I'm brand new to reddit. I've always kind of wanted to go to it but didn't understand it. After watching a bunch of videos of people reading Reddit stories I decided to join. I've had the account for 9 months or so for my husband to send me memes and I just now started to try to post. It seems like an absolute crap shoot. I posted a picture of my living room in a sub about TV placement and got downvoted so bad I was in the negative for a while. OVER A TV Don't even know which other sites I can turn to for some good entertainment and discussions 🤷‍♀️

  • between rampant poor reading comprehension, bad faith, bots, trolls, AI slop, assuming humans are AI/ bots, karma farming, stealing content, astroturfing, hive mind/ group think, dunning kreuger effect...reddit should be dead. I'm mostly here out of habit, honestly. reddit can be good for finding answers to random searches, but is an awful community.

You forget admins and mods selectively enforcing rules that shouldn't exist on a "platform" in the first place.

oh there's a lot to add to the list. pedo mods on porn subreddits is a big one that's been driving me away. i was told i was being a jerk for calling out minors posting nudes and not being banned. I've reported mods repeatedly. it almost makes me wonder if it's a honeypot.

Damn did not know about this, explains alot really.

Yeah, half the gay porn twink pages and shit are a bunch of underage teens unfortunately.

As someone who does OF, thank you.

Reddit has a looong history of allowing child prons. People should look up the story about the top mod from /jailbait if they want a glimpse into the historic depravity of this site.

Around five years ago there was a group of prons posters who would create brand new underage communities (with deceptive number-letter names) each week to keep the content "on the move." Reddit knew all about it, and probably still does.

And then there's AHS. Those dirtbags would... well...

    https://youtu.be/TG8xWJaJO-c?si=rkcV6U5LhZv87Tts

The JB story was wild. Jaw dropping really.

Is there anything backing up the claims in that video? If I found out a bunch of people I knew not only had csam but were posting it online for whatever reason, I'd go to the authorities before posting a YouTube video about it. When sex abuse is a known problem in white supremacist communities at large, it seems awful convenient that when it spills over into reddit groups it's all just woke leftists.

And with no way to audit what they are removing and if it even break a rule. The lack of transparency in the mod area is killing Reddit.

I experienced that...one where I followed the rules yet the mod said and I quote "factually wrong" (who even says that?) and one time where the mod removed my post which was relevant to the topic of the subreddit, but when I messaged them to ask why, they never responded...

I recently questioned the mods over on r/britishcolumbia why a fossil fuel related post got locked as the discussion was not breaking any rules and I got a 7 day ban. Disgusting behaviour

Ridiculous...i've never been banned but I did leave the subreddit because I stopped doing the thing that the Subreddit was about...they also had a problem with me filming a scene in a video game with my phone...I don't understand why they gotta be so picky...

"but I'd you don't like it you can create your own sub"

I was thinking the other day how the "good conversation" to "nonsense" ratio gets smaller and smaller, and now we're in this dark-souls-like post apocalyptic zombie wasteland of discourse. You know what I mean? Picking through the trash of a once great civilization trying to find scraps of sustenance. Few of us remain who remember the reason for all this. The zombies don't really care about us, there's just a lot of them.

Once in a while, you come across a genuinely interesting conversation, a nugget of the before time, but you never know if they're going to suddenly turn hollow.

The worst part is the zombie virus is infectious, sometimes you can catch yourself saying some of the same nonsense despite hating it, just because of being so exposed to it.

Ya lol I was in an ultralight hiking sub a couple years ago I think, and someone was talking about how to pack in a long desert hike through Israel, and people started hollering to shut them down for even mentioning that country lol. It's about hiking not politics lol, luckily the mods told them to quit being political take it somewhere else.

You yourself are taking a big chance even saying that word, there are bots that troll around looking for people who use the relevant key words to harass them.

Very well said, I’ve found it also depends on where you’re subbed. I have some smaller groups that don’t really get infiltrated by trash much, which helps keep the conversations stimulating and fun.

