This is so weird. r/Columbo fans are really interested n the locations seen on the show and just yesterday I made a post and noted that this was the building in the background!
My absolute favorite building in all of Santa Monica. Iconic and timeless. Something about the smooth edges just seem so visually pleasing to the eye, especially on a sunset.
In the opening credits, Harry O gets off a Big Blue Bus in front of 200 Wilshire. There was at least one Harry O episode that featured someone with an office there.
The scuttlebutt I heard was that Lawrence Welk built that building, and by the time SM found out it was going to be much taller than zoning allowed, they decided to let Larry finish it.

Columbo: Sex And The Married Detective (1989), Dr. Joan Allenby's business.
It’s also widely recognizable with it being in GTA 5.
That I watched it go up while attending pre school at nearby first pres might be my biggest claim to old timer status.
