW2 and fought to the very end.

Cemetries with memorials are everywhere in De Westhoek, and plenty of them are flying Canadian flags. MAGA arrogance is maddening.

There is one in Agira, Sicily that is all Canadian. And my grandfather is buried there. He was killed during Operation Husky.

True. We have annual memorial services for the Canadian soldiers from WWII in my city. So if not Canadian, for WHO have we’ve been lighting candles all those years? (Netherlands)

Can confirm as a Dutchie. A Canadian general signed the German's surrender of the Netherlands

I assumed the memorial maker spelt "Murica" wrong? They won the war and saved everyone's arse! We would all be speaking Nazi now if it wasn't for them!

  • Exsqueeze me? Unlike a certain we're-rapidly-descending-into-fascism-but-not-quite-there-yet country, the Canadians were in both world wars from the very start.

    Not quite there yet?

They have the masked secret police dragging people off the street and putting them into concentration camps.

How much further do they need to go?

They're even at the step where their economy is crumbling, but it's everyone else's fault and everyone is somehow leeching off them, and they start trying to make alliances with the worst people from other countries and betraying their long time assets - ahem, allies.

Yeah, it's those nasty Canadians that are boycotting visiting the US. Those nasty Canadians companies who are passing the Tariffs onto the US consumers. And our oppressive governments pulling US booze from shelves.

    /s

Europe, too. No one other than them has a military, so they're subsidising our defence, and our healthcare somehow too. Despite all of us having way more taxes to pay, apparently.

They haven't formally cancelled the next elections.

They won’t. They will have elections. Russia has elections, too.

Trump, on camera: My boy Musky here really knows what he's doing with those voting machines wink wink

As an American with a brain (a rare species, I know), I’m quite aware of how the Canadians hit the beach at Normandy alongside the Brits and U.S. Americans never would have won that war alone, and needed a great deal of help from allies. It would have been much more difficult if the UK hadn’t been able to fend off the many German attacks before we came in.

Right?!! Also, Canada was there along with many other countries two years before America even joined WWII. Props to you for knowing more about your northern neighbors than the average American. It’s actually refreshing to read after reading comments like the ones above day after day. 😬

Thank you! I’ve always read a lot of history since my younger days.

"Americans never would have won that war alone, and needed a great deal of help from allies"

As if you were the leader and the rest of the allies your helpers? "Before you came in"? You were dragging your feet.

FDR only managed to bring their country in to the fight when he did because the Japanese attacked Pearl. If they hadn't attacked, the Yanks might not have joined the war effort at all.

I don’t consider it them joining the war. The war came to them.

If you’re sitting at the bar ignoring a bar fight, then someone smashes a barstool on your back and kicks you in the face while you’re on the floor, you’re not joining the fight, even if you do manage to get back up and kick the shit out of that guy.

My post was written poorly, but in no way did I mean that the allies were “helpers.” It took many people from many countries to win the war. The U.S. was only one of the.

As a French person with access to the internet - we would have been better off without the Americans coming here, and so would the Germans and English. Just look up war crimes during WW2 on Wikipedia. The American section is... Extensive, especially towards civilians.

I think being outside the Anglosphere (linguistically at least) also means we have access to more sources of information. I can read Wikipedia in English (obvi), German, French, and Japanese. That section on US war crimes in WW2 gets a whole lot longer in the non-English versions...

As a Canadian, sorry. But why did they do that to civilians?

I love your user flair, lol.

Are you asking why the USA targets civilians? Cruelty. Lack of discernment... too stupid to tell the difference between fighting an army and foreign = enemy...

It feels crazy that the first thing that came to mind when I read the OP was that my grandma's house was destroyed by Canadian bombs. And now we're here talking about shit Americans say on reddit. We moved on and tried to be better. (And now we're forgetting.) War always sucks.

I didn't even think to try in French or German... It was damning enough in English, I think I'll pass this time. It always fills me with such grief to read about that time, and I'm usually pretty unshakable when it comes to gore or true crime and stuff like that.

  • "Tanking the country"

Idk the dude who use to be the former head of the bank of Canada and bank of England might know a thing or two about the economy

Don’t forget about the PhD in economics 😉

    From Oxford

But Oxford isn't in the USA, so their degrees aren't worth shit!! /s
(hoping the sarcasm was obvious, but one never knows)

Nah nah. When you want your economy to boom you elect a 6-times bankrupted casino con man who wants to impose tariffs on everyone and piss off all your allies.

  • “Canadians have never been to war” Well if that’s true who the fuck liberated my country during WW2, because it sure as fuck weren’t the Americans, they buggered off when Operation Market Garden failed.