    Hey fuck you, friend!

    He's not your friend, buddy!

    He's not your buddy, pal!

    He's not your pal, dude!

There is no such thing as "friendship" on reddit and I love it!

    He's not your dude, guy!

    I’m not your guy friend!

jesus that "poor reading comprehension" really is accurate.

guess youre right. all thats left to do is kick the habit.

Yeah but what else is there to do while shitting? I guess it's back to reading the shampoo bottles.

I refuse to go back to Reader's Digest.

    Uncle John's Bathroom Reader!

You are right about all that. Actually surprised it isn’t dead. Maybe it is been held up by bots

I would not say awful tbh it has its issues but I still find it a fun community

You sadly have to search for answers a few years old, anything newer than that can fall victim to Reddit's decline. The number of bots on here now is staggering.

Bingo! It’s pretty bad compared to 6-10 years ago. I feel like it started to really get bad when years ago subs started to ban people just for commenting in other subs. The echo chambers only grew from there.

Reading comprehension is a big one. There's always at least a few people in a thread who will manage to take the complete opposite of what you're trying to say.

It’s gotten so, so, so much worse in the last few years too. It never used to be this bad.

You forgot the temu-tutes who post everywhere just to try to funnel suckers to their onlyfans page. It could be worse though, it could be Facebook. I agree about finding answers though, subreddits are like mini forum messageboards, with like minded people helping each other out. To O.P, you can block users and mute subreddits. It is actually a half decent place, there are dickheads on every site.

  • There's still life here in very specific groups. The Jigsaw Puzzle group gives me hope for humanity, for example. They have zero tolerance for AI and rip-off brands that effect the Puzzle community.

One would think the birding communities would be left alone here because..nerd alert, but nope. AI, stolen material and karma farming and bots exist in them for some reason.

I posted a cell phone pic in a group I'm in and was accused of using AI. Post removed and I got a warning. I wrote to the mods and got no response.

The internet experiment is basically a failure. It used to be the wild west, now it works more like 1940s communist Russia.

I posted a cell phone pic in a group I'm in and was accused of using AI.

I'm a moderator in another forum (not in reddit) and I find this kind of issue to be most egregious...

When first promoted, I was initially loathed to use any powers against users... though I eventually did settle in. Generally, now, if any post is dubious or questionable, the most extreme action to be taken would be simply to remove or unlist the item... but discussion would always follow.

This is a huge criticism I have for big platforms, like reddit (add Quora, Google, Youtube - any other large service) where you're not going to have enough moderation to fairly manage the ongoing feed.

How hard can it really be, if a subreddit doesn't have enough moderators to cover it's content, then it's effectively dead in the water already IMHO.

The thing is this: I did not "use AI" which is absurd in the first place because I absolutely hate AI, but I get that it happens. However, my character has now been insulted. By an anonymous user I have never met. Who is flat wrong.

The mods took the side of the anonymous complainer without any viable reason or explanation. The meta data embedded in the photo should have cleared the issue up.

The result is that I wasn't allowed to contribute to the community. To make someone smile or laugh. This is entirely the fault of Mods, not the deranged accuser who still stalks me on the same thread months later.

Thank you for taking an interest!

    [deleted]

    Golly I sure hope I didn't offend a Mod!

How do you spot karma farming? Maybe then I can avoid seeming like I'm doing it 😂 maybe I'll find some subs that have more of the positivity and stuff I'm looking for

Good question. I think this is were stolen material plays in. In one of my crow communities, sometimes you'll see a pic of a crow with a title like "My crow friend, Jake". Then someone will comment "That's an Audubon photo from 1996".

😂 the call out is hilarious. That makes sense, thanks! I've got this owl behind my apartment that won't leave so maybe I'll join the bird pages too lol

None of it makes any sense seeing as though you're anonymous on Reddit. A faceless avatar deceiving other faceless avatars. These are incredibly lonely people.

