I love a good progression fantasy story for the power climb and world-building, but sometimes the side characters steal the show completely. Who’s the non-main-character that you loved the most? The mentor, rival, party member, villain, comic relief, anyone who isn’t the protagonist.
Chon-kee, from beware of chicken. Chunky boi is the giant boar golden retriever we all need in our lives.
I get SO EMOTIONAL with his scenes. Straight up bawling.
For real though I never thought I'd become so emotionally attached to a fictional pig.
Chunky, aka Shan Chun Ke, is Best Boy! Except for Shaggy Two, who is also Best Boy!
I like Zach from Mother of Learning, he's funny
Definitely an MC though.
Dross from Cradle
Arthur from The Calamitous Bob, Viv's greedy dragon daughter.
Eithan
Same :)
Alustin
They said not main character :P
Oops
Chad from Super Powereds. In later books he grows into such an amazing character
Loth from the Legend of William Oh. I love that super smart Kobold so MUCH.
Taika from HWFWM and it's really not even close!
youre a real mysterious guy bro!
Vilastramoz, The Malefic Viper
Lute from Super Supportive had me jumping up and down yelling at my phone. Love that guy
Ogras from DotF, because he's the jealous, sarcastic, coattail riding side character we all would be if we couldn't be the MC.
Mara and Leon from Path of Ascension....I love all the scenes with those goofballs in them
Snowdrop from Pale brings joy to a scene in a way that few others can match. This was clear from her first few scenes where just mere hours after she was “born” she tricked people who captured her into thinking she was harmless and subsequently set their building on fire.
…I guess it could be her signature quirk that everyone hears the opposite of every sentence she says. For example this gem is one of my favorites out of the handful that appear throughout the story:
Cyril from Polyhistor Quest. Wonderful magic combat style, tragic backstory that still has open questions, and refreshingly straight forward mannerisms.
Richard from Metaworld Chronicles. He's the first to see Gwen's potential, and his undying faith in her coupled with his hyper competence means he's in for the whole ride.
That Wushu Lamdon guy from those books about that janitor is pretty decent
Damien from A Practical Guide to Sorcery. He managed to endear me through sheer earnestness and some of his endearing flaws and obsessions (like needing to make sure not a hair is out of place so his hair can look just like his brother's natural hair).
Catchwick from STORMWEAVER
Clive’s wife
Is Donut from DDC a non-MC? I love her.
Pretty sure she would definitely say she was the MC...
lol
She is a co-MC. Minimum.
Kim Young-hoon from RTOC
Kai and Nephis from Shadow Slave
I’m not great at favourites, but it might be Duke Long. Such a dumb name for such a badass character, and he is really goddamn cool.
Dross
A few honorable mentions:
Shortbus, from Ben’s Damn Adventure
Sylvi, from System Universe
Sift, from Divine Apostasy (Shade’s First Rule)
Sgt Cullen, from Infinite World
Cookie, from Full Murderhobo
Lord Third.............anyone here knows which novel im talking about?
That parrot is annoying.
isn't that Lord Fifth?
I figured that’s who he meant. Maybe there’s another one.
Lord Third is the Jelly. Ultimate Vexation.................
The meat jelly that starts taking after the parrot or something? It’s been a while.
yes. idk if he starts talking after the parrot or before but yeah.
they keep annoying each other and fight all the time. the jelly is lord third cause he can only count up to 3
Jon Pertwee?
no. idk who that is lol.
im talking about Ultimate Vexation from <I Shall Seal The heavens>. It's a translated novel but it fits here right?
