Thank you so much - I would never have considered myself a textile artist, because weaving is something I do in my spare time for a bit of fun, but that's really kind of you to put me in that category 🫶
Weaving is ART. Just because it’s something you do in your spare time for a bit of fun doesn’t make it less of an art.
You are an artist. 🩷❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜
It’s common for patriarchal cultures to devalue fiber arts because it is commonly done by women. … honestly any art done by women is commonly devalued.
And that’s another reason to reclaim it and recognize as the art that it is.
And yes, I fully agree with you about the way crafts/fibre arts have been devalued over the years. It's awful, because there is so much skill and knowledge that goes into it, and for it to be ignored because it's mostly done by women is disgusting.
I will try and reframe the way I see myself going forwards 🏳️🌈
Oh same - because I use acrylic, I feel it doesn't deserve to be priced anywhere near the same as lambswool or merino, and while the material costs are obviously very different, the skill and labour is still the same!
We can always be relearning and reframing things!!
And the dogs say thank you 🐶 (or they would if they weren't asleep under blankets on the sofa right now 😂) please tell your pups that they're very good doggos!!
Thank you! The Happy Diamond Shawl is one of my favourite things I've made this year 🥰 I very recently sold it, and I'm glad someone will get to enjoy it!
I've been weaving for 3 years now. I saw someone weaving on Instagram and wanted to try it - I waited for a while, watched some videos, and then finally took the plunge and bought myself a loom in December 2022!!
Fair enough 😂 Just out of curiosity, how much material + labor did it take? If I found someone who sold stuff like this, what would a blanket like this go for you think?
I spent about £20 on yarn (I have quite a lot leftover, but probably not quite enough to make a second identical blanket), and took between 15-20 hours (I didn't time it exactly). I charge £55 for these blankets, which is definitely not pricing for materials and labour, but as this is my hobby and not my job, I'm ok with that.
I think most people would be charging at least double and that would absolutely be fair.
😂 Look up rigid heddle looms and you'll see why I say hand woven... Lots of manual movements needed to lift the heddle, pass the yarn through and then beat the thread down! Thank you 🥰
Having taken a beginner weaving class, I bow down to your skill and eye for color and design. I made 2 scarves of which I'm very proud, but it killed my back. I concluded that loom weaving isn't for me, but I appreciate what others accomplish. That's one lucky baby! I'd bet that blanket becomes a family heirloom.
Thank you so much 🥰 it's good that you got to try it and know it's not for you! It is a lot more physical than people realise - I've made two baby blankets in the last two weeks and I'm now having a little rest 😂
How do I buy one? I NEED IT! Jk, as a fiber artist, I know I could never pay you enough for your time and skill. This is GORGEOUS! I hope whoever gets to love this loves it for YEARS to come! Gosh, I am so jealous!
I charged £55 for this as it was for a friend. I tend to add on £5 for custom pieces, so I'd charge £60 for a custom blanket... Not that I have a listing for that on my Etsy shop at the moment!
I know you linked to your Etsy store on your profile, but for whatever reason, this app is not letting me click through. What is the name of your Etsy store so I can look it up myself?
Oh wonderful, I'd love to have a go with a floor loom! Maybe one day🤞I'd highly suggest a Louet Erica 4 shaft loom if you do switch to a smaller one - it's either a table loom or you can get a stand for it (which I have and love)!
My jaw literally dropped. Magnificent... gorgeous... stunning... you deserve all the adjectives! And you most certainly are a textile artist! Thanks so much for sharing here!
This is incredible. You’ve inspired me to look up what a heddle loom is since I saw you mention it in your comments. Wondering if I can convince my family I DO need another hobby, lol.
This is beautiful and reminds me a bit of my favorite Avoca blanket. May I ask how long it took you to create this, I’d imagine it was quite the labor of love.
Thank you 🥰 it took about 15-20 hours, spread over 3 days. I had quite a tight deadline, so although a lot of love went into it, so did a lot of swearing 😂
As a fiber artist myself (I spin, knit, and crochet), if you ever sell any pieces, please research what they go for. A weave like this usually sells for $900-3,000, depending on the artist, their loom, the fiber, etc.
But if I was rich af, I’d happily be overpaying the artists I’d buy from. Simply because constantly getting haggled is so damn annoying. (I make and sell resin, clay, and beaded jewelry. I’ve had some quite entitled folks come by my booth at events. One woman basically told her kid to pick anything she wanted then she tried to force me to accept $5 instead of the $37 the piece was.)
I do sell my work, and I know that I also don't charge as much for it as I probably should, because I don't price based on labour and I also struggle to think that my work is worth more. I'm happy if my prices cover the materials and a bit extra - I'm very fortunate that my job pays the bills, and selling my weaving is just a side thing for fun.
Additionally, I don't think the UK has the same appreciation of handmade items that the US does. For example, I sell plain weave acrylic scarves for £35 (~$46), and this is very typical, if not on the higher end of similar products for sale on Etsy.
Your market experience sounds awful! People can be the absolute worst sometimes. You sound extremely talented though 🥰 I hope you also get wonderful customers who appreciate that!
the craft demons are beckoning me to buy a loom once again, idk how many more times i can fight the urge to add another fucking hobby into my list. is to say damn, looks fantastic, i wanna make one too.
It's woven, made on one of my looms. It didn't take that long - I had quite a tight deadline, so it had to be finished 😂 I'd say it was 15-20 hours of work, spread over 3 evenings.
Omg it’s magnificent
Thank you 🥰🌈
I love it!!! Perfect!
Thank you, I definitely tried my best!
Absolutely incredible! Once again textile artists are on a whole other level
Thank you so much - I would never have considered myself a textile artist, because weaving is something I do in my spare time for a bit of fun, but that's really kind of you to put me in that category 🫶

