Social platform for micro-blogging & community posts with dual profile mode, I am currently working on this project it is a hybrid between twitter/ X and reddit. Please sign up and check it out and give any positive feedback. I know the name is off was thinking of rebranding to the name Pheed. https://www.xspacehq.com/?feed=people

  • I know of one example of prior art for this type of hybrid: Mbin. It could be a source of ideas for your project. You can see how people use it in practice, and issues they've dealt with.

Mbin does have a particular goal that might be different from your project. It's a Fediverse app, and the Fediverse contains microblogging apps (like Mastodon), and also forum (Reddit-style) apps (like Lemmy and Piefed). They all interoperate, but the presentation mismatch between microblogging and forum makes it a little awkward. Mbin is designed to combine the two interaction modes more naturally.

How does Mbin work? Is there a specific website or app for it?

Like other Fediverse apps Mbin is federated, meaning there are multiple providers. (They're called "instances" or "servers" in Fediverse parlance.) They all interconnect, so it doesn't matter much which one you sign up with. Sort of like how you pick your phone provider, but you can talk to anyone. The differences mainly come down to moderation policies.

Go to https://joinmbin.org/, click "Join a Server", and pick any server. Again, the choice doesn't matter much.

Once you are signed up you can use the web app provided by the server you signed up with, or you can use a native app from https://joinmbin.org/apps

    Thank you! 😊

  • Microblog format = auto pass.

    Twitter format = auto pass.

A hybrid of two mostly useless formats will not magically create a useful one.

Ok so take out the twitter format all together?

  • You might have trademark issues with that name as X has Spaces.

    I'm renaming it to pheed.

What demographic do you think that name appeals to?

  • Will it be compatible with ActivityPub? like Mbin

  • being hosted on a domain is a dealbreaker.

Assuming its successful, and it catches on, bandwidth prices start becoming a real issue. Most developers will toss on a simple adsense banner. However, this trend will grow until admins are bowing to advertisers about the content being 'brand safe'. This is one of the reasons reddit is a shithole.

A viable alternative needs to be p2p, and without a central admin who can fuck it up when they get selfish and greedy. For example, imagine if we all self hosted mini email domains on our own computer, and subscribed to a bunch of mailing lists, except we didnt read the inbox, instead the backend took the data in email format and translated it to look like reddit.

  • Poor branding, boring concept. Pass.

  • Who is funding your project?

Anyone can cook, you need a buisness plan to open a restaurant.
