Explore the richest suburbs in the U.S., where high incomes and million-dollar homes make these neighborhoods some of the most desirable places to live
Move over, New York, L.A., Chicago, and Miami—wealthy Americans are trading big-city life for quieter, upscale suburbs like Scarsdale, Calabasas, and Palm Beach.
Which suburbs do the wealthiest Americans call home? To find out, ProfessPost analyzed cities with at least 5,000 households and identified the 50 with the highest average household incomes. Then, 2024 home values and metro locations were added to pinpoint the richest suburbs in the country.
Scarsdale, New York, ranks as the wealthiest suburb in the United States, with an average household income of $568,942 and a typical home value of $1.4 million. California dominated the list, landing 16 suburbs in the top 50. Among them, the five most expensive are Los Altos ($400,000), Orinda ($370,000), Palos Verdes Estates ($342,000), Saratoga ($329,000), and Menlo Park ($316,000), highlighting the state’s strong concentration of high-income communities.
When comparing coasts, the East Coast came out on top with 23 suburbs making the list—five from New York and five from New Jersey. The West Coast followed with 19 suburbs represented.
