• 💛 I'm so sorry. This disease is heartbreaking impossible.

  • See if you can get him on the long last injection.

This is such an awful disease. I'd be exhausted too if I was him. And your family too.

I hope things get better but there are no promises. The suicide rate here is high because it's just so fucking awful to live with.

I second this. Him being in the facility is an opportunity. If you’re in the US, him being there for 10 days means that they have converted the initial three day hold to an extended hold and he had to have a hearing to do that. Judge has agreed that this person is a danger to themselves and needs to stay in the facility.

As a family, this may be your one opportunity to say that he cannot be discharged back into your care without being on an injectable.

Also, I think these resources will be really helpful.

  • Don't set yourself on fire to keep someone else warm.

If he is not willing to take medication, therapy, etc. - you're just running on a treadmill and you will tire out before he does. I made the most progress with my son by throwing up my hands and letting him hit "rock bottom."

There are times when that is appropriate, and I’ve had to do it myself. However, when someone is actively suicidal, I think there will be only one conclusion to that course of action.