I was gonna say why does the Netherlands send us tulips then? Leo Major took Zwolle by himself!

I saw Leo Major speak once but I was super young and didn't pay much attention. Only later did I realize how sorely I missed out on one of his last remembrance day ceremonies.

    Jesus, lucky you!

I was waiting for someone to mention Leo Major, thanks friend.

Don't forget they bombed Nijmegen as well before they fucked off to Berlin.

It wasn't the Americans in my country either, they were too busy raping and murdering civilians and then sprinting to Berlin to declare themselves victors and do it x3 there like someone driving through the finish line at a marathon, killing half the spectators on the way.

Not to mention the shit they got up to in East Asia at the time... 😒 Gotta love how they double-fisted WW2 that way.

yeah gotta get the japanese to surrender before the red army arrives..

  • At least the surprise won’t be spoiled when a Canadian throws canned food at them.

It's what we throw after the canned food they should worry about.

If you team up with your recent allies in Sweden and requisition some surströmming, you can also make the seppos worry about the actual contents. "Culinary" warfare is not yet in the conventions, so you have a pass

Careful. That idea might make it in to the next chapter of the Geneva Checklist.

It’s not a warcrime the first time!

Canada aka the reason for at least a third of the Geneva convention

Unfortunatly its not the first time anymore.... but history has shown we tend to ignore warcrimes of the winning side

Ehhhh - i have faith you can come up with new ones

    We’re very creative.

We’re not allowed to kill two birds with one stone anymore…

“Remember boys, every POW is just less food for you”

It's going to blow them away.

  • There are rules of engagement for war because of Canadians fighting in conflicts. The less we are involved, historically speaking, the safer your wars are!

It's called the Juno Beach gene to some.

and they were the only ones that kept to the plan and reached their goals on D-Day.

And then had to fall back from to strengthen defensive positions as they had outrun the other Allied forces.

tl;dr; we were so successful we had to backup, so the other Allies could keep up.

    That's because they are crazy.

Like literally. What other army pioneers a strategy where you launch an artillery barrage right in front of your own soldiers? Can you imagine how terrifying it must have been on the receiving end of that?

The German soldiers said that Americans would kill you with their fancy expensive tech. British would kill you with their tactics and discipline. Canadians would kill because they want to.

I hate war, and I’m largely a pacifist… comfy in my suburban home as a 42 year old mom of two.

That being said, the more I watch terrible, heartless people come to power around the world, one of my dad’s idiosyncratic little phrases he throws out has started to seem very wise.

    “Some people just need killing.”

apparently the Canadians had some lovely target practice during the christmas truce too

  • an American calling a Canadian arrogant is crazy 😂

He's mistaking arrogance for resilience and pride. Americans think Canadians should just roll over and extol the USA's brilliance in the face of their military and economic might, but Canadians know Americans far too well to be sucked into their cults of personality and propagandized patriotism. Canadians have been paying attention to what America and Americans are doing for hundreds of years, while Americans have no idea what Canadians are about. That's why they are shocked and appalled when we don't cowtow to a random American idiot on the internet just because his notional passport that he has never applied for or used, says "United States of America" on the cover.

Mind you Canadians can definitely be arrogant, and this is a perfect example of why. We often compare ourselves to our close neighbour, and so yeah we're always doing fucking fantastic in comparison.

Then you step back and compare against the EU or Australia or something, and yeah we might be a little arrogant when we brag about our healthcare and government

  • Ah the Canadian army, one of the reasons for the Geneva conventions

Remember kids, it's not a war crime the first time! Be creative!

Back a few months i posted a meme on bluesky about how there’s no war crimes in a trade war and the solution is to INVENT war crimes in a trade war. If anyone can It’s Canadians

  • “Why are Canadians boycotting us, I don’t understand?!”

  • Canadians have been to war

YOU DON'T WANT CANADIANS AGAINST YOU IN A WAR

they are not as nice as they say

The switch between I’m sorry and you’ll be sorry is very very small.

If you're not capable of violence, you're not peaceful you're harmless.

Not my quote, I saw it on a post ages ago and really liked it.

There's a difference between nice and polite.

Well there was the polite whiskey war with Denmark 🇩🇰

    Best. War. Ever.

    Lol

First and only time i'll say this: I loved that war!! Hahaha

I appreciate why we negotiated a peace on that one, but come on, that was good fun

What do you mean not nice? I remember half a story where we tossed food to the enemy. That seems like a nice thing to do

And the enemy was never hungry again…

The Canadians fed them until the day they died.