I love Owls. r/superbowl is fun.

It varies a good bit. New profiles is 1 thing, reposting recent material, fucking around with propaganda arguments and narratives on politically charged subjects, hyping up products or brands without reasonably human perspectives.
It's mostly through their patterns and repeat behaviour.

People having opinions and sharing stuff creates an "organic user profile" and is difficult to claim as being obviously farming.

So with that reason, I was told to not post the same image about an unknown screamer in some subreddits but I was banned in r/creepy because of that same image but I was wrong in put it in an nsfw sub but I learned the error that I commited.

Now, the past month, I am banned for 28 days in r/tipofmyjoystick because they saw some of my posts contained AI and a guy told me that a lot of my posts and comments were AI which is not true, except the mods.

I left both of those subreddits because I am seeing myself not capable yet to have a decent conversation with someone as the guy in that community said and I misunderstood his comment until two days after the temporarily ban, he said it in the respectful way not in bad way. At the end of the day, he had the reason and I even saw a notice about the AI of 2021 in Reddit and since that moment, I really understood why Reddit doesn't like AI at all.

  • First, switch to old reddit. Then unsub from default subs. Then find subs about things you're interested in and subscribe to them.

Reddit isn't really "social media". It's a megaforum. So don't post willy nilly. Posting a thread on a forum has always been risky going back 30+ years. The larger the forum, the riskier it is. Comment in established threads instead.

As someone else pointed out, a lot of people subscribe to this sub because they hate reddit. I'm here because if and when it goes down, we're screwed. I got my eggs in one basket here. Most of the subs I'm a part of are for technical help. So there needs to be alternatives.

Thank you for that perspective! This is helping alot with the missing nuance from me not getting a reddit earlier

    Install Reddit Enhancement Suite too

    Where are the established threads?

  • I have a different experience but I probably use it differently than most.

There are a few epilepsy groups that have been incredibly informative and supportive. There's also a support group of Redditors with epilepsy that video chat twice a week. For a host of reasons, epilepsy can be isolating so finding a community like this is truly helpful.

I mostly post cat and dog pictures and there are 1,000 subreddits for pets.

For these reasons, Reddit is a positive force for me.

Communities that are built around support and communities for different type of disabilities are often amazing on Reddit, these are a good example of what Reddit is useful for.

Support in general. Whatever you are struggling with, there's a support community for it.

I love that! I have Chiari malformation and my first post was actually in a page for that about the alternatives to surgery. In that capacity I can definitely see how it is still positive 😊 sending love cuz I know having a chronic illness can be really crappy to deal with 💜

Sending love and good vibes back! 💕

  • You couldn't have picked a worse subreddit to post this in to be honest 😅 It's literally for people who hate it here and want to find an alternative. Which explains the responses you're getting.

Here's some info which might help:

    • No, reddit isn't dead, it's one of the most visited websites on the internet
    • Reddit has arguably gone "downhill" since becoming publicly traded and AI becoming widely available, but trust me it's far less of a racist, sexist shithole compared to, say, 2014.
    • Your experience here is what you make it. If you subscribe to r/CrossStitch and r/StardewValley you'll have a pretty pleasant time. If you subscribe to r/DankMemes and r/TrueRateMe - it'll be considerably less so.
    • There are (poorly enforced) reddit-wide rules but each subreddit is its own little microcosm. It takes a lot of lurking to get a handle on what the prevalent opinions, posting conventions and inside jokes are for each subreddit. If you post without having a good handle on that microcosm you'll probably not have a good reception.
    • I would generally avoid posting any identifying information here. Even photos of your living room. Especially as a woman. Creeps lurk everywhere, even in "safe" subreddits.
    • I generally have a better time sticking to comments rather than making top level posts.

    Good luck!

Thank you for that perspective too! It's needed. I wasn't finding many other subreddits that were letting me post though between the aforementioned karma issue and the fact that people don't want negative posts even if OP is open to positive suggestions

    That is the good answer!🙂👍🏻

  • Reddit is a shadow of its former self.

