With lot of Countries bringing in Digital ID so they can track what you do Easier and Better.

I have some Worry about the Effect on Roms Sites/Trackers as they might be able to find them Easier - Then they can shut them down

So are you Downloading More just in Case of Worst Case Scenario Happens?

  • If you are looking for roms: Go to the link in https://www.reddit.com/r/Roms/comments/m59zx3/roms_megathread_40_html_edition_2021/

You can navigate by clicking on the various tabs for each company.

When you click on the link to Github the first link you land on will be the Home tab, this tab explains how to use the Megathread.

There are Five tabs that link directly to collections based on console and publisher, these include Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, Sega, and the PC.

There are also tabs for popular games and retro games, with retro games being defined as old arcade systems.

Additional help can be found on /r/Roms' official Matrix Server Link

  • There's always usenet, torrents, and VPNs.

They and try and ban them too

  • Digital ID is a load of poop.

"You need to verify your age to access this site"

    turns on VPN to Ireland

    "here have access to everything"

It's not enforceable in ANY way, unless they suddenly ban every single VPN ever, which they will never do because businesses use them.

its only the start of it , so its easier to say things like "Just use VPN" as it ages it won't be the case. Digital ID uses crypto so when it gets setup properly it won't matter if you use a VPN or not they will still know.

Did you read that off a conspiracy theory Facebook group?

They have been trying to age restrict access to the Internet under the guise of "protecting the children" since the late 90's, it's NEVER been implemented.

That's not how any of that works.

it would be helpful for the rest of community, if you ellaborated on your point as I have done.

What isnt't helpful, is one sentence, looking like it was hastily constructed by another member of the "poo poo crew", why says "no its not" and nothing else.

Wth your psydonym on this site (truthkeeper) we're all looking forward to illumination.

    Thanks.

They can at least try to make it happen

  • Out of all things to be concerned with Digital ID, its roms? Seriously?

It's 1 of them and this is the Roms Reddit Page

If you live in “The West” we’re in economic downturn. If you listen to the fear_mongering “Youtube Economists”, we’re heading for a crash deeper than 2008. In these times, piracy uptake increases significantly. “Rightholders” respond aggrssively and vested interest put out fear mongering articles in the media to deter, articles like “ grandma raided by police for dodgy firestick”. (Yeah, OK).

Now, in terms of content, roms are not usually targetted (unless its a ninty IP). It’s movies/music and live sports. So i’m not saying its impossible its just unlikely based on the past.

The reason being, is money. With roms you’re not messing with their money because very few have momonplisedand monetised rons due to lower demand. If this changes, they’ll be coming.

  • As if big companies can't already use Google and find the megathread. If they wanted to shut it down, they would have done so already. It's literally the first result in Google when you type in ROMs. Just chill.

  • Yes. More of all media. and investing in redundant storage too.

    That is Very True

  • Digital id will never come, starmer will be gone long before then and no one will comply.

  • I truly believe that we will enter a profoundly totalitarian scenario, with restrictions on use, consumption, transit, and constant monitoring (including embedded in equipment that we buy such as cell phones, TVs, appliances, cars, etc.) inside and outside the home, and whether in the virtual realm or not.

this will be gradual, increasing, and will become the majority trend in the world.

therefore, I don't have a positive outlook on the future, nor on the near future.

for a long time I wondered to what extent it makes sense to fight against the inevitable.

or adopt an indifferent stance given the fragile impact I could possibly have. the complete lack of positive results followed by heightened punishment.

this type of scenario intensifies the perception of loneliness and vulnerability.

on the other hand, some margin of freedom always exists. some way to circumvent rules, systems, monitoring, always exists, even if they become increasingly technical, more expensive, and more difficult.

so, I get the impression that the solution isn't to fall in love with more things you couldn't have, but to free yourself from the desires that will be taken away from you.

and this means being willing to give up comfort and entertainment as a way of adapting to the changes that seem to be coming.

I don't know what will happen, but if I have to hide, I probably will.

under these conditions, I don't believe I would put myself at risk to seek out or consume intellectual content. therefore, I wouldn't download ROMs in the future, and not even now as a kind of personal treasure to be taken or punished later.

I would probably try to draw less attention to myself, and probably abandon the digital world altogether.

I am not convinced that there are things worth fighting for.

without fighting, as solution, it seems more interesting to me.

but I'm not trying to convince you of anything, just answering your question.
