I threw the body of the vase, and then using one of my Diamond Core handle-pulling tools, cut the snake shapes from a block of clay and joined them to the vase and each other. I used a small tool to press in the scale shapes. Before bisquing, I covered the body of the vase in Mayco “Black Engobe” and painted the snakes themselves with Mayco Fundamentals underglazes.
After bisque, I layered onto the vase body: 2x coats of Mayco “Emerald”, 2x coats of Mayco “Micro Pearl” and then some small blotches of Amaco “Oatmeal”. Over the snakes, I just did one coat of Amaco’s “Zinc-Free Clear”. Fired through glaze at Cone 6.