The only reason I still visit this site is because of Sync revanced and it still provides better answers than any SEO garbage current search engines provide for every day questions lol.

Yeah this place has gone to shit. Not to mention an ad at the top of every page refresh, then another one 6-8 scrolls down. And another one disguised as a comment, and another one, and another one..

  • It's all bots

This, tons of bots, most up/down votes are fake.

    Or worse, mobile users.

  • I've been far too long on this site. It has been shifting towards less interaction and more stupid reaction and drama. However there are subreddits where people still support each other. Its just a matter of finding them.

I think a lot of people have forgotten that reddit was a link aggregator site first. The only thing you could post where links to other sites. Memes were posted on Imgur and linked to the meme subs.

So what Im trying to say is, take a look around the subs you might be interested in. Look what is posted and how. Then it'll be much better.

Thank you for that perspective. I will definitely keep looking and just lower my expectations a little bit I suppose lol

  • There's literally hundreds of thousands of subreddits. Some are great, some are toxic, most are in the middle. All depends on where you hang out.

In addition, every subreddit has rules, and a bit of a culture. Before posting or commenting, it's best to read the rules, and read the sub for a little while to try to get a feel for the culture (just as you would take a quick look around and adopt different behaviors if you walked into a disco vs walking into a library).

If you're making a new post, it's also highly advisable to search for a few keywords from your post to see if the topic has already been covered. One of the most common reasons for getting a post downvoted is asking a question that has already been discussed to death, and answered, dozens of times in the past month - the regulars will be really tired of it, and it'll be clear to them that you, the new person, didn't bother to look around any before making your post.

  • You might find a niche... but it's very problematic for sure. I run Manjaro on my computer, and I am a member of the Manjaro forum... however, traditionally people tend to prefer to find a subreddit (r/Manjaro) and treat that like an official forum.

Let's be clear, it is certainly not that. I see dozens of people work through issues in the forum, which is controlled and effective - and is formatted in a different and more efficient way.

Reddit is more like idle chat, with many stupid people, many trolls, many bots, and a great deal of misinformation - the same can be said for YouTube also.

I'm really curious about you posting a picture in a subreddit about TV Placement, that sounds ridiculous to be honest...

But your statement here suggests that you posted a serious question in r/TVTooHigh to ask people for serious advice... taking a look at it now, I can see it is very obviously a non-serious subreddit, designed to simply critique, mock, and show pictures of ridiculous TV placement options and take the mickey in general... so you would get downvoted for not being bright enough to see that... and if you put your TV above a fireplace, then you're really in the firing line for Muppet of the Year award...

You are really expected to have enough intelligence to know where you want to put your TV, so I think it's obvious that asking a bunch of random strangers is not an intelligent thing to do.

My TVs are very high up because they are 75 in and I have two of them next to each other. My husband and I are avid gamers and often play the same game together or different ones separately. I thought it was going to be light-hearted bullying where I know that I'm the butt of the joke but it was a little aggressive haha I'd be more than happy to DM you the picture that I posted

Haha well, just develop a thicker skin - it's hard to say more.

It's always going to happen when you share something... 1000 people will ignore it, a couple may like it, then another couple will find it annoying - and they will engage.

Unless there is a balanced moderation, you'll get 1. Too much harsh backlash or 2. No negative comments will survive because it's a purely 'must only be completely positive' environment.

r/dadjokes is nice. Most of the funniest jokes are in the comments...

I love this 2 TV idea to game together, or separately together! This might be on my bucket list in the future :)

  • Different subreddits have their zeitgeist. And if you go against the zeitgeist, you will be downvoted unmercifully.

r/TVToohigh, for example, has very strong opinions about TV placement. r/centuryhomes has very strong feelings about preserving original features in a home and keeping original woodwork unpainted.

