The deafening silence from most democrats is painful as well.  Like, this is a crisis! Speak up!

    parent root
    2 points Then-Importance-3808

You say that like there isn't a constipated reluctance to stand up for yourselves. Where is your general strike? Where are the riots?

Why is the only resistance to your country collapsing in on itself through unobstructed greed a series of lackluster reddit comments?

Why is nobody doing anything and blaming everyone else for doing nothing?

    parent root
    5 points Historical-Finish564

This is a tough question. The checks and balances have failed us. Riots would give Trump the excuse to send in his troops and declare martial law. A general strike would hurt people all over that are not involved. I do think your idea could be shaped to strike against the businesses of the oligarchs including the advertisers, for example, on CBS.

    parent root
    1 points Then-Importance-3808

A general strike absolutely will hurt everyone. This is not some light measure to be wielded all willy-nilly. This is a dire coup of the leading military power in the world by an oligarchal tribe of billionaires controlling world media, world governments and general world discourse itself.

As we discuss this, everyone are already hurting. With each passing moment there are fewer left to resist at all.

When one gets frostbite, amputation becomes not only necessary but imminently so. The country is getting frostbite.

Reading this back fuck dude I sound so dramatic, and yet those are the stakes. What the fuck is happening

    2 points PaleontologistOwn878

Correct, and that's why they do what they do and are so comfortable.

    parent root
    3 points Then-Importance-3808

And then I get downvoted for pointing that out because they absolutely cant stand that the biggest problem in America at this moment is not the evil hydra that is consuming the kingdom, but rather the complacency of the villagers to merely sit by and watch rather than reach for torch and pitchfork. Inaction allows the hydra to gorge itself upon their very homes and families

    parent root
    3 points PaleontologistOwn878

I mean in their defense they have been propagandized into submission and compliance. They have been made to believe that the threat comes from each other, it's been working since America's inception. Keep in mind the American revolution was regular people fighting for the wealthy and powerful of this country to acquire more land and have less taxes from England, in exchange for.....? Compare that to the French revolution.

"In defense of lack of critical thought, the people do indeed lack critical thought"

I'm not saying to not have empathy but at a certain point it must be acknowledged that if your culture collectively agrees to turn off their brains in service of convenience then they are actively choosing inevitable doom for the hope of comfort until then

    parent root
    2 points PaleontologistOwn878

Yeah I agree and that's the dark side of the coin but maybe this is happening because most of us know better now. We know who's actually robbing this country, we know that regular people are being lied to and taken advantage of and something is dying so something much better can take its place. We can't have a better world unless we can imagine one, we can't let the purposeful negativity of social media make us feel like this is hopeless. I know your point is to do something but someone once said that the revolution won't be televised, the first chains that need to be removed are the ones around our minds and that's what they are trying to keep control of.

They pose an enormous threat. One of the largest potential threats, if not the most.
It is unconscionable to omit this very real, very active threat.
What is listed as a threat? Our former allies in Western Europe.

I hate to tell you this, but those companies are not propping up the Russia war machine right now, the fact that they still have enough storage from the Cold War is.

Also Russia has started drone striking Turkish ships in the port of Odessa, so I don’t think turkey is going to be supplying them very much anymore

Additionally, "the administration of Donald Trump imposed tough sanctions against Russia in October. US sanctions targeted Russia’s two largest oil producers, Rosneft and Lukoil (state-owned and privately owned, respectively). These restrictions effectively forced Lukoil to look for buyers for the company's foreign assets. The sanctions were introduced after Vladimir Putin refused to travel for a meeting with Donald Trump in Budapest."

This action here basically crashed the Russian oil market. Because of this and the Ukraine strikes into Russia, the kremlin has approved of mixing alcohol within the gas supply. In short the shitty Russian engine that they have in those bmps and btrs is getting worse.

1 company based in Cyprus (legal attache remains under sanctions), 1 company based in Dubai, and 1 company based in Finland. These are not American companies, thank God.

I'm going to retain the high ground here and say at least we don't pay Putin blood money for fossil fuels, or send any American ordinance to Russia.

If you believe this, your very gullible. A quick search will show you there is no creditable evidence for this.

Well, there is evidence of this, but as ever, it's complicated.

Sanctions have been removed on a few companies with ties to the Russian military. Those removed from the list included the Cyprus-based company Veles International Limited and the Finnish company Hi-Tech Koneisto, which supplied sanctioned Russian companies with optoelectronic and laboratory equipment.

Sanctions were also lifted on the Dubai-based 365 Days Freight Services FZCO and the Turkish company Etasis, which exported equipment for Russia's military-industrial complex.

In addition, the Turkish company CPS Proses Kontrol Urunleri Sanayi Ve Ticaret Anonim Sirketi supplied German and American machine tools to a Russian defense contractor.

Having said that, in the opinion of Oleksii Melnyk, co-director of foreign policy and international security programs and coordinator of international projects at the Razumkov Center (a Ukranian think tank), "To say that the US is openly demonstrating its intention to make life easier for Russia’s military-industrial complex and Russia’s attempts to circumvent sanctions would, in my view, be something of an exaggeration," he said.

This is all sourced from a Ukranian newd agency, fwiw.

There’s a WHOLE lotta evidence for this. Trump’s been compromised since 1987.

I might live under a rock, but at least I’m not stupid enough to believe that Trump has lifted sanctions on Russia just to sell weapons to them. You know since Russia is openly supporting Venezuela right now

I don't see any articles corroborating your post (guardian/AP) Are you a bot?

    These things are quite google-able;

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/us-treasury-department-lifts-sanctions-044400060.html

    https://euromaidanpress.com/2025/12/19/us-quietly-removes-sanctions-from-firms-accused-of-supplying-russias-military/

Their source? The US Treasury; https://ofac.treasury.gov/recent-actions/20251218

Are *you* a bot? Or just incapable of corroboration?

I'll stick with credible sources for $500 Alex

That's a cute meme-y retort, doesn't absolve you being outright taken to task by the US treasury's own website. Perhaps pick another hill to die on and not look so stubborn and stupid?
