Had a christmas dinner on the 25th, and somehow I’M the only one who gets food poisoning. I’ve been suffering and it’s hard to stay positive. I originally had a fever of almost 102°F, and I haven’t ate anything in almost 48 hours .. I always throw it, and water, back up again. I have a gatorade with me mixed with a hydration packet and I’m praying I don’t throw up yet again so Im not dehydrated. I feel better than I did originally, but i still feel very weak. I just want it over and DONE with!! I can’t even sleep properly because of it. Could really use some encouragement please.. i’ve thrown up six times already, two of which were ALL OVER my bed!!! I’m just so exhausted and I want it to end.

  • Norovirus? Take care. Happy New Year's.

I think I got that too. It’ll be day 3 today, I didn’t throw up day 2 but felt very weak

  • At some point it is easier to just go to ER and get meds and hydration

The ER is an option if it doesn’t end within two-three days. Your body will have all kinds of new issues if you can’t keep water down. Don’t get dehydrated.

  • Sounds more like Norwalk/noro virus to me. Gravol and very small sips of water, hopefully that allows you to sleep better

  • That's Norovirus. Its absolutely the worst stomach bug. Its highly contagious once you start going it keeps going. Everyone needs to stay away from you. Sorry. At least use a separate bathroom and they shouldn't touch anything you've touched. Its practically impossible when it involves kids. Parents usually get it. I hope you feel better soon. It sucks being that sick.

  • Small update:

I’ve thankfully stopped feeling deathly ill after throwing up one more time, managing to sleep for almost 3 hours, and sipping lightly on this gatorade. My stomach has mostly stopped hurting and I feel better. Can’t say the same for my toilet though, it’s still going through a lot haha. I’ve lost around 5-6lbs of water weight, still can’t stomach to eat anything but I’ll wait a bit longer so I don’t risk upsetting my stomach again. I’m hoping the worst of it has passed and it won’t come back. I feel silly for posting this and two hours later I feel a lot better, bad timing I suppose! Just hope i’m not speaking too soon. Thank you all for your advice, encouragement, and well wishes! 😊

No worries. It might have actually helped you get better, putting this out there the way you did. You got a little psychological boost from your community.

  • Freeze ice cubes made of half Gatorade and half water. If not for now, the future. You can go to urgent care and they may get you a prescription for Zofran an anti nausea drug. Good luck!

Why oh why is zofran not just over the counter already?!?!

Reglan is another good option. I’m on it and it suppresses nausea and helps your stomach empty. Prescription only so see what your DR/PA thinks.

  • Hope you feel better soon. Being sick during the holidays sucks. If the vomiting continues, please consider a visit to urgent care.

If you can get any Pedialyte, it's very helpful in your situation.

    💐

  • Please don’t wait to get seen by a doctor if this continues. I came extremely close to dying from dehydration years ago during a bout of stomach virus where I could not stop going diarrhea and vomiting. My husband home from work and found me passed out on our bathroom floor. He brought me to the emergency room and I was extremely weak and delusional. They had a hard time finding a vein because my veins were all collapsed.

Finally, they found a vein and my body sucked up two IV bags in minutes and I literally came back to life.

The hospital tested me for pathogens and they were able to give me anti-nausea medicine and something to help me recover from whatever was making me sick.

I hope you get well soon and stay safe.

  • I’m so incredibly sick too, but mine seems to be the flu. It’s absolutely miserable. I was fine on Christmas Eve and then at 9 PM on Christmas Eve it hit me like a truck. And I’m still feeling my absolute worst now so it’s only getting worse from here. I’ve been throwing up a little bit but not as much as I just feel horribly shitty and congested and bodyaches and 101 fever

  • I hope you feel better soon. Being sick is no fun....

  • If recovery is a guarantee, it’s just waiting it out. Be grateful for that. Very grateful for that. For some people their illness isn’t temporary. Thats enough to kiss the floor over.

  • Sorry, it is no fun at all. The worst if it will be behind you hopefully by tomorrow. You should be able to get water or tea down by then. Try and rest best you can and get electrolytes in even if it is a few tablespoons at a time. Hang in there, tomorrow will be a better day.

  • One day at a time. You will get stronger. Make sure you don't need a doctor. Take care.

  • You've got this.

Take water in slow small sips. Are you able to boil water for tea, broth, chai latte? Hot water helps me when I am nauseated. Or a hot shower plus a heating pad if you have one. Bonus if you have any Benadryl, that always knocks me out 💤💤

    Feel better!

