• Found another one who was homeschooled by a pigeon.

It's not just the homeschooled I'm afraid. American Exceptionalism is being rammed in their brains from an early age in "normal" schools as well. I was talking to an American once and he asked what grades I got in my US History class. I live in Europe. And yes, it was a serious question.

wait u don't learn whitewashed US history in your country? How will you learn about the US' massive victory over communism in vietnam?

Tbf, until you see the flag, the average Vietnamese city skyline would make you think the other side won.

How dare you denigrate pigeons 🤣

Exactly! They pioneered letter carrying and poop fertilization.

They also pioneered aspects of psychology

Ayy, that's an insult used often and I heard it on an EmKay video and that video was about THIS subreddit, I think!

I lived in a flat that had roof access, and there was a nest of pigeons.

    Pigeons are clever and lovely.

I think pigeons would be doing a better job than a lot of the humans in america right now.

    Don't insult pigeons like that.

  • What is the difference between yoghurt and the United States?

If you leave yoghurt alone for 200 years, it develops a culture.

Oh they developed a culture, it’s just we call it self fellatio

    Or “gun culture”

    Ammo-sexuals…

  • I think they might have confused “pioneered” with “misappropriated”.

They are also poor at pioneering in many ways. The FDA have crippled the development of both suncream and toothpaste (multiple new chemicals and filters are not allowed in America), because it is so backwards at accepting new technology, or rather it didn't receive the necessary bribes.

  • If Australia didn't invent, pioneer, or discover anything in technology, medicine, etc, then this person must live a life without wifi, feature films, refrigerators, car radios, digital music, dental braces, tanks, or even medical ultrasound, cochlear implants, spray on skin, and a swath of vaccines and antiviral breakthroughs.

Pretty shit world to live in, if you ask me.

House did you manage to leave goon out of the list?

Goon bags tied to a hills hoist is peak Australian culture & invention rolled into one

They've never played Goon of Fortune and it fucking shows.

Why am I not surprised that Australia pioneered a swath of vaccines and antiviral breakthroughs? lol

The first obstetric ultrasound was developed in Scotland. William Cullen designed the first mechanical fridge in 1755 in Scotland before the USA existed.

The first electric light bulb was also invented in Scotland, before Edison was even born, and while Joseph Swann was a child

Oh absolutely! And the first ultrasound imaging ever was done in Austria, Australians made the first commercially practical scanner, and USAians made the first generally commercially available ultrasound scanner after that.

All inventions build on previous works, it's the wonderful thing about science

America likes to try to take claim of the first feature film with a KKK propaganda film

    Kinder kuche kirche?

How do you figure Aussies invented tanks? That's a British invention. First tank, little Willie was a prototype that was developed into the mark I which first saw use in the Somme in WWI

    Very much a British invention

Can't discredit the rest though, plus, phenomenal death metal from Australia

Note I said pioneered or invented. I definitely wouldn't call tanks "very much a British invention" as the stepwise process that got to tanks was happening all over the continent, and several places had plans for tracked, armoured vehicles before WW1 - they just didn't see why they'd be necessary. Lancelot De Mole, Australian man of a truly amazing name, submitted plans to the British war office long before WW1 for true armoured tanks with caterpillar tracks. He had faced Western Australian terrain and understood no army could handle that.
He was recognised later by the British for being a pioneer.

To be fair, my saying "OOP would have to live without... Tanks..." Is a little dodgy, because tanks were being independently invented all over the world at the start of the very early 1900s. It's a natural progression of technology as it stood. But that applies to a few things on the list (like medical ultrasound, everyone was working on it). But we all like rhetorical flair for humour, don't we?

We call also thank them for shrimp...on a barby.

They were doing something with transporter technology a while back. I'm pretty sure they've perfected it and that's why there's usually at least one Australian in any vaguely popular pub in the UK. Wish they'd share it with the rest of us. My commute home from work (on the rare days I have to go in) is 1½-2 hours and involves a bus, a boat and a car. It would be nice to just zap home instantly.

