I thought the dodgers thing was a great idea. As this. The promenade use to be a great night destination, then it rot. Great job bringing it back. Excited for the future of 3rd st. Bring back 3rd St.
The city council voted to approve exactly that just last week! Combined with the monthly events in their Renaissance plan, it might just be on the comeback.
This is good news. It's expensive for businesses to rent there, I'm sure of it. The foot traffic went away, because everybody is addicted to online shopping, so utilizing the space and the area around it for events and such seems like a foolproof plan to bring day tourists in and keep them buzzing around.
Sporadic spectacles do not rebuild a retail scene. Once the holiday season is over, the Promenade will be back to pressure washers and street screamers until the next big name activation.
The Promenade was built for buskers and walking, not gathering in front of screens and lasers one night a month.
Every event that is happening at the Promenade and SMP makes me so happy. It's so good to see people out and about and enjoying the city. Thank you for doing this!
Thank you for the gratitude. I will share this with our partners! The people involved are pulling this together in a way that can keep it self sustaining, that way it avoids the big splashy sponsors. Sure, we’ll get a Budweiser or Aperol in there with their logos, cups and swag, but our overarching goal is to create affordable entertainment within the Entertainment Zone.
Access to the arts and music will be free. Special event seating, concessions and add on experiences would be charged. It’s an evolving model leveraging hyper local talent and partners. It supports a thriving downtown economy; a place we desperately need to achieve.
All good news! BTW I appreciate that you appear to be working on a diverse array of things too - I appreciated the 150th anniversary street fair and Rapp Saloon open house last weekend for example.
Thank you! We had a small team working with the city on the 150th, and the city’s Cultural Affairs Division took the lead. It was a great pilot for future Cultural Affairs activations.
The Rapp Saloon is independent, but we help support them through promotion, security, cleaning of public space, and hospitality ambassadorship.
We’re working on live music, more DJs, cultural programming and more. I think 2026 will be a good year for local events. I’m not sure I’ll travel too far east of Lincoln this year.
Laws, police presence, people’s Safety and security is key!!!!! Not until city police and city council start arresting drug dealers, and violent offenders and enforcing no camping in local parks, stop their free needle exchange program of drugged individuals and change their laws will it ever change. They have been trying to make it look lively since train opened years ago, and people know the truth and stay away!!!!!
We’re still working that out, figuring out who’s taking the lead. This is a production developing with multiple partners sharing the cost of production. I hope to have some materials and socials for folks in the coming weeks. The next similar events will be as early as mid January or as late as mid February; we’re working through some details now.
Oh, for sure. This is a pilot project; we're testing, tweaking and refining. We had about 2,000 people come out. Because this is part of the entertainment zone, we have to ensure our guest attendance to security ratio is balanced. We're testing how social platforms perform to get the most bang for our buck. I'll be posting more frequently in the r/SantaMonica feed. The City of Santa Monica is developing a comprehensive calendar of all events, and my nonprofit is creating a calendar explicitly focused on downtown.
They had some really good live music a few weeks or months ago, she was playing an acoustic guitar and it was amazing. Really nice mellow vibes for the mid week. Pretty good turn out
Who's ever asking where to meet people at SM? Here's your answer and opportunity. xD
This year I find myself reading posts about "Where to meet new people?" on the thread and most people just need to look on socials medias about hangouts and speed dating dates. It really is not that difficult.
Dang this is cool but the music is pretty terrible. We live in one of the 5 greatest dance music capitals of the world and the best we can make happen here is bottom of the barrel tech house from 15 years ago?
they should program more events on the Promenade. Maybe that's the key to it making a comeback.
Seemed like Dodgers watchalongs were a hit in Oct/Nov. Agreed. Hopefully they keep doing stuff.
I did the watch parties, and co-produced tonight’s event. We’re developing some new partnerships.
where can we stay up to date on these?
It's in development now. Keep checking r/SantaMonica as I'll be posting here more frequently.
I can confirm as a mod that we encourage posting of locally-produced free public events

I’m working on it!
Please know how much it is appreciated. The reactivation of The Promenade matters to our entire city. Great days are ahead!

Wish I had known and I would’ve come too! How can I stay up to date on future events?
Stay tuned here. While I did not post this one, it’s in my plans to post here regularly. We’re working on a series and will have socials planned soon.
Is there a social media page we can follow?

I too would like to know!
Need more notice! Market this more! Cool

If the neighbors can hear the bass you’re in the right place. 🔥
Love seeing energy on the Promenade
I want more of this! Live in Little Tokyo now but growing up 3rd was so freaking vibrant.
Honestly feel sad when I pass by visiting my parents, it just feels dead to me especially remembering how it was.
The House/Techno theme is Awesome! Bummer I missed it.
Stay tuned in r/SantaMonica and I'll post the next one we plan.
WORD!!!!!
What's this
We’re having a little party on the Prom. We’re planning more.
Oh the hanukkah
Such a good crowd!
We were on the Promenade tonight and it was really bustling and lively! Lots of families out. Felt great!
That’s great to hear! The energy has been good lately.
Aww rats. I walked through this after dinner while they were cleaning up. Missed it by 20 mins.
So awesome. Let's get some DJ sets!!
Untz Untz Untz
Any chance there would ever be live music here?
Yes, that’s a real possibility. I’m working on a couple possibilities for Feb/March programming
Came to see Kelland. He did not disappoint
No kidding! I was moving.

I was there last year ! 😍😍

NIMBYs on NextDoor and FB told me Santa Monica is full of zombie homeless!!!
Not tonight!

It plays well to a specific market, and people had fun. We support a wide variety of events and activations.
