I was trying to do a Professor Oak challenge and then bump into a striped orange critter, then NEXT ENCOUNTER IS A PURPLE WORM. This was all done on a legitimate copy of Pokemon Emerald on an SP so I am rightfully still shaking

sounds like you got an early shiny seed, that should be great for hunting rayquaza if you choose to
I'm doing a professor Oak challenge but shiny rayquaza would be a sick ending to it
i think the way shiny hunting works in emerald is when you first turn on your game a timer starts and it has certain time frames where if you run into a pokemon it’ll be shiny, since you got 2 so soon you probably have an early frame for shinys, so i think if you turn off your game and turn it back on that timer should restart and you could farm shinies every route
Congrats! Each Shiny is a 1 out of 8192 chance, but I don't know what specifically getting one after the other would be if that can be calculated. EDIT: According to the internet, the odds of a back to back Shiny in this generation and those like it is 1 out of 67,108,864!!! Super CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Wonder which evolution that Wurmple might be? Shiny Beautifly is gorgeous, and Dustox's is an interesting color change...
