So if you are using Brave Browser to watch youtube without any ads, you might have encountered this error called "Ad blocker violate Youtube's Terms of Service"
An easy fix is to just add a "." at the end of the ".com"
For example, if your YouTube link is youtube.com/x, just add youtube.com./x it will redirect and there won't be any ads.
Works for me, so i hope it works for you too.

Firefox + uBlock Origin.
And while you're at it,
SponsorBlock for Youtube.
Clickbait Remover for Youtube, or DeArrow ($1, or free after you wait 12hrs)
Return YouTube Dislike
DeArrow is a little bit better than clickbait remover.
It's made by the same group who made sponsor block and it allows people to submit titles and you can tweak it in certain ways
Thanks! Testing it out now :)
Yeah I'd never heard of this, just bought it! Thanks TF!
Quick edit: Holy shit this is actually great! I have ADHD and scrolling down my feed feels waaaay less chaotic now. No more cringe ass titles like "THIS changed EVERYTHING!" Motherfucker you made a chicken wrap, not a cure for cancer
I've been using it for years through ReVanced. Really great for chaos reduction, and I end up watching videos I would otherwise avoid because of their thumbnail and/or title.
💀
Didn't know I could use it in ReVanced. Thanks!
However, it seems like I can only use dearrow to change thumbnails (I can choose to use dearrow in alternative thumbnails settings, but I don't have the "activate dearrow" toggle, something I've seen in some screenshots). How do you make it so it changes titles too?
For me, clickbait titles are more of a problem than clickbait thumbnails.
Edit: in ReVanced Manager (1.25.1), I only see the "Alternative Thumbnails" patch but nothing about titles (and there's no mention of dearrow either). Maybe I should select another yt version ? I had chosen the recommended one (20.14.43). Thanks in advance
Unfortunately, the titles were only in an old experimental patch. There's still an issue for it open on GitHub, but they have issues with changing titles after the component has been created.
It's only thumbnails now, I miss those titles... But I've gotten pretty good at figuring out the actual topic with the alternative thumbnails and clickbait, so it's still useful to me. But those titles were the best part
Ah, too bad. Thanks for the answer. Hope they'll implement it in the future.
Can I has a bite of ya chicken wrap ?
I lost it reading this. Thanks for making me audibly laugh.
The unexpected Reddit laughs are the best! Hope all's well matey
I'm not sure I have ADHD but honestly my youtube is already SO tweaked I don't even need stuff like DeArrow anymore lmao (but I'm still addicted to it unfortunately)
It's so amazing. I think DeArrow > Sponsorblock for the same reasons!
Five-star comment of the year, folks.
Is your pfp a blend of that one guy and some other also vaguely recognizable guy?
Big fan of DeArrow and I think it’s a solo dev unless mistaken
They need to get started on a AI generated video blocker if they haven't already. And I'll actually pay for that one.
damn DeArrow sounds brilliant. So much clickbait on youtube nowadays
I mean, you're not wrong. But at what point is a random frame (which could be the back of someone's head) more useful than clickbait? Both suck.
The return YouTube dislikes doesn't seem to be working for me, on forefox
Well there’s your problem, you need to be using Firefox, not forefox
Coool
GOAT comment. Thank you!
Am I the only who likes to see the thumbnail even though I hate clickbaits? Sure clickbaits and clickbaity titles are bad but sometimes I find it interesting to see the thumbnail and the odd titles after I watch the video or even before watching the video.
With dearrow there is a button next to the video title with which you can toggle between the original title&thumbnail and the one provided by dearrow.
That's cool then
I like seeing the thumbnail specifically because it makes it easier to identify clickbait. If there's a ridiculous title/thumbnail, I just move on.
These extensions do have the issue of using mostly or entirely crowd sourced data, which on one hand is normally pretty good, and it’s free. The problem is that the people who submit that data are not always good at it.
With DeArrow, sometimes the “non-clickbait” title has removed all substance, and misses the point of the video altogether. I get this issue on Steve Mould videos quite a lot, where on my computer or TV the video title seems totally boring, but on my phone, without DeArrow, I can actually see WHY the video exists.
I have a similar issue with sponsor block where any stray mention of a product, or other video, gets flagged. On my computer and phone I can tune that more, but SmartTube on my TV doesn’t let me set a minimum skip duration.
If you're not using a YouTube account I'd also recommend Blocktube (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/android/addon/blocktube/) to block channels you don't want in your feed.
Edit: not sure if it's also useful with an account cause usually I don't use one.