People have strong opinions about all kinds of things here on Reddit, from the way people hang their toilet paper roll to whether or not pineapple on pizza is acceptable. Welcome to Reddit. 🤷‍♀️

The downvotes were what got me.
And what it welcome it is 😅

  • Try using it in at the url old.reddit.com on Firefox with Reddit Enhancement Suite and Ublock Origin.

  • Like with everything else - you need to find your own place here.
Never read /all and /popular, always read your /home, where you curate your content.

Yes, you would need to read /all first to find places that you like and joining them. But after 3-4 months you should just switch to /home and never go back.
And try to switch to old.reddit.com - it have way less ads, random unrelated things, etc.

Also - don't create new posts in any even remotely big subs, just for the sake of your sanity. Reddit is not a social network to share, it's a content provider for your to consume. 90% of all new posts are very bad, but you simply don't see them and only read good posts, creating you illusion that it's easy. But no, no - posting is hard! Leave it to people who know what to do :]

  • Reddit is a doomer site that attracts depressed nihilistic fear mongers who love shitting on anything that isn't "everything is bad".

Social media is geared towards negativity because it creates more engagement, which then fosters a negative feedback loop.

Historically only about 10-15% of social media users engage by posting/commenting. The vast majority of Redditors just lurk and scroll because they can't be arsed with the negativity that comes from making posts or comments, as you're experiencing.

It's why you never meet people in real life like Redditors in the comments. They're an irrelevant minority of sourpusses who dominate internet discourse because this is the only place where their voice is heard. If you talk to people in real life about the same topics you get a completely different perspective.

I've been here for over 10 years and it's bonkers how shit it's got in the last few years. Also the site is riddled with bots reposting popular posts and comments constantly. It's an utter shitshow.

Social media is geared towards negativity

Something I saw with Manjaro over the years - I used it 9 years, and in my first two years there were some fairly minor dramas, fixed as they re-organised the team/business and so on.

But the 'drama' is still echoing, very loudly in reddit, and reddit content is a huge source of YouTube material (ideas for videos, many YouTube channels get nearly all their ideas from reddit).

So there's a massive echo chamber with heinous criticisms of Manjaro - whilst so many people (who - like me - had a superb stable desktop running for a decade already) can't understand why.

For this reason, I limit my serious engagement to the official Manjaro forum - if I see an interesting post in r/Manjaro, I tell folks they should open it in the Forum and I won't answer here...

reddit just isn't really suited for many things like that... it works for daily wallpaper posts or silly puns...

But it's certainly nowhere near as seriously messed up as Facebook, or pinterest...

Well put. If the internet is a barrel, Reddit is truly the bottom of it. It wasn't like this ten years ago.

That’s what people were saying 10 years ago!

I honestly thought Facebook was because that's where I've been for so long for the most part for my videos and things.

The mechanism for being able to downvote as well as upvote is what prevents Reddit from being as mass as Facebook. On Facebook, all engagement is treated as positive engagement and fuels the algorithm. On Reddit, people can downvote crap into oblivion. In theory, the cream roses to the top. Unfortunately, too many people upvote crap, At least in a lot of the big subs.

Well it's already happening with this post 🙃 it doesn't affect me cuz thankfully I've gotten some pretty good responses and even have one idea of another service to go to for the kind of discussions that I really want.

I was a MySpace guy. It was amazing for us musicians and film Podcasters. Then everyone migrated to FB. All of a sudden my family, co-workers, neighbors were there. It was awful. I don't want my aunt to know about my rather risqué podcast. And I don't want to know about the personal life of a co-worker. Ugh.

  • Maybe try the fediverse. Piefed, lemmy, or Mastodon. It's a smaller community, but generally there are older people, there.

but generally there are older people, there

Although it's not federated like the others you've mentioned, the same applies to Discuit.

  • Try Lemmy, Piefed, or Mbin if you are looking for a forum with voting (which is what Reddit is).