  • Florrie was Australian, wasn't he? Or do Americans think they developed penicillin?

it was a Murician just like it was a Murician that solved the eniggma code I saw that i na movie

lol, I saw that same post a few minutes ago :-)

And Henry Ford who invented the car apparently

Yes I think Mr Benz would like a word, except that he is dead.

americans think they (Ford) invented the car.

When Ford didn't invent cars or nothing directly related to them, but a system of production line, that could have been used initially for other issues

The modern "production line" was pioneered in The Royal Dockyard Chatham in the early 1800's for the mass manufacture of pully blocks

It's sad I was actually taught that in school and only learned that was a lie a couple months ago when I was talking cars with someone.

And now close your eyes, take a deep breath in and out, and dare to ask yourself what other lies you were fed in school, university, and beyond…

Oh trust me I know there’s bound to be a lot.

Multiple people from around the world had massive impacts on developing shit like penicillin, tv, the phone etc but if one American contributed it’s automatically America that invented it.

Wasn’t penicillin discovered by accident or do I confuse it with another medication

Discovered by Alexander Fleming in a Petri dish, if I remember right he was just a messy bastard and had left it for ages. Then an Australian and German guy actually made it into a useable drug.

For the record that’s 3 people from 3 different countries involved in making penicillin and none of them were American.

Exactly. To say that Australians haven't made an impact on the world, when the development of penicillin is one of humanity's greatest milestones, is BS.

He discovered it, but didn't develop it into a drug that could be used.

Florey was Australian, but it was at Oxford.

Yes, I know. The point is he wasn't American.

Well it was a Scot that discovered penicillin. Alexander Fleming.

Which is why I said developed penicillin. There was a whole process of working out the chemical makeup and developing it into a usable drug which could be replicated in industrial quantities.

I'm sure I read a story somewhere that urine was collected from people who'd taken penicillin so that any excess could be extracted from the urine to be used again. That's how scarce it was in the early days.

    • Cochlear Implant (Bionic Ear): Professor Graeme Clark developed the first successful implant in 1978, giving hearing to profoundly deaf individuals.
    • HPV Vaccine (Gardasil): Ian Frazer and Jian Zhou developed the technology for the vaccine that prevents cervical cancer.
    • Penicillin Application: Howard Florey led the team that purified penicillin and demonstrated its use as a life-saving antibiotic in the 1940s.
    • Spray-On Skin: Co-invented by Professor Fiona Wood, this technology culturing a patient's own skin cells can be sprayed onto burns, speeding healing.
    • Ultrasound Scanner: A crucial diagnostic tool, the ultrasound scanner was developed by Australian researchers.
    • Electronic Pacemaker: An early portable pacemaker was created by Dr. Mark Lidwill and Edgar Booth in 1926 to revive a stillborn baby.
    • Plastic Spectacle Lenses: The first plastic lenses for glasses were an Australian innovation.
    • Helicobacter Pylori Discovery: Barry Marshall and Robin Warren identified this bacterium as the cause of stomach ulcers, earning them a Nobel Prize.
    • Anti-Flu Drug (Relenza): An effective antiviral for influenza developed by Australian researchers.

  • America also pioneered pioneering.

  • Funny part that even if we talk very recently, than for example Bluey cartoon was made in Australia, and it's so popular in USA, that there noticeable changes in English accent of kids and some adults, so I guess Australia is pioneering American culture right now

Bluey is genuinely one of the best if not THE best children's show ever made. I love it, it has helped me become a better parent. Bandit is such a loving father that I actively try to emulate him.

  • Well we pioneered Wifi which they simultaneoulsly cant live without, and constantly think it refers to any form of wireless tech

  • How the heck do you pioneer culture? Or they mean that part where the pioneers killed American Indians and stuff…

They are, of course, referring to US culture. The only relevant and existing culture from their point of view.