Haven't tried that one specifically but have tried YTBlock which lets you block videos (and even comments) based on stuff like keywords. I use it to block members only videos.
I suggest SponsorBlock, this is how I open youtube https://ibb.co/jCFbXqj - no distractors.
I don't understand. Even if you don't log in, YouTube sets a cookie that follows you around, so, every time you go to the front page the recommended videos will probably still suit your taste. How often do you see channels you want to block?
I have all of these, but I still get the "experiencing interruptions" bit when it's trying to load advertisements. Wonder if there's just no workaround for that after all this time.
No Translation
There used to be another essential plugin called "Channel Blocker" that would remove any videos from the channels you marked from your feed forever. Sadly, it broke a few months ago and I haven't found a replacement yet.
With ublock only truly working on Firefox there's not realy any point using brave
uBlock Origin Lite is supposed to work in Chromium browsers, but I haven't tested as I use Premium
The definite specs for having a normal viewing experience on YouTube, before it outright bans browsers that have ad block on default. You'd be needing to rewrite the entire youtube code and remove ad command at that point
Can sponser block work for opera gx and edge?
I believe so. https://sponsor.ajay.app/
This is the way
I use duck duck go and the duck player on iOS
Also youtube classic
Bypass Paywalls Clean
The day that this ceases to work is the day that I stop using Youtube.
I would also add Anti Translate and Row Fixer
Return YouTube Dislike is useless, the results are extremely skewed and they're guesses at best.
Team Firefox + uBlock
+ DeArrow as discussed above to also get rid of dumb ass thumbnails
Or if you wanna financially mess with Ads use AdNauseam which is build on uBlock! :)
Or better ditch Brave, move to firefox+Ublock orgin. Just a suggestion
exactly
Personally, I use Firefox on my laptop and Brave on my phone, where I can’t install all the needed extensions for Firefox.
If you’re using an iPhone this is the way
You can install all extensions afaik, just download the xpi (from the add-ons store) and install it after enabling developer settings.
Plus you get sync between mobile and desktop
Orion is a browser in ios that supports both chrome and firefox extensions. I definitely suggest it
or better yet, use both. For when one fails to open a site for some reason
i use ungoogled chromium as alternative browser. just incase
Yup
better yet. ditch firefox + ubo and use brave
I've had issues with Youtube on firefox that don't happen on chromium based browsers, both before and after I got premium many years ago.
I've been using edge + ublock for ages. Never had any problem
The YouTube app on TV is the worst, and I didn't find any solution for it.
SmartTube can be side loaded on a number of platforms and it tends to stay well ahead of Google's attempts to block adblock. You can download it via a browser on the TV, install from a flash drive, or use Downloader to get the package from the repo if you can't otherwise get 3rd party APKs to the OS. If your TV isn't running Android, I think it's available on some of the other TV OSes, and it can easily run from a cheap fire stick, which is likely the simplest option if your TV isn't supported.
The author's key was leaked last week, so be sure to download the newest release from GitHub if you're going to give it a shot. It is totally worth the few minutes it takes to set up, so much so that I hadn't noticed how miserable it is to use YouTube without this (or fully loaded Firefox).
SmartTube
Downloader
The downloader code for smarttube is 28544
Anyone have a solution for Apple TV?
Nope, sorry, I have no experience with Apple hardware newer than the original iMac. If you can side load software, it's might be possible, but I was under the impression the Apple TV was locked down without jailbreaking it.
is this something someone would use instead of youtube or would it work in the background? I would love to set something like this up and run it in the background so others in my house can get rid of ads without even noticing.
It's used instead of. They will notice because the UI is different but it's so absolutely worth it to have no ads, it feels like magic nowadays.
It really is like magic. Trying to use YouTube on a TV without it is absolutely miserable.
Yes, it's turbo cancer, i've resorted to just casting my desktop to the Tv and watching youtube with adblockers and all the other plugins like sponsorblock. Works like a charm
Thank you!
SmartTube is an Android TV/Amazon Fire/TV YouTube clone without ads, it's literally just YouTube with the bullshit removed, like if you were running all the typical plugins in a desktop browser or had a paid account. You replace the YouTube app with SmartTube and login through it instead. It removes all ads, including sponsor plugs, and features loads of configuration options so you can customize it's behaviour. If you wish, it can also hide shorts from the recommendations and search results.
It's safe to use and does not give the developer any access to your account.
Thank you for that explanation. Would this be something that would update automatically or do I need to keep tabs on it and update it periodically?