It’s alll a journey. Then add the layer of imposter syndrome. It’s ok — just good reminders.
I often devalue my work when not using fancy fibers, which is bullshit and classist of me. Always more deconstructing to do.
I love your username 🫶🏻

I'm glad you said what I couldn't find the words for :)
I cannot help but chime in...
You are most definitely an artist of the highest order.
And have the cutest pups! Whispering, so my dogs do not hear!
Thank you, that's really lovely 🥰
And the dogs say thank you 🐶 (or they would if they weren't asleep under blankets on the sofa right now 😂) please tell your pups that they're very good doggos!!
Thank you for acknowledging it as an art!! It's just as much an art as painting or sculpting.
Wow, OP! You have the most amazing eye for colour and pattern... and everything!
I had a nosey through your past projects. STUNNING!
Then I saw your dogs 🐾😍💝
Oh shoot, now I gotta go there...
I went there! You all should! Your Happy Diamond Shawl is exquisite!!!
Holy crap OP's work is fantastic. Dammit, I'm a knitter, I'm going to have to learn weaving now aren't I....
Yep, you should definitely learn to weave! You've already got the yarn for it...
Thank you! The Happy Diamond Shawl is one of my favourite things I've made this year 🥰 I very recently sold it, and I'm glad someone will get to enjoy it!
Thank you so much 🥰 yeah the dogs are definitely the prettiest thing in the house 😍
Same, same!
Dogs are always the best part of any house 🐶🐶
Wait how??? How do you even weave this? Do you need a loom? This is so beautiful I can't even
Yeah you need a loom! I wove this using a rigid heddle loom 🥰
Goodness gracious, this is spectacular! 😍🤩
Thank you so much 🥰
That’s beautiful, great job!
Thank you very much 🥰
It's glorious! I'm in awe.
How long have you been weaving? How did you get into it in the first place?
Thank you so much 🥰
I've been weaving for 3 years now. I saw someone weaving on Instagram and wanted to try it - I waited for a while, watched some videos, and then finally took the plunge and bought myself a loom in December 2022!!
Can I ask what kind of loom you are using?
Of course! I made this on a 32" Ashford rigid heddle loom. I also have a 24" Ashford rigid heddle loom, as well as a 50cm 4 shaft Louet Erica loom 🥰
Ahhh this is beautiful
Thank you 🫶🌈
The most beautiful blanket I've ever seen. You should be so proud of yourself 💗
Thank you so much 🥰 I am very happy with how it turned out 🌈
I would pay many monies for that beautiful piece of weaving!
Aww thank you! I do sell my work, but I don't think it's for too many monies... It's just for fun really!
It's perfect!
Thank you, I'm very proud of it! 🌈
Magnificent!
Thank you so much 🥰
This is beautiful. I dont have adequate words to describe how lovely this is...❤️
Thank you so much 🥰
That is so gorgeous!
Thank you very much 🌈
So pretty!
Thank you 🌈
This is lovely
Thank you so much 🥰
I want that blanket so bad
You'd have to fight a baby for it... So you'd probably win 😂
Yeah, thats good news :D
This is so beautiful!
Thank you 🥰🌈
You're going to have to try this persuasion with the baby who now owns it 😂