Culture in the same sense as the Roman Empire - "we have culture, everyone else has savage barbarian superstitions"

Every immigrant brought their own culture to the US and they amalgamated it, that isn’t creating culture. The thing that Americans do best is exceptionalism, but that is based more on stupidity than anything else.

  • Culture didn’t exist before the USA. I forgot.

Yeh, when the US was founded, they sent out a shit ton of people to do cave paintings, the pyramids, castles etc etc. Quite industrious, to go all over the world that fast.

  • America pioneered science and technology?

I don't recall there being a single human in the Americas when the first stone tools were invented more than 3 million years ago.

Yes science was well established long before America existed and just about everything they claim was invented there was done somewhere else. Computers for example were invented by Charles Babbage, and software by his assistant Ada Lovelace.

  • Isn't the WiFi an Australian invention? It's pretty significant I'd say.

  • It's an interesting counterfactual: in an alternate timeline where the nazis do not gain power, and all the smart people stay in Europe instead of fleeing to the US, I don't think the USA would have taken the leaps it did during and after WWII. So many people with German surnames in key areas of scientific development!

Operation paper clip turned out to be incredibly valuable

  • How can someone be so f**king deluded.

  • Well, they've been a few thousand years late for any of that

  • The biggest mistake Australia made was licensing wifi to American companies, reducing the barrier for these fuckwits to connect to the internet.

  • WiFi, spray on skin, cochlear implants, pacemakers, electric drills, rotary lawn mowers, winged keel yachts. UGG boots, polymer bank notes, black-box flight recorders & sline.liferafts on aircraft, Google maps, medical application of penicillin, permaculture, ultrasound scanners, plastic spectacle lenses, permanent crease clothing, anti cancer vaccines, Frazier photographic lenses, racecam, tank-bred tuna systems, grain stripper machines, refrigerators, secret ballot voting, 8/8/8 working days, Granny Smith apple variety, torpedo, the box kite, notepads, the first feature length film, spun concrete pipes, surfskis & surf lifesaving reels, Mark 1 war tank design, car radios, pedal two-way radios, Aerial ambulance, letter sorting machine, clapperboards, utility/pickup/c oupe vehicle, Braille printing press, solar hot water system, self constructing tower crane, latex gloves. wave piercing catamaran, baby safety capsule. anti hacking software and many other inventions, didn't originate in USA but in Australia.

  • America isn't old enough to have pioneered anything, barely 3 human lifetimes old and already claiming that all the tech they imported or that immigrants took with them is theirs

I guess they are #1 (at stolen valor)

  • A bottle of Yakult got more culture than USA, israel, singapore put together

The Malaysian complaining Singapore not enough culture. You Mahathir’s son or something? Need to out of nowhere shit on Singapore.

Lol, imagine being really butthurt to a shitpost comment. So its true singaporean really uptight.

The post had nothing to do with Singapore. Imagine being xenophobic for no reason at all. So it's true you are xenophobic.

  • If I were going to be mean I'd say that Australians pioneered naval landings at Gallipoli so Americans could later have their D-Day which they are so proud of, but I don't know if that's historically accurate.

  • What culture? The culture of mobility scooters?

  • I have absolute faith in that statement being extensively and utterly disproven to the point where any rebuttal sound like a mouse farting in a hurricane

  • Canada would take away America’s insulin for such insolence but we weren’t so avaricious as to patent a life saving process as creating artificial insulin.

  • In Australia on election day you get a hot dog. In the US on election day you don't even get the day off.

We do NOT get a hot dog. We get a sausage in bread. Not the same. Also, we don't automatically get the say off but the election is at least always on a Saturday, not in the standard work week.

I apologize to the nation of Australia for my foolishness.

  • Educate me on American "Culture"

  • Don't mind us, we are just pioneering something that was already pioneered a LONG time before we existed. So basically I am stealing shit from other countries like I am the British Empire.

  • None of that is true. Queue billy Madison meme

  • American has the most Nobel prizes in physics and research and development being rampant in the country.
