Now I'm remembering a video of a woman bragging, for some reason, her babies first word was Coke. For context it was back when they changed the recipe and people went mad
The problem is, for every American self aware enough to say something like this as satire, there seems to be another three that legitimately believe something even stupider.
The inherent weakness of satire is that it requires there to be enough space beyond the actual reality of the subject for there to be a clear gap between the satire and the reality.
99% sure it is.
Walkable cities are a hot topic now all over the world, and you see USians complain their zoning system needs changing a lot these days, also often complaining about city centers that have become car parks.
Quite sure this is satire.
As ChatGPT told me 5 mins ago (and it must know :-)) in another matter: Without knowing author and context, identifying satire is very difficult... :-D
I dunno, if it was satire I think I would choose a street without parked cars. It's kinda like they said that this nice looking street is ruined by all the parked cars, unlike in the US where there is space to park all our cars and still have wide-streets to drive on, kinda forgetting that cars or no cars, medieval streets are pretty and interesting in a way that you'll never see in the US (not to slag the US, but there aren't many medieval streets for obvious reasons).
Meanwhile… the people who live there will wander joyously down to the bakery for some superb handcrafted bread, hang out for a while at their friendly local cafeteria for some expertly brewed craft coffee… then sit and disbelievingly discuss why Americans have elected a rude makeup-wearing ignoramus as President.
Even more. This is in Regensburg, Germany and the church in the back is the St. Kassian church and it was first mentioned in 885. So i think this street is probably as old as the church
This is the Malergasse in the region of the old town of the old roman fort, and it roughly follows one of the Roman roads, but not exactly. Most likely it dates to around 4th/5th century AD, when the last roman soldiers left after the Germanic raids, and Germanic people began settling in the ruins and surrounding city.
As a European, I also find most old towns suffocating and avoid them. Always noisy, always crowded, normally not nearly as beautiful as people describe them.
The level of idiciocy. Congratulations , the European engineers that built USA from de ground up learned to avoid the growing pains of centuries of evolution in traffic.
Variations of that joke have been around for years. I've heard "why was the castle built so close to the motorway?" It's one of those things that has various supposed origins and very possibly didn't actually happen.
I heard one asking why they built "the stupid castle" on top of a hill instead of down on the field. I had the delight teaching him about height advantage and siege-craft.
Are you sure this isn't satire?

I live in a very old neighborhood, detached houses for the most but no driveways and people lose their shit when they find out. It's very funny to me.
Since I was about to post something hateful and toxic about my fellow American tourists, and got a Reddit warning, I won’t do that. But you’re right💯
Gotta protect the snowflakes AKA americans...
Love Reddit warnings 🤣
Damn...nearly turned xenophobic...

Fr, I need a Coke now. :c
I'm an obese USian. I still walk, and it's probably helping me lose weight. I'm a bus driver.
Not sure that type of person would visit Regensburg, far less leave their sofa.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say this is tongue in cheek.
I am hoping it’s tongue in cheek. Otherwise i despair of humanity
Now I'm remembering a video of a woman bragging, for some reason, her babies first word was Coke. For context it was back when they changed the recipe and people went mad
Poe's Law hits very hard
and it's funny as hell when some prick comes along telling us they know for certain which side of the divide the current post lies on
Na, the USA is a real place, not a satire, sadly
Two Things can be true at the same time
It mentions zoning laws. It must be satire.
The sad thing nowadays is that you cannot tell for sure.
I saw this and immediately thought satire as well.
Or just sarcasm.
The only thing bad here is that the street is not properly pedestrianized. Cars shouldn't be there.
It is going to be pedestrianized in the next couple of years. Pedestrianisation was long planned but the conservatives delayed things.
The problem is, for every American self aware enough to say something like this as satire, there seems to be another three that legitimately believe something even stupider.
The inherent weakness of satire is that it requires there to be enough space beyond the actual reality of the subject for there to be a clear gap between the satire and the reality.
Are you sure any of the stuff in this sub is not satire?
99% sure it is.
Walkable cities are a hot topic now all over the world, and you see USians complain their zoning system needs changing a lot these days, also often complaining about city centers that have become car parks.
Quite sure this is satire.
That's most tragic thing, that we can't be sure.
I’m pretty sure this is 11/10 ragebait
As ChatGPT told me 5 mins ago (and it must know :-)) in another matter: Without knowing author and context, identifying satire is very difficult... :-D
You needed to be told that by chatgpt? Did you not learn about satire in school?
He said, ironically.
I think the comment is ironic /s
Sorry for you, that your very own satire-detector has such a bad trigger. :-D
I think that's satire tbh
I dunno, if it was satire I think I would choose a street without parked cars. It’s not even satire, it’s just sarcasm.
Probably meant as satire, but the crazies will run with this regardless.
Yea, buddy, don't know how to tell you. Your irony detector is misaligned.
well, we have 2025.... almost everything is possible.
I hope it's satire as that looks amazing
It is actually sarcasm
Could use some green instead of parked cars
Clearly a joke
Oh no i can't take my 8000 pounds truck to buy some bread 3/4 of a football stade away.
Come on, you can hardly call that bread.
“Reconstructed wheat based product”
In EU terms, it may qualify as dessert.
it's basically shit brioche
Even cack brioche is better than USian bread-like product (tm)
Carbohydrate-based foam pillow?
Hey mods - this is obviously meant satirically.
Heh...that sounds like small country town 'straya.
😉🤙
Please, I think that street alone pre-dates the US by at least two centuries. XD
Even more. This is in Regensburg, Germany and the church in the back is the St. Kassian church and it was first mentioned in 885. So i think this street is probably as old as the church
So five centuries then. I was close.
What year do you think it is?
See my disclaimer I just posted.
Ah! Columbus
*9 centuries
Okay, so disclaimer, I counted up to 1492 for some reason instead of 1776.
about 9 centuries