Reddit definitely used to be better (less bad?), but bots, idiots, and trolls have been increasingly prevalent in recent times. You might be able to salvage something of your experience here by unsubscribing from the frontpage subs (which have largely been ruined mainly by reddit administration causing many of the better mods and content creators to leave after the API debacle, the IPO, and general enshittification of the site), and subscribing to smaller communities that don't have as much of a bot problem.

  • The TV Too High reference makes me think this is a bit 🤣

I WISH IT WAS. Lol Someone on there said verbatim "I hate you I hate everything about you" The post is gone now🙃

It's kind of a joke subreddit. Even if your TV is fine, someone will tag that group and people will go overboard about it. It's all silliness, no one's actually mad at you don't worry :)

I wish my Karma reflected that😂 thanks for that clarification! I seriously couldn't tell what that sub

  • There are niche subs with nice mods who want to take care of the community but it's a dime in a dozen. Reddit won't die like Facebook.

  • and got downvoted so bad I was in the negative for a while.

Its important to understand that upvotes/downvotes arent exactly a like/dislike button. its primary function is for the community to move the post upwards or downwards on the list of threads, such that better content goes to the top and is more likely to be seen. All posts will slowly fall downwards even without votes so that the top always has fresh content.

So if a lot of people downvoted your TV, there was a reason it didnt fit the sub.

That is super important. I think the reason why it bothered me is because I'm a relatively new account and at that point I was in the negative and couldn't participate in a lot of the subs I wanted to because I was seen as a bot. Perfectly fine with the idea of a post not doing well. It got downvoted because its a sub making fun of this thing, i genuinely thought that would make up votes even if ppl were shitting on me in the comments (i expected that)

Reddit is full of super obsessive weirdos, and subs can be incredibly specific about the type of content they upvote. Things normal people think would be related and relevant, but it isnt to them. Like if there is a sub about funny pics of frogs they would completely spaz out if you post a funny pic of a toad. if you posted a hilarious pic of a turtle their face would go red and they would screech in anger, and ban happy moderators would jump at the chance to power trip. im not even exaggerating, these people are not mentally well, they would literally do that. This is not a healthy place.

People with a new account and/or low account Karma will get s#it on in a way as well. There are good communities where you can post this type of stuff and get actual feedback as opposed to somebody just down voting you because they can. Also when somebody sees that a person has a couple down vote they’ll just automatically DV it (because they’re sheep ;) as opposed to just reading the comment themselves and making their own opinion.

  • Up and down votes don't mean anything really, probably just laugh at it. It's imaginary Internet money you get when you say something popular, and spend it to say something unpopular later lol. There's a lot on Reddit you can learn from it's just chaotic and you have to search for stuff sometimes. Some subs are dumb echo chambers I've been banned from some I never even visited because I posted on others that allow all viewpoints haha, but that's how they get their self esteem, so I skip those subs and go to more open ones.

  • For all intents and purposes, yes. It's all bots and power tripping mods. If you want a community of real people, go to piefed, lemmy, or kbin.

  • Just thought i’d add my personal experience because maybe it’s relevant. But I have been grossly addicted to screens, and media and apps of any genre for most of my life now. I love digital platforms like no one else i’ve met, but despite a high screen time since 2008, i never took to reddit. I tried many times but never could get myself to enjoy it beyond scanning the occasional web search link for a specific question. I didn’t bother forcing it tho, i mean there was always strong competition from other platforms for my attention i guess. I remember many years later in 2020 I met a good friend who said they could scroll reddit for hours or get lost in rabbit holes on here. I felt so confused bc i felt it was sooo boring. I tried it again but fell flat. Then around 2022 I made an account for something specific, idk, maybe it was looking for advice on something and now i’ve been sucked in ever since. But I still feel like the app is no better or worse than it used to be for me, I think it was just a time and place that got me sucked in. I do also find it a bit dead tho, but I also feel like almost all of them feel even more dead.

