Knee jerk policy made in the fly with huge potential for unintended consequences which is no substitute for new supply. It will actually reduce the supply of rental properties. Why would a small landlord or accidental landlord rent a property in this environment.
Well we live in a democracy and every eejit vote counts as much as yours. It is what it is. This is why Ancient Greece did not allow everyone to vote in their society🤷🏻♂️
We're a representative democracy, not a pure democracy, and for good reason, it limits the impact the eejits can have (although not fully unfortunately)