I’ve always said: Canadians are polite, not nice and there is a very very big difference between the two.

A peaceful Canadian will say sorry

A fighting Canadian will make you sorry.

Geneva convention or as canada knows it, Geneva suggestions...

    Geneva checklist

It’s not a war crime if its the first time!

    Polite? Yes

    Nice? Debatable.

We have done some shit. We probably can again but I hope we don’t have to defend against the US.

Nobody else is attacking us or threatening to annex us except the US.

We are nice, but only to people who deserve it.

“AND THE WHITE HOUSE BURNED BURNED BURNED AND WE’RE THE ONES THAT DID IT

IT BURNED BURNED BURNED WHILE THE PRESIDENT RAN AND CRIED

IT BURNED BURNED BURNED AND THINGS WERE VERY HISTORICAL

And the Americans ran and cried like a bunch of little babies wah wah waaaahhhh

    In the War of 1812”

The War of 1812 - Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie

  • I'm from the UK and the Canadians have got a rep for being pretty hardy in a war, the kind of troops you want next to you not opposite

Canadian soldiers are routinely cross-trained to operate multiple weapons systems, radios, vehicles, and support tasks at lower ranks compared to their American counterparts; junior NCOs carry more responsibility earlier. In joint exercises, Canadian units consistently perform at or above allied standards, including alongside U.S. forces.

The American playbook is this, shock and awe, search and destroy, it's essentially the same as Russian doctrine, send the meat wall and hope for the best.

If you go through most of the wars the US has fought there's usually a bunch of Australians showing them how to actually do it properly.

Meanwhile, you’d want the US troops opposite you. They’d be less likely to kill you given there’s no chance of friendly fire.

    Ha. Sad but true.

I still remember when the US killed 4 Canadian soldiers and wounded 8 more in Afghanistan.

wouldnt surprise me if the yanks killed more allies soldiers in friendly fire than they killed taliban..

  • meh, the Netherlands sends us flowers every year for a reason. we don't need americans to think we're capable of fighting, the world knows what we did and have done. the world constantly opens their mouths saying how they feel about us and honestly... at this point american opinion is meaningless in comparison to the ocean of people who've spoken kindly about us.

Ironically, those people who see Canada and Canadians in a positive light have done something to learn about who we are. They read a book or watched a documentary about us. Most Americans would never. They assume we're as described by their media and social media influencers.

Carney leads the liberal party so he must be super leftist, when in reality, he's far right of Trudeau and isn't really a liberal at all. But nuance and facts are dead in the USA. What you feel and believe are the new facts and anything else is just fake news designed to dissuade you of the real truth.

Americans were dangerous when they were principaled xenophobes... Now, they're radioactive.

  • Canada is the only country, to my knowledge, to beat the USA not once, but twice. That aside, the list of war crimes was created to protect the world from Canadians!

  • Aw man, now I gotta tell my brother his career in the Air Force is a giant lie and doesn’t exist.

  • Ffs, why are they so stupid?

  • Daily reminder that Germany was afraid of Canada during WW2

  • Lmfao Carney saved Canada's economy during the 2008 crisis. He has a PhD in economics. He's no idiot

And Canada hasn't been any worse than most other countries. These rural Albertans never leave their homes, so they can't understand that. Those are the "Canadians" you see complaining

Carney did his PhD in Econ at Oxford in a little over two years. His thesis was lauded as being brilliant by his examiners and advisor.

Yeah like feel free to disagree with his policies, it's a democracy, but the man certainly has the credentials for the job.

It's not like we elected a man who managed to bankrupt a casino business.

Multiple casinos. And Trump University or whatever the fuck that gong show was called. And Trump Steaks, Trump Vodka, Trump Phones, etc. and so forth.

But yeah sure "tariffs make us rich!!" How anyone could ever think the Fanta Menace is a savvy businessman will always be a mystery to me.

  • On the plus side Americans are done with us.

  • Stuff like this has stopped being funny.

Have you heard the shite that’s been published by the US govt just this week? The whole thing where these actual fuckin Nazis are saying that Europe is facing ‘civilisation erasure’ due to immigration and multiculturalism. They’re openly proposing intervention to remove liberal democracies.

It’s not just pricks on the internet fulfilling Bannon’s ‘flood the zone with shit’ agenda…. The USA is blatantly a hostile state.

They’re going to be denying entry to the US anyone who has been partaking in fact checking and speaking up against lies and disinformation.

    It’s mental.

It is absolutely mental. Though I, for one, am not saddened by being denied entry into the USA, I know it matters for a lot of people who have family there. But the USA wasn't a place I wanted to visit before Trump... now it's a place I wouldn't even consider for a connecting flight.

