Would you rather have $500k right now or $1,000 every time you run one mile in less than 12 minutes for the rest of your life?
  • 257 points snatch_hugger

It's a trick question obviously, running a mile in less than 12 minutes is far too fast and you'd probably die soon after from over exertion.

I ran under 12 mins once and my wife left me for her boyfriend

    parent root
    10 points No-Vanilla2468

Probably married that guy and got a new faster boyfriend. Everyone shifted over one position

    parent root
    10 points _Presence_

It’s not because you were under 12min, it’s because you left zone 2.

    parent root
    7 points bryethegr8

My apologies that’s correct. That run left long term neurological damage.

Last time I ran a 12min mile there was a flash and I got transported 100 years into the past.

    parent root
    2 points Plastic-Lobster5662

Funny. I did that and got transported into future

    parent root
    2 points Ophiochos

I ran a mile recently and got transported about ten minutes into the future. Not very fit. Was also sweaty, weird.

It depends whether you run east to west or west to east. Time travel is always relative to timezones. That's where the advice not to leave zone 2 comes from originally.

    Obvious.

It's actually pretty much a fantasy for every middle-aged runner. My running isn't a distraction from work and family -- no, I'm out there earning $5000/hour!

I love the idea of finding out little Jane needs braces, the baby has a cough, the car needs new tires, etc. so I (Dad) put on my running tights, Ciele hat and headlamp, then head out into a dark, snowy night to support the family.

They should start offering these for anyone who can run a mile in less than 12 mins.

Don’t be such a jerk, not everyone is an elite athlete throwing down sub 12 minute miles. We all can’t be putting down sub 40min 5k ultras like the pros.

$1000, and that mile will be the rest of my life

    parent
  • 21 points onceandfuturecpuk

A 12 minute one mile ultra is basically impossible without investing $1100 in vaporflys and Gu, so obviously if you don’t want to lose money you take the upfront 500k and invest it in AI.

    parent
    6 points Western_Aerie3686

That would be great! strava athlete intelligence does have a couple things it could improve on.  Thank you for your philanthropy!

  • 12 points zilch839

Fuck, that'd be like $3,100 every marathon.

    parent
  • 11 points lukster260

Running that fast obviously isn't possible for anyone but the elitest of the elite, so obvs going with the $500k.

See you at my next 5k ultra where I try to break sub-15 minute mile average pace!

Does that happen? I might need to check with my wife's boyfriend if they are fucking (especially as I saw them naked and sweaty) but he said they were just massaging each other. So maybe check with your wife's boyfriend. It may just be a misunderstanding.

While 3 miles a day is a good plan, you'll get up to far higher mileage with periodisation and rest days. You could quite comfortably only run 3 days a week and hit the same mileage. Or do 5 days with down weeks and hit much higher figures.

My current training plan is a 6 month build and will see me completing around 1,200 miles... and I'm doing that with a full time job and a toddler.

500k, I need that money to pay off student loans, buy a decent new car and have a nice chunk for a house.

    parent
  • 1 points merkis

I'd take the latter even if it was 7 minute miles. Even if someone can't do a 7 minute mile today, with enough training, it's achievable for anyone. Run a 7 minute mile per day and you got yourself a $365k job. If you run a 7 minute mile every day, you will get to a fitness level where you can do multiple 7 min miles per day easily. Sign me up! So... where do I start collecting these checks?

I'd do that and just get Kipchoge to mule for me for $500 per mile.

    parent
  • 1 points Interesting_Shake403

As a runner, serious question: if I run 6 miles in an hour (faster pace for each mile), is that one time ($1000) or 6 ($6000)?

Former, sold - I’ll hit it in a year, and after that it’s all gravy. Latter, I’ll take the $500k and invest it and make more money.

I'll only have to run for 10 years and I've made my money, this is a no brainer.

    parent
  • 0 points RunningonGin0323

Lmao. A 12 min mile would feel like walking to me and considering I've run 4,933 miles just this year all under 12 mins a mile. I would have 4.9 mil just this year. Easy choice