  • This happened to me last year right before Christmas, so I empathize. Keep doing what you're doing, and you will hopefully start feeling better soon. It will pass!

  • There is a horrible stomach bug running rampant that everyone seems to be getting. You might want to get to an urgent care for some meds to stop the vomiting.

You may need some IV fluids since fever and vomiting really dehydrate you. I hope you feel better soon.

  • try pedialyte if you have access to it:)

  • Damn. I hate food poisoning. Wishing you well my friend

  • I agree with others that it might be the Neuro virus. Keep trash bags in the bathroom and if it’s coming out, both ends, throw up in the trash bag while you’re sitting on the toilet seat.

Also wondering if you can get a remote consult with your doctor to see what they have to say?

Sending love. I’ve been there it was miserable. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

  • You should go to the ER fren. I had Salmonella this year, and it was a lot like you’re describing except coming out the other end. Let them take care of you!

  • Even with the added hydration, you run the risk of dehydration. I did the same thing, thinking I would be fine (Norovirus), but I got dehydrated, passed out, woke in intensive care, days later. My kidneys had shut down, complete renal failure. Don't take that chance, it is life altering!

  • Poor thing! I wish you didn't feel so awful. Just remember that you are dealing with the worst of it right now and it will get better.

I'm sending love and hugs your way.

  • Go to ER, dehydration kills

  • Hang in there and just try continually sipping the Gatorade. Those ekectrolytes will help. However if you start getting any kind of arrhythmia (like if your heart is beating fast and doesn’t slow down) then you could be dehydrated enough to need some iv hydration (in which case you should go to urgent care, but generally won’t need an er). Bonus, they may give you something like Phenergan which can take away the nausea. You can even try calling your primary care. Mine once squeezed me in same day so I could get a shot that took away the nausea.

So, I suggest time boxing how long you sit through the symptoms without checking in with a doctor. Because they really can help relieve the symptoms. I know this from personal experience, multiple personal experiences.

That business out of the way, I am so sorry you are dealing with such a nasty bug. I am usually the one in your position. Of everyone in my house and extended family, I’m about 8 times more likely to get the terrible stomach bug.

If feels horrific not only because it well and truly sucks, but also because your gut is where most of your serotonin receptors live, so everything just feels scarier and more awful.

The beautiful part though is that this will pass and when it does you will not clearly remember the misery, you’ll mostly just remember the fact of it, it’s very mood- congruent. And the peace your body eventually feels will be amazing.

  • Not medical advice, but children’s liquid Benadryl helped me. Good luck.

  • May I share my own history with norovirus (and food poisoning)? In my own shitty experience, Norovirus is certainly like what you described. Food poisoning is just another horrible variant on the experience. Different specific causes, but same symptoms.

One minute you’re fine, then the next you think something is a bit off, then suddenly there’s this weird feeling of impending of doom, then there’s alarm bells ringing in your head because everything is for sure off and in a second, everything in you is forcefully being ejected from you at both ends at the same time and you’ve got the physical stamina of a wet Kleenex with about the same durability. Standing up and staying conscious become almost insurmountable tasks.

Food poisoning worked much the same way—your body is literally losing its shit trying to speed bulk dump everything toxic in it by any means necessary. It’s that weird experience of behind afraid you’re going to die from this on the first day to hoping you’d die from this on the second day.

I remember holding the bathroom trash can on my lap to puke in while I sat on the toilet having crippling projectile diarrhea with norovirus. I was fervently wishing I wouldn’t pass out there and be later discovered on the floor, unconscious in a mass puddle of my own vomit and disease bearing liquid shit. I also remember at some point later trying to stand up and looking at a corner in the ceiling and watching it mysteriously disappear and then waking up on the bathroom floor, too dizzy and tired to stand. When I finally left the bathroom I did it crawling, I was so weak. Man, that fucking sucked.

Once it’s gotten to a point where your body’s finally gone over the top on eliminating the worst of whatever it was —salmonella, norovirus, etc.—it’s a bit easier to believe you’re going to live. So much “ WTF was THAT?” after the worst of it passed.

Anyway, that was my story of shared intestinal violence and esophageal terror, all meant to let you know you’re not alone and while you may not know me personally, you have every bit of my sympathy and empathy.

Glad you’re finally getting better, you poor thing. I hope you go extra-easy on yourself and your digestive tract, sleep all you can and take comfort in the fact that you made it. Every hour that passes is another hour your immune system is coming back to life.

  • Hope you feel better soon.

  • Oh quit being a big baby 🤪
