So, open cat wounds of any kind, whether it's a bite or scratch, have the potential to cause tetanus and cat scratch fever, which is a real thing. There's no way you can go to your public health department and get a tetanus shot? If you're just not able to do it, I would see a doctor. Please keep an eye on it, if it starts to get really warm to the touch, or really red, those are symptoms of infection.
EDIT: Please wash it with warm water and soap, keep it clean, put some polysporin on there. Make sure going forward, as much as you can, don't ever play with your cat roughly with hands and arms or feet and legs. Make sure when you're playing you're always using toys.
Thanks! I knew about cat scratch fever but never knew about the tetanus part honestly. I unfortunately have a rare disease that causes me a lot of trouble with health and because of a bad reaction after a vaccine that caused my disease to worsen, my doctor suggested I don’t get vaccines. I still support vaccination though! I am still considering a tetanus shot though because I understand the importance of it. Thank you for the info though, it’s really helpful knowing before owning a cat
No worries, just keep it clean, and do your best to redirect play to toys and scratch pads and scratchers and things, so they don't end up using you as a human cat toy. It's kind of similar if you stepped on a rusty nail, or got bit by a dog. Those are things that you would definitely want a tetanus shot for as well. Just consult with your doctor then in regards to the disease, if the benefits outweigh risks or not with getting a vaccine of this kind.
