Just got a copy of Pirates! Gold. I have a habit of changing the old save batteries on game cartridges as soon as I get them and found that this cartridge in particular had a battery that's rusting in one terminal. I cleaned it up and changed the battery right away.
(I have never played Sid Meier's Pirates! so I have no idea what I'm doing in this game lol. Graphics are really nice though.)
Alright so you have yourself for my money the number 1 game on genesis. Here are some tips, but its more fun to find out
start on apprentice, its still hard and its the most forgiving level, also the default time period is best and be english.
find an instruction guide, it will have almost all the information you need
complete the pirate quests, but focus on earning alot of money, get a huge crew, plunder lots then kill them off to make your portion better
keep a fleet of smaller ships so you can head south from Barbados, plunder Spanish towns then return to Barbados area to sell your goods and decide plunder, gather your crew there when you start as well after grabbing a few Spanish or Dutch ships. France is your buddy, even if the English are at war, you want a high rank with England and France
its all about pirate points at the end, thats how you win, you could be a kings advisor or a homeless drunk.
I could go on, but yhat gets you started on the gem of all gems Pirates Gold. im frigging jealous, I wish I had never played it

gotcha, genesis got som great platforms too. its an enjoyable game if you stick with it, your post made me want to start checking my batteries 😱