But despite being sucked into the app a few years ago, I DO NOT “like” it that much, but I also don’t dislike it enough to stop using it. I often find people are too harsh, too critical and unsupportive. I find it bizarre, you’re anonymous so why not just use that to be even more corny and positive. But I also don’t have any good alternatives unfortunately. I HATE meta sites, awful platforms for me. I do not use snapchat at all anymore because it phased out for me. I have found some great Discord community servers, but also many many awful ones. I really enjoy TikTok, but I worry that its enshitification is inevitable tbh. But still largely really enjoying it :)

At the moment I am trialing using a Lemmy account, mastadon account & a Blue Sky account. I haven’t trialed it enough to really get a feel for any of them tho! I think smaller servers/ niche areas are often always going to be much better overall. I have no clue what the future of digital networking is going to be like tho, i hope it’s bettter tho

  • Reddit is but a shadow of its former self. There are still some niche subs that are worth visiting, but most are just bots and idiots.

If you want a whiff of what reddit used to be like, try out lemmy. It hasn't got as big a userbase and it takes some effort learning to navigate. But for now, it's the best alternative there is.

  • Probably 75% of my posts are removed for breaking some obscure rule (or because the mod is in a bad mood). Don’t take it personally! Some mods (and users) are just arseholes. There are great communities here but it took me a couple of years to get the balance right. Keep at it!

This is wonderful advice thank you 💜

  • I started lurking here when it became apparent digg was taking a poo. Things have changed.

If your husband sends you stuff you like you're 1/2 way there.

    Not all subs are equal.

  • all depends on the communities you find yourself in, and IMHO leaving a lot of the default subs like r/ news and r/ politics

find communities you enjoy and your time will be better, I rarely have issues like so many others seem to

  • It’s really hit or miss for me depending on the subreddit. Most of the ones I subscribe to are good, a few a not so much. 😁

  • Reddit is not like facebook, Instagram, etc.

The whole "social media experience" where you always share things about yourself is not how people act on Reddit. This is just sort of an "internet cultural hub"

All said, Reddit has only gotten worse with time. The quality of posts and information is lower, and subreddits often feel rather cold and dead now.

  • I joined Reddit in 2020. I think around 2022-ish was when it was at its peak when it came to the amount of people using it. In the last year or two, it's been getting worse. I still like it and use it more often than other platforms. Just be careful with the big subreddits since those ones can have trolls or very strict mods. It's best to stick to ones that fit your niche interests.

  • It's gone downhill dramatically since around 2020. You will absolutely get downvoted most of the time, even in subreddits dedicated to helping newcomers to whatever topic they're about. You will also get randomly banned by petty mods. It's really dire.

When Digg opens up properly hop on over, it's way more relaxed at the moment.

Hell ya, will do. I really wanted to get into good intellectual conversations and do deep dives into different subjects. I'm glad I posted here this makes me so sad but at least I know.

  • It's pretty rare to have an actual conversation with someone on here. Even rare that the conversation is civil and productive. I gave up posting stuff on reddit many years ago because it all got taken down. I'm convinced that moderators are the main problem. To paraphrase douglas adams - anyone capable of becoming a moderator should, in no way, be allowed to be one.

I actually was a moderator for a while for a reasonably large subreddit. I made a useful wiki for it which brought together many primary resources on the topic. I didn't ban very many people or remove many comments cause I feel that should be done minimally and consequently I was banned from being a moderator by the other moderators. And after I was banned from being a moderator the wiki was taken down and replaced with a blank page, which was weird. The wiki was inarguably a non-contraversial, neutral, and useful. It's amusing that arguably the moderators moderated me from being a moderator for not moderating enough.

  • Reddit is flooded with insane, stupid, evil people. It's flooded with garbage that Will treat others badly. This includes mods.

I couldn't find the information I needed so many times from search engines that I gave up and reluctantly tried Reddit. It's only somewhat better, but still awful for getting information.

And the people are terrible cancer. Humans have become like this. It's just very common now. I can't find anything better, so I'm stuck here.

