• More grift

That’s always been the point of voucher programs, they position it as a benefit for the underprivileged but the majority of recipients are wealthy already attending private schools. It’s just a redirect to those who want to damage the public school system even further

Exactly. The schools will just raise tuition to keep the poor folks out, and meanwhile the rich could already pay for this completely on their own.

Vouchers are also a huge part of the Republican plot to destroy public education and create a permanent, gullible underclass who will swallow any idiocy they peddle.

Talarico is a real bright spot in all the filth though

  • I'd vote for Talarico

Im voting for him in Texas. Hes held it down on issues. School vouchers, pharmaceutical prices, gerrymandering, insulin prices, 10 commandments in schools etc. Seems like he has integrity.

I hope I can vote for Talarico one day (CA)

A Senate bid might be a launchpoint for a Presidential bid

    I can’t but I gave him money.

  • Bless this man... especially in Texas....holy ahit

  • These republicans are the same who cut free lunch programs for poor kids. And they call themselves righteous Christian’s

They'd hate Jesus if they had to actually follow by his example

I get the impression they are only “sticker Christians”. The box sticker says Christian, but the contents are anything but. Typically Jesus is too woke for them, and they love quoting verses out of context.

  • Author of bill embarrassed of his own bill.

  • Iowa did this, all the schools upped tuition shortly after, essentially locking us poors out again.

  • It helps them avoid paying capital gains tax.

  • Really appreciating this new voice!! He speaks calmly amd directly to each issue. Its we need more of this!

  • The really sad part is that those people still duck paying taxes.

  • Billionaires are parasites of capitalism.

  • Its going on in Arizona and they're shutting down public schools left and right. All so millionaires can make more millions. Subsidizing private schools for wealthy people..

  • Yes he wants his rich friends to get paid for their kids private school, this is what voucher are..🤔 Guy could say make under 200k per family or something like that and be good but noooooooooo, we have to get them rich people more money….😂😂

  • And they would send these children to a "school" that would teach how to be obedient to the ruling class via religious indoctrination.  I know Texas cranks out some of the least educated, but sheesh.

  • Republicans have never had the people’s back. They’ve only had the rich $ business’s back, never anyone else. Why don’t people understand this?

I mean democrats fought to give you reduced or access to free healthcare and give you personal rights and freedom. Republicans have fought to control or limit these freedoms and made people think this is the way to go, but it isn’t. It’s putting a cap on what you and I can do all in the name of “putting us in a place of silence”.

  • That's because they only want to make laws that benefit the rich

  • Holy frick...is this actual proof that Republicans have officially become criminals?!?

  • You pay, they play. The rich laughing all the way.

  • Of course, this been the grift from day 1.

All the right wing whining about a social safety foundation minimally for all, was unfair for those that didn't want to contribute, therefore they wanted to take their 10k/year to wherever low IQ christian school shit grift

  • Amazing ‘also’ fact is that in many cases the education offered at a private school is inferior to what you can get at many public schools. Most private schools don’t required certification, or have the same depth of teacher observation, ratings, and reviews. Furthermore, options for honors and AP classes can be limited at private school. But boy the buildings and campuses are nice! The social elbow rubbing is also superior. The private school near me had major issues with faculty. Some who were hired were rejected from hire from the nearby public schools. (I know, they lived in my neighborhood). Maybe private schools give students a ‘network’ to help them get into college, true. As educators we always compared who got into the better colleges and the public school in our area usually won (but yes, we were in a higher income area).

    Just sayin.

  • Does Elon Musk pay taxes?

Then his children should be eligible for the program.

  • That’s what the republicans always do. If they introduce a bill to help lower and middle class, you better believe it will help the 1% right along with it.

That doesn’t make things equal. It moves the goalpost. If everyone, including the ultra rich, get a leg up, then we are back to where we started.

It’s like if you had 3 buckets and one bucket had more water than the other two buckets. So you decide to add water to ALL the buckets in an attempt to make them all equal. That will never work.

  • careful, democrats also support voucher programs because they want to get away from the peasants

  • It's an old video. One of the first that got attention for Talarico before he was running for Senate.

He's the real deal in Texas.

  • Texas is currently controlled by a pair of Christian nationalist West Texas billionaires. They have been replacing pro-public school conservative incumbents with their voucher-supporting loyalists. Their end goal is replacing public education with publicly-funded private Christian schools. Talarico calls out Wilks & Dunn and their voucher scam fairly regularly.

ProPublica - A Pair of Billionaire Preachers Built the Most Powerful Political Machine in Texas. That’s Just the Start.

“They control Republican politics in the state.”

Houston Chronicle - Two oil tycoons are spending millions to gut Texas public education

“‘The goal is to tear up, tear down public education to nothing and rebuild it,’ Dororthy Burton, a former GOP activist who joined Wilks on a 2015 speaking tour, told CNN. ‘And rebuild it the way God intended education to be.’”

CNN - How two Texas megadonors have turbocharged the state’s far-right shift

“People who’ve worked with Wilks and Dunn say they share an ultimate goal: replacing much of public education in Texas with private Christian schools. Now, educators and students are feeling the impact of that conservative ideology on the state’s school system.”

Texas Monthly - The Billionaire Bully Who Wants to Turn Texas Into a Christian Theocracy (4 min intro video | Article)

“The state’s most powerful figure, Tim Dunn, isn’t an elected official. But behind the scenes, the West Texas oilman is lavishly financing what he regards as a holy war against public education, renewable energy, and non-Christians.”

“Dunn is up-front about his desire to use politics to pave the way for a ‘New Earth,’ in which Jesus Christ and his believers will live together.”

Texas Monthly - The Campaign to Sabotage Texas’s Public Schools

“But by far the most powerful opponents of public schools in the state are West Texas oil billionaires Tim Dunn and the brothers Farris and Dan Wilks. Their vast political donations have made them the de facto owners of many Republican members of the Texas Legislature.”

Mineral Wells Area News - Glenn Rogers Pens Response to Election Loss

“History will prove that our current state government is the most corrupt ever and is ‘bought’ by a few radical dominionist billionaires seeking to destroy public education, privatize our public schools and create a Theocracy that is both un-American and un-Texan.

    May God Save Texas!”

  • Comparing richest man in the world and “a family making just over $500,000 a year” is crazy

The point is that a family making $500k a year doesn’t need the government writing $1.2M worth of handouts to a family that should bloody well be able to pay for private school themselves. How do I know? I paid for private school for both my kids, nursery school through college, and I didn’t make nearly that much.
