Hello, I hope this is allowed as I really like this community! Since becoming a new mum I've realised the absolute lack of in-store shopping options for maternity and nursing clothes in Ireland. I am now on a little mission to try and get retailers to change this. I've made a short survey to collect anonymous data which I will use to send to retailers as a means to get them to fix the gap in the market. So far I've 300 responses but would love this number to better represent the number of mothers in Ireland. If you have the time/willing to fill it out or even share the survey it would be amazing. Thank you! šŸ“ https://forms.gle/XWj7u8NMu5aCWRAE9

  • I'm just shocked that Dunnes don't have a decent maternity optionĀ

All I can find is leggings and they're around €55 blips!

Ended up ordering from h&m and I'll have no idea if they're gonna fit 😢

    Will look at form now!

Dunnes used to have Savida maternity they got rid of it, don't know why!

  • Great idea. Such a shame, H&M and Penney’s had basics in store when I had my other kids years ago. Was so handy to pick up a couple of bits. Small capsule collections would be fab

  • Delighted to see this. I was disgusted to go to a shopping centre recently for maternity clothes and not a single shop had them in store. I’ve only chanced buying one pair of maternity jeans on line. Hopefully this will make them reconsider!

  • I couldn't find a single shop in Liffey Valley that had any maternity clothes! Including the 3 Floor H&M. I'm taller than most Irish women so generally don't buy online as I prefer to try clothes on first. Absolute pain in the tits not being able to do this. Also, because of the January sales/Xmas season, the delivery times were really long. I ended up ordering from Amazon as their customer reviews were the next best thing to trying on, plus their delivery times were unaffected by the time of year.

  • Thanks everyone for comments and filling out the survey! It's baffling to me the lack of in-store options. The body changes SO MUCH during and after pregnancy. It is frustrating that we have to "make do" with online options or clothes that are two sizes too big. I love second hand shopping and am all for it. Only issue is the quality of some maternity/nursing clothes is rather poor so it's hard to get the longevity out of them.

  • Great idea. It’s impossible to even find a pair of maternity tights in shops. H&M have a good selection but take a good 2 weeks to ship, and even though I try to avoid the likes of Shein they have the best selection of maternity clothes.

I’ve gotten a lot of bits from Vinted and that’s been an absolute godsend, but it’s a sad case of affairs that you have to go online to get a pair of fecking knickers! M&S is the only option and tights and underwear are so expensive, I wouldn’t mind normally but not for bits I’m going to be wearing a few months and won’t be selling on second hand!

M&s don't have an in person shop, went in the other day in Dublin and was told it's online only!

You saved me a 40 minute drive in that case! I was sure they had maternity underwear last time I was in their shop in Killarney!

I went to the one in the Jervis center on Wednesday and was told they only have it online 🫣 so annoying

    It’s really frustrating!!

  • Just FYI - I work for a company that sells baby clothes but also was known for its maternity wear before they were pulled from the physical shops… we complained every week for months to the head office, had customers complain, plead our case etc but there’s no budging. It’s very disappointing:(Ā

Thanks for this! It's really frustrating. All we can do is keep trying. šŸ¤žšŸ¼

  • Love ā¤ļø

  • Done! I’m 38w now so bit too late for me, but since I had my son in 2021 there’s now next to no maternity clothes in shop anymore. H&M and new look in Liffey valley used to have a decent section, now completely gone. Thankfully still have some items from that pregnancy and got others online and from Freecycle second hand

  • it's crazy I had a baby before covid and dunnes hm m&s pennys etc all had maternity sections. I couldn't believe there's nothing now I'm guessing it must not have been profitable for them

  • Brilliant thank you! Absolutely ridiculous that there's nowhere in person, there will always be pregnant people so I don't get the rationale of there being no in store maternity wear. I spent over 100 euro on shein out of there being no sizes with other online retailers or the prices being €50 a piece, if that'd have been in person I'd probably have been happy to spend because I can see the item on

  • I get monthly boxes from Le Closet - they have a maternity section and it’s really good. Lots of options and they’re actually nice not typical tent looking things. The maternity leggings and jeans are very good too. It’s €79.99 for the month and it’s really easy, honestly been a lifesaver as you end up spending so much money on maternity clothes just for a few months. They have options to add your height and size in and they’ll only show you items that will fit etc. x

  • Thank you so much for taking the initiative here. At a minimum, baby gear stores should have a maternity clothes section that stocks popular maternity brands. So ridiculous that there is nothing in store.

  • That's true, altho i must say that I had no issues with Halara. Ordered a few dresses, especially their midi casual ones and they are super comfy and i had no issues with anything. But i support this initiative

  • That's a lovely idea! I had to get the entirety of my maternity wardrobe online, mostly Temu since they had the best choices! You end up basically guessing if something will look like on the photos and guessing your size. It's such a pain šŸ™„ and I swear Penney's had maternity tights right up until I got pregnant, the moment my bump got bigger I couldn't find them any more! Ones off Temu were awful for the chafing and sliding off 😭Ā
