Read all her books and caught up on the ongoing. I love the body/psychological horror, the existential ideation, and on a more superficial level the fem-mc. Wondering what other things people who liked these are reading.
Truncated unordered list of other stories I've enjoyed a lot: A Practical Guide to Sorcery, Mother of Learning, A Practical Guide to Evil, Worm, Super Powereds, Brainpunch, Pale Lights, Cosmosis, The Years of the Apocalypse, Surviving the Succession, Super Supportive, HP and the Methods of Rationality, The Will of the Many, Bobiverse, Worth the Candle, Ender's Game
From what I've seen but haven't personally read the author Hungry who wrote stories like Necroepilogus and Katalepsis explored fairly similar themes.
I feel like my own work also falls into the category of what you're looking for (FMC with a tinge of psychological horror) in my story Wanderer of Dust
Thanks! Your story's blurb does look interesting!
Probably the closest other author's work I've read is the Knights of Eternity series (finished), which involves MC being isekaid as a powerful and feared member of a shifter species.
Other series which have at least a few things in common:
Kitty Cat Kill Sat (finished) and Sublife Crisis (finished on RR) both by Argus - existential / psychological
Armor by CB Titus (single book), Upon Wings of Change (finished), Prophecy Approved Companion (finished) - finding a way to live as something other than human
Draka by AvaritiaBona (ongoing), Princess Tells Her Story (unfinished on FA) - also finding a way to live as something other than human, but with unusual relationships
Thank you!!
This Magical Girl is Mine has less psychological horror(only in that it's hard to match Thundamoo) and more yandere protagonist and it's otherwise got it's own amazing dark twist on the magical girl genre.
A Flower That Bloomed Nowhere is great if you like characters that talk a whole lot, philosophy, a self-hating MC, and like, a really detailed murder mystery. Reading the first while is hard, it took me 10 chapters to start really processing and understanding what was said, it really jumps straight into heavy dialogue.
Scionsong has the dark tone and setting that would be appropriate to one of Thundamoo's works, but less of the body horror/self hate of the MC. Unfortunately unfinished and likely to remain so. It's a hero's journey in the fucked up world more than anything else. Lots of existential threats and horror, but not like, anything hugely personal to the MC.
Nowhere Stars is another good dark Magical Girl story, with, yes, a fucked up world and fucked up MC. No yuri. Also unlikely to be finished (at least any time soon), but its arcs are contained enough that it won't be too unsatisfying if you catch up. The antagonists are magical nightmares which the author gives amazing descriptions to. All of them are vivid and memorable.
Most of the reccs in this thread seem good. I'll give a personal +1 to the Argus books, Armor, and Draka.
If you want something that is denser than most web serials have a look at Sunspot by Yootie, and The Elf Who Would Become a Dragon by ljamberfantasy.
I'm currently loving The Elf Who Would Become A Dragon, by LJ Amber. It's heavy on the psychology and personal tragedy, and scratches a very similar itch for me as Thundamoo's works. It's also very well written.
snowhusky5 in this thread also very kindly mentioned my own series, Draka, which might be for you if you like the idea of a story about a human forced to learn to live as a dragon, with a heavy focus on the psychological side of that. It's stubbed on RR, but the stubbed books are available on Audible and KU.
I have enjoyed The Art of Gold Digging a lot, it explores the identity side of things really well, and I really enjoyed how it balanced comedy and horror. It doesn't shy away from the intensity of it all.
I’ve been reading Sky Pride, and when I ran out of that, Slumrat Rising. Both are very psychological, but more focused on philosophy than the personal psychological struggles present in a lot of Thundamoo’s works.
Btw absolutely amazing reading list you provided, all the stories there that I’ve read are in my top books based on enjoyment.
