Hey, so Im new to game making in general, but am trying to learn cuz I would love to make a game on pokemon studio. However I have some questions, sorry if they're dumb:

  1. Is rpg maker xp necessary for maps or can you just use tiled?

  2. When I enter pokemon studio theres already a demo programmed in the project, how do I get rid of that to start my own game

  3. Do you set up the starting point of the game using zones and how because I searched online and cant find where?

Even if im new and still learning so I wont be able to jump directly into making the game, I would still love to have these questions answered to start being more aware of how it works.

    1. RPG Maker XP is currently necessary for eventing, but you should only be using Tiled for map-making. Studio 3.0 is set to release in 2026 and RPG Maker will be completely removed as a dependency, so all data management and eventing will be handled in Studio. That is why Tiled has completely replaced RPG Maker for mapping.

    2. If you've never made a game before, I don't recommend removing the demo from the project. There's a ton of useful information in there that you'll use for reference as you're building your first game, and deleting the project files in RPG Maker might break your project in a way that you don't know how to easily fix if you don't have foundational knowledge on how things work. You just need to set the entry point to your project in RPG Maker to a map that you've created instead.

    3. I haven't watched this series in a minute, but I'm pretty sure one of the early episodes explains how to change the entry point to your game. Pokemon Studio Tutorial Series

Ok, so I currently need to buy rpg maker xp right? Cuz ill just probably wait until studio 3.0 is released

RPG Maker XP does go on sale a lot, though, including right now, where it's 90% off, but depending on when in 2026 Studio 3.0 is released, it might not be worthwhile to buy.

Completely agree with this. Plus, having access to RPG Maker XP opens you up to Essentials and general RPG development too, and given that it's like ~$20-25 at its most expensive, it's not too big of a financial commitment no matter when you buy.