There is a built in update function. At the top of the left hand sidebar menu, the first option will become "Update" whenever there is a new release, and the next screen tells you what the update includes. I think it takes 3 button presses to complete and usually finishes in 5 seconds on my Nvidia Shield TV. YouTube periodically updates their backend to break these tools, so you generally want to keep up to date to avoid streaming errors. It is easier than clicking away from a single YouTube ad.
Firefox + uBlock Origin + DeArrow on PCs
ReVanced for phones
SmartTube for TVs.
It's genuinely shocking how bad the default YouTube experience is once you get used to these community workarounds.
Awesome! Thanks for the info Sailor!!
So I tried to use it but it appears that you can't install or use sideloading on a Vizio tv so that sucks.
I've got an older Vizio TV as well and you definitely can't install any third party software. I think there is a version for Samsung TVs, and then Sony and Hisense should work as well since they run Android. If the TV has Chromecast, I think you can get around it not working on the native OS.
For my Vizio set, I use an Nvidia shield, which is fantastic but quite expensive. Smartube will run on an Amazon fire stick, which is likely the cheapest option, but there are also loads of cheap generic android TV boxes which could work. The really cheap ones often run a tablet version of Android (or at least they did when I bought one), in which case you might end up needing to run ReVanced instead of SmartTube, which last I checked was not optimized for TV layout.
Yeah my partner says they dont care whether or not they have the adds but then I watch it with them and I feel like I'm in the 2000s again. They like using the apps on the tv and such but my eventual goal is to be completely self sufficient and not be on any streaming services whatsoever so that would render the apps on the tv useless.
Guess I'm just gunna have to find a solution that does both.
I'll check it
TizenTube Cobalt is better than SmartTube imo.
smartTube
There was NoTubeTV but not sure if it still works.
Switch to Firefox, install Ublock Origin. Problem solved.
Connecting to Albania via a VPN removes all adds. There are several other countries too which does not let YT monetize.
Surprised yt doesn't just block itself in those countries then
it will support ads eventually, so might as well already build a base of fans in there
Easy fix is to not use a chrome based browser.
If you have VPN, switch to Albania. This also works very well.
better to switch to europe as its illegal to track data here that leads them to being able to detect adblock use
Albania is in europe?
[deleted]
Europe and the European Union is not the same thing.
GDPR is for the European Union (EU)
Albania is still part of the continent Europe....
Its not. I live in europe and it can detect adblock
Addblock exist.
Youtube does surprise pikachu face and updates its detection software.
Youtube demands you don't use addblockers.
Addblocker updates.
Addblocker exist.
Rince and repeat the lines above and you have the circle of youtube vs addblockers. Just wait for the addblock to update or try some other addblocks cause youtube detection when it updates it target SOME addblocks but not every single one out there which may still pass under its detection.
*ad, not add
Thank you kind person
Ublock origin work great
"ads violate youtube's tos"
don't care.
Use u block origin
Never run into this error. Have you tried updating the browser?
switch to firefox and use Ublock Origin extension
Ive NEVER gotten this error on Firefox
Why literally the entire population of Earth is not using firefox and ublock is one of humanity's most baffling mysteries I don't think I will ever truly comprehend.
because firefox is hot garbage
Have you used literally any other browser? Firefox is by far best in class these days by basically every metric that matters.
i have used chrome, edge, firefox, brave, and zen. and still brave is the best of them
Brave could be the next best thing, but it's got a bunch of extra built-in things that I don't want.
you can disable anything with group policy. im using it with brave
I mean that's nice. Firefox is exactly what I want out of the box though. I used to use Vivaldi because it had such a feature-rich environment, but at the end of the day I really just want a dead simple browser that browses, does nothing else and is super fucking fast.
certainly not firefox. in my usage i found any chromium browser to be faster than firefox. especially on google sites like google earth or youtube.
Well I'm not saying you're wrong but that absolutely has not been my experience. I would imagine it might be possible that differences in our computer could cause these differences in performance. I really have zero problems with Firefox. Assuming my internet is working correctly, everything loads basically instantly and the browser starts up faster than every other browser I've tried. That was my biggest problem with Vivaldi. I know it sounds silly but it took like 3 seconds to open where his Firefox is literally instant.
brave is instant too
Firefox
Use Firefox with uBlock and it gets rid of this pesky popup. Seriously, stop using Chrome (Brave included).
I don't get this because I use a firefox browser lol.
Or just not use Brave? Firefox with ublock is significantly better in every way.