  • Lol at calling Mark Carney a libtard. The man is a Tory in the vein of the Progressive Conservative Party at his most left

The literal only reason he fits in the Grits nowadays is the Torys have been dead federally since 2005, when Starscream threw an incapacitated Megatron out the side of Astrotrain Stephen Harper's Canadian Reform Alliance Party coup'd the Torys when merging with them then wearing their face like Ed Gein with his mom

It’s hilarious when they yell about a centre-right (at best) banker being a “communist”.

  • If Canadians have never been to war, then who were those people who liberated my country?

  • Canadians were extremely pivotal to the successes of ww1 and ww2.

  • When Canadian troops go to war, there is a new gathering in Geneva to update the conventions

  • I think I just hurt myself because I rolled by eyes too hard...

Typical delusional uneducated arrogant halfwit American that hasn't left their own country.

  • He know less than nothing about Canada, negative knowledge, and yet has so much confidence.

I mean, that’s kind of the theme with them, isn’t it?!

  • if Canada didn't fight in ww1 who committed warcrimes, then?

  • I recognize Canada's effort in WW1 and WW2 way more than I recognize the u.s's involvement. They only joined the war when it wasn't convenient to stay out and sell arms to both sides of the conflict

It’s super easy to join the winning side right at the end!

  • Canada. The country that did war so hard they caused the Geneva Conventions?

  • Sweet Jesus how surprised they would be when they find out that a SUBSTANTIAL amount of the Geneva convention was written BECAUSE of Canadians being too fierce to fight hahaha

  • Canadians are the war crime champions of the world…… they issued lacrosse sticks for recreation behind the lines in wwi. The Canadians discovered real quick that grenades fit quite nicely in them, and then they realized canned food does as well.

  • America has never won a war.

Omg not to Canadian myself but you saying this just made me realize something.

The US is the Toronto Maple Leafs of war. One of the biggest budgets possible and still can't close the deal.

  • I'm from Dutch province Zeeland. Canadians helped to liberate us in 1944. No USians to be seen.

  • Should have been on the beach at Dieppe with them in WWII. Canadians were in every branch of the services during WWII. My father served with them in the RAF too. He found them brave, tough and slightly mad. Great people to have by your side during a war.

  • We were knocking UBoats off the east coast while the US was still playing footsies with the Nazis.

  • Well Americans think they won ww1, ww2, Korea and both golf wars on their own. Can't wait for them to find reality.

  • As an American who moved to Canada 15 years ago, it's absolutely mind numbing to have these sorts of conversations. They'll tell your city is burning down and when you send them photos of everything looking perfectly fine they'll call you a liar.

They're so drenched in Fox News talking points they literally don't believe their own eyes anymore.

  • Playing devils advocate, but maybe they meant to say Canadians haven't started a war...?

  • I know this sub is supposed to be light-hearted, and just made for poking fun. But stuff like this legitimately makes my blood boil. How dare these arrogant and ignorant fucks disrespect my fallen countrymen like that.

  •  War of 1812. Against the US.

The US experiment turned out very bad. I think England should claim their rights and put the rebels where they belong. Maybe El Salvador can play ball.

  • They were so close to being self aware. So close.

  • Well on D-day, Canada achieved that day's objective first

  • Wait, they are talking about the same Canada that pretty much caused the Geneva Conventions right.

My grandfather served with a group from Canada in the RAF and said they were fucking nuts when it came to combat.

  • Ah yes, that was a fever dream where my husband was in Afghanistan in 2007.

  • Don't the US and Canada regularly run war games that Canada always wins?

  • How many times do we have to make the band kid "Geneva SUGGESTIONS!" jokes about war crimes and pissing on our own faces so we can run through gas before people will listen 😭

  • Imagine respecting the opinion of an American posting on social media regarding Canadian political analysis. Peak humour.

  • Man I wish I could see their expressions when they find out how much of the Geneva convention was written because of Canadians actions in war

  • I got nothing. The jokes just wrote themselves in this one. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • Damn, my grandfather must’ve made up all those stories about Italy. He’s such a joker. Even got his buddy, Farley, in on it.

  • Canadian forces were incredibly brave on D-Day. This is nonsense. They fought alongside British and US troops. They were in France in the First World War too.

  • My late uncle was an American. Every time he visited we’d drive by the Stoney Creek monument in Ontario. He’d say, every time, “look, that’s where the Canadians beat the sh1t out of the Americans. 🤣 I miss that wonderful man💕
