In my view, almost certainly a personal welfare concern by police. And probably rightly so.
Fella had everything from birth, now has nothing. No more mummy to protect him. Brother is in charge and not a fan. Best mate topped himself or similar. Best mate was a known paedophile. You are suspected of being the same. Evidence to solidify the 'suspected' is tantalisingly close to being released and in a big way. Your life as you know it is over. And you're too famous to slink back into a 'normal job' even if you wanted to.
And there's a shotgun and cartridge in the metaphorical (1) corner.
As part of the conditions of firearm and shotgun ownership in the UK, the police CAN and obviously DO just turn up to check stuff out. They CAN and DO remove your certificate at the drop of a hat. The first you know about this may well be the moment an FEO (2) turns up at your house to deliver the news you can't shoot anymore, and that you'll be handing over the guns there and then.
Police may have had a tip off from someone close to him. The chief constable may have simply thought he'd get ahead of any major negative press if he did off himself. Either way, he can't (3) any more.
He apparently used to host hugely popular hunting weekends. Another way to win friends and influence people. Wondered if he would still be allowed to continue this.
I have so many questions, Do they need firearm licenses to join shooting parties? does this mean they all have it? what about the younger ones? I think there have been photos of younger royals shooting before (not the current minors but some of the older ones)
You can indeed shoot on private land if you don’t have a license. The shotgun certificate and firearm certificate allow you to own and keep guns and ammunitions.
In the UK, firearms are heavily restricted and there are only a few legal justifications to own one, including hunting and competition shooting.
Hunting in the UK is pretty much reserved for the wealthy/royals since you need permission from the landowner. So to me it seems like his royal titles had nothing to do with his gun certificates.
Also, minors can get a rifle/shotgun certificate that enables them to shoot with parental supervision.
Okay that’s good. It’s just way tougher than here in the US where you can hunt many, many places with an easy-to-obtain hunting license. Not sure who you’re getting permission from though, is it rather normal to ask farmers and stuff to use their land?
It’s not necessarily tough, there is no such thing as a hunting license in the UK. You can hunt if you own a firearm legally.
Professionals do have licenses for pest control or season limits on certain game.
There are a lot of syndicates/clubs that own or lease estates with lots of land in the UK, where you can hunt. Membership fees can range from £100 a year to millions for elite clubs.
Or if you know a farmer with permission or own any land privately, you can hunt.
Saying that hunting is reserved for the wealthy in the UK is compete fiction. Anyone regardless of status or wealth can approach a land owner to ask for permission to shoot over their land. Farmers often jump at the chance as it's essentially free pest control for them and food for the hunters. Everyone's happy.
The UK firearms law has wiggles in it. But in general:
You don't need a firearm certificate to shoot. You can rock up to most clay grounds and have a go (for about £60).
If you know someone who shoots, they can lend you their gun (1) while you are with them.
Hunting isn't cheap, but it is not "wealthy only". Some shoots are sub £100 for example.
You do need a good reason (1), but I'd use "sports shooting" rather than "competition shooting". As in you could get a license because you go down the range, but never compete.
Could be because they're concerned he could be a risk to himself? (In the old days, you got a decanter of whiskey and a handgun, to give you the opportunity to do the decent thing, when you'd brought the regiment into disrepute, so perhaps they're worried he'll take matters into his own hands - or take others with him)
I was thinking it’s probably very wise that he not handle any guns. 😬
Do you mean weird that they can just take away his license though? Or the conditions are weird? Because from my understand he’s allowed to posses them (for decoration maybe?), but can’t use them or personally transport them, but they ARE still in his house? I also think it said he was “in conversations” to give them up? Why was it a conversation?
Basically if you are a firearms certificate holder in the UK, once you've had your suitability assessed and the certificate granted, it is constantly under review.
If there are any concerns about your ongoing suitability the police can and do remove your guns and review your certificate.
If you're found to be unsuitable the certificate is revoked and you lose your guns.
You can still use other people's guns under supervision or use a club gun if your member of one without a certificate but you cannot be in possession of your own guns.
In Andrew's case he has lost everything recently so I'd guess his mental health may have been cause for concern, along with his character been called into question.
I wonder if they are worried he might be desperate enough to harm himself? I would hate to see it get to that point. I hate him but would never want to see anyone be that desperate or lost as to harm themselves.

Is it wrong that the title made me giggle
He apparently used to host hugely popular hunting weekends. Another way to win friends and influence people. Wondered if he would still be allowed to continue this.
He would be allowed to shoot provided that he is accompanied by a licence holder and using that persons guns
Ghislaine was invited to several such "perfectly normal shooting weekends".
A splendid day shooting, peasants for dinner followed by the Under 8's being passed round the table.
The punishment is different if you connections, money and titles? Really? Who knew? I wonder how many of his type have engaged in such crimes.
Undoubtedly you are likely correct but he hasn't been charged with anything, let alone convicted
What’s next? Taking away his teddy bears? Oh, the humanity!
Please and thank you!

That's what I was curious about, thank you!

Hunting is absolutely not reserved for wealthy/royals in the UK. It’s a pastime that many ordinary folk do.
Okay that’s good. It’s just way tougher than here in the US where you can hunt many, many places with an easy-to-obtain hunting license. Not sure who you’re getting permission from though, is it rather normal to ask farmers and stuff to use their land?

That’s interesting! I stand corrected, thank you.

Farmers often jump at the chance as it's essentially free pest control for them and food for the hunters. Everyone's happy.
Thank you! I know people need license to own guns, I just wondered about needing a license to use one

Is this weird to anybody else or just me lol?
My question is, did he threaten someone? Is that why they are doing this because he hasn't been convicted of any crimes.
I don’t understand what justification they have for revoking his licence?
Could be because they're concerned he could be a risk to himself? (In the old days, you got a decanter of whiskey and a handgun, to give you the opportunity to do the decent thing, when you'd brought the regiment into disrepute, so perhaps they're worried he'll take matters into his own hands - or take others with him)

I’m just confused like why? How did this come about, they just went over and were like give us your license?

Either the licence won't be renewed or is immediately revoked.
I don't understand the confusion
Yeah, I’m not seeing the connection.
