I’m thinking about either giving the pokemon in my game a new signature move, or just make an entirely new list of custom moves, but idk which would feel better for a fan game. Has anyone explored custom moves in their fan game?
I've got loads of custom moves (partly because I've added the music type) in my current project. None have dedicated animations though. And none have new function codes yet. It's quite easy to copy an existing move and change it up. I've got a copy of Flying press called Whilstle Wind, it made it special, retyped it to music but kept that flying type damage function code.
What I decided to do in my own fangame is keep all the vanilla moves untouched, while also adding custom moves that I've split into two categories.
Any custom moves that can be learned naturally have to be exclusive to custom pokemon/forms I've created for my fangame. And any custom moves that can be learned by vanilla pokemon, ones I haven't created myself or made custom forms of, can only be learned through TMs or Move Tutors.
This way, I can make my fangame fit with general pokemon lore. Why doesn't your pokemon learn this move in the vanilla games? Well, either you can't obtain the form of the pokemon capable of learning that move, or your pokemon actually can learn it, but you never managed to obtain the TM.