Yes, do it!! If you get stuck, please feel free to drop me a message 😊
The colors are spectacular, well done!!
Thank you, I'm very proud of how the colours all work together 🥰🌈
What do you mean hand woven?!!!??? …Just kidding I know what you mean. I mean I don’t, but I’ll google it. It’s beautiful!!!! 😜
😂 Look up rigid heddle looms and you'll see why I say hand woven... Lots of manual movements needed to lift the heddle, pass the yarn through and then beat the thread down! Thank you 🥰
Woah! 😮
Haha thank you 🥰
I am absolutely amazed and awestruck at what people are able to create with their own hands. The gradient and tassels are just - INCREDIBLE
Thank you so much 🥰 I'm very proud of the gradient to be honest!

This was a commission for a friend, to be gifted to her relative, so hopefully it will be loved! 🌈
When I’m rich, there will be signs. I’m gonna buy SO many unique hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind, artisan goods 😤
That sounds like such a good way to spend money 🥰
I love it!!! How much for one?!
I charged £55 for this as it was for a friend. I tend to add on £5 for custom pieces, so I'd charge £60 for a custom blanket... Not that I have a listing for that on my Etsy shop at the moment!

Its so beautiful 😍
I appreciate it, thank you 🥰
This is so beautiful! Makes me want to take up weaving again.
Thank you - you definitely should! What sort of weaving have you done before?
I had a class in college using a floor loom. I'd probably switch to something smaller now since I don't have room for a big one.
Oh wonderful, I'd love to have a go with a floor loom! Maybe one day🤞I'd highly suggest a Louet Erica 4 shaft loom if you do switch to a smaller one - it's either a table loom or you can get a stand for it (which I have and love)!

You should definitely give weaving a try! It's such a good, calming hobby (it can be a lot of maths, but only if you're very particular, like me 😂)

My friend asked me to make it so she could gift it to her relative, so hopefully will be well received 🥰
This is amazing!! It’s so beautiful.

Thank you for taking the time to comment 🥰
That is absolutely stunning, and now I want to weave one 😍 How freaking big is the loom you wove it on? 🤯
If I was rich, I’d be offering to pay you $5,000 for my own. That is stunning!
Haha I wouldn't be charging as much $5000, but I appreciate that you think it would be worth that! 🫶🌈

Alright, textile weaving is officially going on the 2026 skills wishlist. Holy damn, that’s gorgeous.
I just bought a similar one in Ireland this summer and it’s now my prized possession. I hope someone else feels the same about yours, it’s beautiful.

How many years did it take?
This is knitted right? Did you watch tv or something while doing it?
It's woven, made on one of my looms. It didn't take that long - I had quite a tight deadline, so it had to be finished 😂 I'd say it was 15-20 hours of work, spread over 3 evenings.
