I’ve got every Vivillon except those two 😞 Everytime I find somebody from those two regions in this thread their friendlists are already full. Guess you just have to be lucky to stumble upon the right post at the right time and be fast with your invite?

Edit: And here I thought it was impossible... Not even 5 hours has passed since I made this post and I already got both my Sandstorm and Tundra Vivillons!! I'm amazed! :D A big THANK YOU to all who has helped me out, both in me getting them and giving me advice! And as a bonus I got more folks in my friendlist which I too appreciate!

I'll leave the post in case it can help other people to find information or get in touch with Sandstorm or Tundra players, just like I needed.

  • I got lucky and had preexisting friends in Israel and Bahrain when they debuted vivillon. Maybe try looking for someone with ties to the military, since they're more likely to be in the Sandstorm region than your average person.

    Did not work for me. It is like there are few people playing in the Sandstorm region and they all have 500+ friends. I got added, made a few friends that way, but nobody from Sandstorm

  • I posted something similar last week and the mod bot directed me to r/VivillonCollectors . I just keep checking the master region threads and try my luck. I have at least one postcard from every region now, though. Go deep into some of the past threads - the worst that can happen is that the person’s list is full or they decline 🤷‍♀️

  • So I searched city names specifically for the areas I needed, and found a few from even years back. I sent a random nice, civil request, asking to friend me, and it worked enough to get one person from Lebanon who sent me three gifts, his actual post on Reddit was over three years ago, and he was ASKING FOR FRIENDS! He's still playing.

    I also went to the Facebook group, and just basically begged for and Icy Snow, and I got four friends from that area. So it did work.

  • I weirdly end up with a lot of Tundra friends. My first shiny happened to be a Tundra lol I think it's just getting lucky with when you post tbh, because most Tundra players are the Nordics, which fits in with my time zone, but might not for yours.

    Sandstorm is incredibly frustrating. I got it completed eventually, but it took a long while. By chance, I also happened to add someone from Qatar for a raid, but they never sent any gifts, so some players can also be stingy.

  • I hear you. I have literally every Vivillon including Tundra, minus one last, final gift to make it three and over.

    Literally one last interaction.

    I think my Tundra hero that got me to the 2/3 gifts was on vacation and they stopped interacting after that. I'm sure eventually I'll find another one of these days, but it's tough.

  • It’s probably waaaay too late now, but when Vivillon first came out, I searched really old (like 2020 and earlier) reddit pogo friends posts searching for city names in certain areas. These posts would have been from back before Vivillon was a thing and I had to hope they were still an active player but not an active Redditor where they were still posting for more friends. For Tundra I remember I found players from Bergen Norway (in addition to Iceland). For Samdstorm I ended up with exactly enough to make one scatterbug, no more, no less. In the nearly 3 years since then, I have not been sent a single Sandstorm gift.

    Makes you kinda wonder why they made certain regions so small and few? I mean I don’t know exactly how far and wide the Sandstorm region spreads, but there only being one single area with that region is questionable…

    I'm okay with the different regions not having exactly the same sized playerbases, but it's frankly ridiculous that the entire Sandstorm region has tens of thousands of active players at MOST (only a fraction of which would want to engage with the postcard system) and the Modern (US East) and Elegant (all of Japan except Hokkaido) have MILLIONS of active players. It's just such a stupid decision, and they could have easily made e.g. the American desert Southwest "Sandstorm" as not all regions are contiguous in any way (e.g. Sunshine including Central America and Northern Australia...)

    It's simply maddening that they chose to do something they knew would be impossible.

    Maybe they kind of realize how stupid it is because... IMO of late they seem to be spiking the pool of Route reward postcards with more rare regions instead of just giving me a postcard from New York City or Japan every time, but I don't think I've ever seen a Sandstorm card there. I wish they'd just spike it even harder and have it rotate through every vivillion pattern intentionally. They could even advertise it and highlight different regions in timed research or something. I dunno.

    I hope they overhaul this system because while the intention is good, "10,000 americans and 10,000 japanese people try to track down the information of 1 omani" is actually an unhinged system for any game achievement!

    Yeah, after looking into it more, the Sandstorm region appears to be a respectable size on the map, but if you actually look at where Pokemon Go is available for download, you can only play it in a tiny portion of the "Sandstorm" area:

    • A relatively unpopulated area of Egypt including Aswan
    • Israel
    • Jordan
    • Lebanon
    • Bahrain
    • Kuwait
    • Qatar
    • United Arab Emirates
    • Oman

    As of 2024, the game is playable in Saudi Arabia as well, but as you can imagine, it does not have the largest playerbase there, but it is interesting as it does seem to be growing since it's 'new'.

    I never had success with Reddit pokemongofriends or vivillioncollectors subreddits, or any trainer code adds with Sandstorm. I think you have to find a different way to get in contact with people, e.g. from using a remote raiding app to join a raid hosted in one of those locations and hope that some people will allow friend adds. The problem is that anyone from these locations who has posted their trainer code is usually already swamped with friend requests.

  • There are a couple websites where you can share friend codes with players around the world. That’s where I’ve found the rare vivillions I needed. I think people who post on this sub get overwhelmed but the websites are largely untapped.

    Tbh for Sandstorm your best bet might be finding someone you know, or a friend of a friend, who travels to Dubai regularly. Or even just once. The playerbase in the Middle East is just too small to actually send postcards to the rest of the world.

    For Polar I was successful by just refreshing some of the trainer code websites and adding people who had just posted less than 10 minutes ago. Make sure you have some target timezones in mind (for the upper nordics and hokkaido).

    I’ve tried such sites with no luck in getting approved friend requests. They might simply have too many and some are at the limit. I wish Pokemon Go would reevaluate some of the locations and expand them to other places in the world!