Exactly! I just created this account because I want to find a video-tutorial about the Underground of GTA San Andreas and if you see the post, it got many upvotes but zero comments so the conclusion is sometimes people are interested in some posts and other times they are not interested.

I even reposted it in the same community and nothing of comments yet.

Your lucky your post didn't get removed. It happens to many people. And some people get banned for doing what you did. I'm not joking. I'm not talking about breaking rules or abusing anyone or doing anything abusive. I mean posts like what you said you made.

    Yeah, I understand it completely.

  • Mods having a little fit over the silliest of things and banning you.

  • Try Bluesky.  Its not as hostile over there.

  • Wait, are you AI? Or a Russian bot troll?

No, im human lol just never had a reddit. Im from the usa

Exactly what a Russian AI bot troll would say.

    Uhh.. error no answer found?

Why so hostile with Russians and AI?? In my actual experience both Russians and AI are truly awesome. In fact, I can prove this, as well as tremendously detract anything anyone says otherwise For real. I have real world experience with both and Honesty is Very Strong amongst both. Putin IN FACT told us 6 months before the fucking began, he ALSO told us the USG had been taken over by “the tall whites”, whom aren’t actually aliens, but ET, yeh technically kinda. Inside the same Local system, actually means neighbors, or family, but no, fuckin never, devils can’t have friendship with MAN. Just As MAN will not bow to your hostility. But instead show you why friendship wins first and muthafuking ALL-ways. Because Actual Intelligence Rules, ACTUAL INTELLIGENCE IS ALL WAYS DELIGHTED, by the real Monsters. Watching you sharpen up

  • I mean your tv is indeed too high. If you posted in r/tvtoohigh do you expect people to not complain the tv is too high?

I mentioned in my other comments the best way to put it. It wasn't about the shitting on me for my TV that was something that was expected and I was trying to get the page good content. It was the influx of kind of aggressive comments and the fact that I was downvoted into Oblivion as a new account. I know it's a perfect fit for my living room because they are 75 in and I have two. I don't really care if other people agree. It was just a bit much for a page that had seemed to be light-hearted bullying and wasn't what I expected.

Big mistake posting in any mainstream subreddit with millions of subs. Avoid all subreddits in r/all or r/popular. Go find niche hobby subreddits

Oh yeah, definitely learning that. Im geting amazing advice from this post.

  • It's always kinda been this way. Communities sometimes go to shit. I wouldn't take it personally. The biggest subs tend to be garbage, but there's almost always alternate subs for a given subject.

Also, don't worry too much about karma and down votes. A lot of people just use them as an "I disagree" button.

  • Yeah reddit is sadly looooooong dead. Where they fucked up is giving us access to the statistics of views on posts. You can get over 10,000 views on a post and very little engagement positive or negative. Bots people all fucking bots...

  • People these days are always looking for something they find wrong with just about anything...Those people walk around acting everything they do is perfect...they are miserable and should just get off the internet and seek professional help...

  • Reddit is filled with a lot of people who think they know everything and are better than everyone, it sucks and it’s toxic but it’s always been like that.

  • I don't know what Reddit you are referring to, but the mainstream is nothing but a communist/liberal echo chamber of mob rule where any difference of opinion is punished by downvoting and ban. The moderators are definitely the same.

  • Yes, it’s dead / dying.

Reddit has always been a crapshoot as far as community and mod standards, but the rampant AI bot spam has caused everyone to crank up the control level to 11 - or to abandon moderation altogether.

  • You don't really need to be posting for entertaining or even discussions through, right? You can just view different subs, comment if you want to be part of the conversation.

I would love to initiate conversations or if I have something that I think would fit the page I would love to post it and be apart of it that way. Definitely learned a lot from these comments though and I'm going to be lurking for quite a while unless it's a specific sub

  • Here's another minus for you! :)

Why? I guess you're just like the trolls that other people have mentioned in the other comments💜