This hasn't happened to me, but that's mainly because I stopped using YouTube on Brave. The reason being that videos that I would be listening to would pause at irregular intervals. Very annoying especially when I'm occupied with other tasks.
If you know DNS, you know this makes 0 sense and it’s the exact same domain name…
How does it work???
reload
People are saying Firefox but any other non-chromium based browser will work just as well (which Brave isn't)
just use Firefox and ublock origin. I've only rarely encountered something like this, and when i did, it wasn't there for long.
I just use AdBlock as a chrome extension and I just re enable it and theres usually like 2-3 times I have to fight with the browser but by usually the third time of reloading the window and enabling the adblock it will just block then no problem
Brave shares your data, use Firefox and uBlock Origin.
Firefox
Buy YouTube Premium . Ahahaha Just kidding... Use brave
hitting f5 works for me
Alt F4 works too
long press of the machine's power button has a spectacular effect on the browser's power, too
if you are on linux
sudo rm -rf /--no-preserve-rootfor added fireworksBeen using brave for a long time. I've never seen this. I've heard it gets fixed pretty quickly.
Plan A: Firefox + UBlock Origin.
Plan B: YT-DLP.
fire fox
Brave browser works for me to stop all ads
Librewolf
Brave works fine with blocking YouTube adds
Wtf
Why would adding the root domain fix this?
thankfully ublock is still blocking ads on chrome for me
While you are lucky, you really should consider moving on from Chrome.
this pops up very rarely when i use brave, but often just needs closing and opening or not even that just wait or view in incognito for a few mins then its gone
switch account or log out.
log in again tomorrow. it fixed it for me 100% of the time!
of course, Firefox + ublock as mentioned!
have fun, happy holidays
Ublock + change settings to "aggresively adblock"
This should alone continue your ad-free experince without much struggles.
Vpn to Albania
Or you could just use youtube revanced
They always try this once a year, then it's back to normal.
Origin Lite for chrome still blocks YouTube ads for me.
This has nothing to do with an offline activation method. I don’t know why reddit is warning me about this.
Another day, another YouTube ad post.
i use PotPlayer to watch youtube. No AD, can add videos to a 'play next' without premium, buffer videos, watch 5.1 content on PC (only tvs and cellphone can normaly watch those), allow the video to be payed up to 12x and can check on realtime the bitrate the video is encoded and more.. it will grab youtube links with a addon and play directly on the player
i am currently using youtube in brave and it does not shows me this maybe related to some setting or geographical... try to delete full history and then try again
or use revanced on a android emulator like android studio itself
for me when i refresh the youtube page 2 times it gets rid of the blocker somehow
This workaround is nonsense? How would using a non-canonical URL fix it if the browser is just going to immediately correct it? This is just equivalent to refreshing the page.
Calling it an error is the funniest thing I’ve heard today
I just downloaded a browser extension and it works perfectly fine
I switched over to Firefox just so I could keep using UBlock
I don't have an ad blocker for youtube, but I use a quick page back then page forward (mouse or keyboard) and it lets me skip the opening things that show on videos but that I can't mention because of an auto mod that warned me not to say a word that sounds like adds.
opera gx + Ublock origin worked for me :)
Just use brave
For Chromium-based/Chrome use Ublock lite at optimized setting worked for me since the full Ublock stopped working
Ublock origin still works on chrome. Just increase how much it filters to max. Solved
what version of brave u have? 1.85.116 is working fine here
I've found that linking to the root domain can cause problems on some websites.
I use adguard and works fine for YouTube
Easy fix is to not use YT.
A vpn using albanian IP
Enjoy
Crazy how ad blocker "violates terms of service" but they have never deleted my account for doing it...
Most fun about this whole ad blocker war is that even if google wins a competitor will pop up for shear demand. The people win anyway.
If you still want to use brave instead of firefox, use ublock origin lite instead of ublock origin. Atleast this solved it for me.
Update UBlock
(for Brave)Just deactivate the ads blocker and activate it again, it will work, or just play with the options in the same little window of the add blocker of Brave, with me it always works
Use the Brave browser, no ads on YT and Twitch
Brave browser
If your not on firefox then use pie adblock
BRAVE BROWSER!!!! i cannot reccomend this enough!!!
Easier fix would be to stop using Brave.
Ew, ditch brave.
I Use AdBlock by GetAdBlock and have never had this issue. you Could always Use yt-dlp.
Buying YouTube premium 🤓☝️👨⚖️💰
Is the brave browser trash?
Firefox+UBlock and have not had this show up ever since switching from Chrome
