Because the Ranger was way more popular and they produced this version with Mazda for a very very long time. They are also cheap and easy to fix. The demographic that usually buys them is going to do more of their own maintenance on it than the Buick owners too to keep it on the road.
There are just so many around in varying states of condition.
Plus, on Frame construction vs a unibody sedan is no contest in terms of longevity.
I prefer ones with better production value. They're all pieces of art though. The selection of the base model Ranger here kind of sets the tone for the rest of the piece.

I had a Buick century. We put that fucker through hell but it kept running. Drove it until the steering wheel came off while I was driving it.

Had one for 23 years. 2002 always ran great. Barely any mechanical issues ,one I think. Still runs I gave it to my son.