Its amazing that in all that time they haven't found any american engineers to fix it
Curtis LeMay of the USAAF had a go in 1943 (but mostly just fixed the Messerschmidt factory).
They tried. In the 60s and 70s there were plans to build a 6 lane motorway through the city.
Awful, will nobody think of the oil companies and car manufacturers.
I agree, those ugly cars ruin that lovely street.
This is definitely a joke by someone who supports walkable cities
Gotta be fake.
While this post is dripping of satire, you know there’s someone somewhere who looks at this and thinks “damn he’s right. They don’t have yards, ffs.”
It's a compliment, people, c'mon.
They have the benefit that most of the homes built are made from twigs so don't tend to be older than automobiles
Walkable city = Urban hellscape.
I pray for my sanity this is satire
street has more history than the US
I used to deliver shipments with a UPS P600 van in roads like this. Americans just cannot drive.
As opposed to this little slice of paradise that, as you can see, literally stretches past the horizon.

Fine, anything that puts Septic tourists off coming here is a good thing.
I'm pretty sure theyre being sarcastic
I hate cobbles. They fuck up my back when I'm in my wheelchair :( Otherwise I'm usually quite happy with medieval streets, fewer cars to dodge.
I regret to inform you of this but the local university (Start of construction: 1962) uses cobblestone paving in the central building. INSIDE
obvious sarcasm befounds reddit once again
Sarcasm detector fail.
I love that view, this must be a joke...
it's a cobbled street not a shanty town
Funny to say, those streets and buildings could be easily older then the whole of the USA!
big truck=prosperity
What's up with the random Thailand flag?
Thai restaurant or massage parlour usually.
‘Can’t have stupid pedestrians on my road, they’re for cars!’
I refuse to believe they aren’t being sarcastic. That street is beautiful compared to the flatpack streets in America.
Not sure if I know that town since the licence plate says Regensburg. So I'm gonna go for a walk to (possibly) find it next weekend.
If you don't mind spoilers it is Malergasse 13-ish
I didn't mind 🫶🏼
I for one am praying my quiet little German town gets gunshot monitoring systems, the horrific hellscape it is.
As a European, I also find most old towns suffocating and avoid them. Always noisy, always crowded, normally not nearly as beautiful as people describe them.
Not like these roads have existed before America was even founded
Pretty sure this is satire
The level of idiciocy. Congratulations , the European engineers that built USA from de ground up learned to avoid the growing pains of centuries of evolution in traffic.
I was in Riyadh recently which is a whole city built around American cars (or some it seems)
All the roads are gigantic multi lane highways and getting absolutely anywhere is a complete nightmare.
Wut? This guy huffing glue?
Yet the houses are probably older than the USA, let alone 'zoning codes'.
I volunteer to live in this urban hellscape!
Low level trolling
They're only jealous of our hellscapes, lol...

Augustijnenkaai, Prinsenhof, Ghent, Belgium.
Those cobbles are probably older than America
But didn't some tour guide get asked by an American.. why a Castle was built so close to an Airport..
Because Americans can be that dumb..
Variations of that joke have been around for years. I've heard "why was the castle built so close to the motorway?" It's one of those things that has various supposed origins and very possibly didn't actually happen.
Because the kings 400 years ago didn't want to be tired before their flights of course.
I heard one asking why they built "the stupid castle" on top of a hill instead of down on the field. I had the delight teaching him about height advantage and siege-craft.
You'd think a war minded people would understand that.. 😅🤣
TBF, permanent fortifications hasn't been in vogue since the start of WW2.
I am honestly ashamed sometimes of this subreddit, as it proves that europeans are sometimes as ignorant and dense as the americans it makes fun of.
Sometime I feel like half this sub is people falling for the most obvious satire ever
