It’s to help the public navigate to the Pier via alternate routes when the city starts reconstructing the bridge. There will be a temporary pedestrian bridge in the same place as the current bridge, but the city also wants people to use the ped bridges over PCH and the sidewalks down to ocean front walk. https://www.santamonica.gov/programs/pier-bridge-improvements
Santa Monica’s “broke,” yet there’s always money for the unnecessary: 1-2 hours-long “Studio 66” podcasts only the 3 people that asked for them listen to, fresh PD vehicle decals complete with a pier wheel and coaster, and this new relentless “SaMo” rebrand out of the new CMs office, did anyone let him know that’s what the locals call the high school? What about needed expenses like the way overdue signs at ped scrambles for “No Turn on Red”, or launching the super late permit system that could have probably been vibe coded by a SaMo junior in 4 days
Huh? SaMo has been a nick name for the city for ages. Yes it can also refer to the high school, but only in the context of already talking about schools otherwise you’d say SaMo High.
If the locals are calling it SaMo now… maybe it will stick I think the problem is, and you can hear it when it’s spoken by city staff versus city council video, in that city instagram sizzle reel whether it’s “SAM-O” or “SAY-MO”
They’re also on California and all they do is point towards the water
Hopefully they’ll be more effective than the “dismount bicycles and scooters” on all the sidewalks.
Totally unnecessary
I agree, they’re ugly

So you must think the relentless ‘SoCal’ rebrand is pretty stupid too, huh?

SaMo is the high school: https://www.reddit.com/r/SantaMonica/s/ehdnj1H7fe
Someone called us “the SanMo” 🙄
Bizzare. Grew up in sunset park and consistently called the city SaMo in the oughts

SAY-MO hurts
For what???
Maybe for when the Olympics are here in 2028?
