• Welcome to /r/ShermanPosting!

As a reminder, this meme sub is about the American Civil War. We're not here to insult southerners or the American South, but rather to have a laugh at the failed Confederate insurrection and those that chose to represent it.

  • There are Phish songs that are longer than the Confederacy lasted.

  • Phish is part of my heritage, man.

Yea I’m totally not named after the singer…

  • Tangerine Dream is 58 years old and I want a statue of Edgare Froese!

  • Nirvana lasted for 7 years so we need to build statues of Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic

Guns N Roses has lasted longer than that so we also need to have statues of Axl Rose, Slash, Duff McKagan and all the other members

Most music ever since the 60s are inspired by the Beatles and the Beatles lasted longer than the Confederacy so we need statues of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr (yes they're not American but I feel like most people on this sub would rather have statues of people who weren't born here over people who were born here but were slaveholders)

TL;DR: we need more statues of members of Bands and they should replace statues of slaveholders

Id love a US with random statues of/buildings named after musicians all over the place lol the middle of nowhere in like Tennessee getting directions “… then you’re gonna wanna take a right at the big Smokey Robinson statue. If you see Tom Petty University, you’ve gone too far.”

  • The Confederacy lasted 4 years. They definitely don't deserve any more time than they had.

How many months? They may have rounded

    4 years 3 months... February 1861 to May 1865

  • The Dead Kennedys original run was 8 years, I say we make a statue of Jello Biafra out of Jello

  • Phish was founded in the city of Burlington, VT. Vermont was a republic for 3x as long as the CSA existed.

  • While I agree in principle to this post, I cant recommend building statues to the band. I dont like jam bands.

Ever listen to their first studio album?

  • Not my cup of tea music-wise, but I fully support this. Trey is also a super fan of the New York Jets, so he (like me) has suffered and deserves an award

  • I hate Phish, and I endorse this message. Because I hate the confederacy infinitely more.

  • Too bad most Phish fans would side with the confederacy

  • I like dunking on the Confederacy as well, but can we get past this kind of post? Just because it existed for longer doesn’t mean it has more relevancy. Also, this type of post is very much overdone.

  • Dixie is a better song than anything Phish has released

  • Obligatory confederacy is bad but this strain of argument/meme, and particularly this argument "something is more important if it last longer" is not good and cheapens justified criticism of the confederacy. I get that it the point of it is to make the confederacy feel insignificant so apologists feel unjustified for their "heritage." But there are trash heaps and pond water and countless things that have lasted a long time that don't matter and plenty of things that have lasted very short amounts of time that do. Should we make statues of pond water? Taking this meme seriously is absurd, and makes it seem like satire and actually confederate apologia.

I take the original point of this vein of criticism is to say "the confederacy itself isn't really much of a heritage if it only lasted five years." Fine point. But I think its spun away from it's original meaning and posts like this make that clear.
